Star Wars Original Trilogy on DVD
I know it's not out yet, but my father just came to visit and brought it to me. They're the Special Editions, Widescreen, region 1, apparently made in Asia somewhere. He got them on eBay.
They have English, Chinese, Malay, and Thai subtitles. The English is not anywhere near a word for word translation and character's names are all capitalized, like OBI WAN KENOBI. The special features are just the trailer for the Special Edition. There are scene selections, and interactive menus. Here's the thing. I know these are unauthorized, but the audio, video, and package details are too good to have come from a Hong Kong chopshop, even though the actual art is just obviously color-copied poster art. It has "for distribution only in the United States" on the package artwork. The video itself may have been ripped from a Laser Disc, but I don't know if the trilogy ever came out on Laser Disc. Here are some pictures of them. Has anybody else seen these? http://www.boomspeed.com/mikeychalupa/sw1.jpg http://www.boomspeed.com/mikeychalupa/sw2.jpg -Mikey |
there are all sorts of things you can get in Asia that you can't get here.

Yeah you can get those online, i wouldnt buy pirate copies though.

yeah, these were ripped from a laserdisc. I bought them merely because the sound is in dolby digital 5.1 and can't see lucas releasing the real dvds for a while anyway. Only problem with them is that on a standalone dvd player they don't play right. there are shadows and weird freezing on some images. Tried it in my xbox and same result. So having a modded xbox, I thru the dvd in my computer and then played it over the network thru the xbox and it worked! In other words as far as I can tell they work best in a computer dvd player.

Another thing to watch out for is missing subtitles when the aliens speak, ie Jabba's palace in his repartee with Luke.
By the way, the FBI are watching quite a few of the websites that are selling the OT DVD's. It's a bargain though, three of the best movies ever made for something like $20 USD. |
OT DVDs !!!!
Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! |

I know someone who couldn't wait for Lucas and bought these.
He says you can't tell they aren't official release DVD's. |
Han shot first! Now that I got that outta the way if Lucas would quit wasting his time with these terrible prequels then we would already have these on DVD. I'm just glad the Indy Jones series are gonna be out soon.
