I'm looking for a book....
Working in a book store on of the things we get on a regular basis is these kinds of questions:
"There's this book. I don't remember the author or the title but it was about ..." or "There was this book on oprah. It has a blue cover." "Do you have something about people who ..." I thought it might be a good way to put the fine minds of TFP to work by giving a place to present such requests. There is a good chance that someone has read the book you are looking for and remembers the title. That way when you go to the book store you will get something more then the clerk staring at you. I'll start.... A long time ago I read a book about a man who gets dropped into an alternative earth where raccoons have evolved to be the intelligent species. I remember it being a good book with a very frustrating ending. He was starting off on a major quest and it was over. I looked for a sequel and couldn't find one. If anybody remembers this one I would appreciate it. So if you have a book you are looking for or recognize one described jump on in. |

Okay there is a book I started reading but had to give back to a friend before I moved... There is this guy who is a sophomore in college and also a gymnast. He goes to a gas station and ends up meeting this "far-out" guy that works there and this guy starts to teach him to live. The college kid keeps going back but doesn't know why at first.... and thats pretty much when I had to give it back. Please help!

Here's a stumper for ya. Back in my early high school days, long long ago (1985ish) I read a book about a retired superhero. He had blue hair. He had hung up his cape and retired but something (an old arch-enemy maybe? I can't really remember) caused him to pull the old superhero costume off the shelf and come out of retirement. The book was definitely rated R. At one point, hes flexing his powers, flying over his city/town for the first time and he starts looking thru peoples roofs to test out his x-ray vision. He sees a neighbor's babysitter and her boyfriend having sex and flys into a pole or something. Being that I was quite the adolescent at the time, that is one of the only scenes in the book I recall in any detail.
So, does anyone have any clue what this book is or who it was buy? I'd love to get a copy and read it again to see if it is really as good as I remember, but no one so far has been able to tell me what this book is. Any ideas? |
