SOUTH PARK vs. THE SIMPSONS: May the best cartoon win
So herein we find out once and for all which of these two fine contenders will trump the other in the history books.
Try to judge what you feel is the BEST of The Simpsons against the BEST of South Park. It seems unfair to have the current episodes go head to head since many people feel that The Simpsons isn't as consistently good as it once was. My vote would have to go to The Simpsons. It just seems to have more heart than South Park. And since reruns are plentiful it's easy to see how good The Simpsons once was. This is not to say that I don't love South Park. It's just when forced to choose I think The Simpson edges it out IMHO. Please don't list the pros and cons of each without choosing a clear winner. The point of this thread is to pick a winner. You must choose. So go now and choose wisely. |
This is real close, but I have to go with a South Park because I feel it's one of the funniest television episodes ever, if not the funniest.
The one I'm talking about is the Costa Rican Rain Forest episode where the kids are in the singing group G.G.W.K. (Getting Gay With Kids). The whole episode was just hilarious. Overall because of episodes like that, I give South Park the slightest of edge overall, but the Simpsons is right up there. |
South Park is a DAMN FINE t.v show, but unfortunately, it's not a patch on the simpsons.
You should have made this thread into a poll. |
I'd go with South Park, I dont think the Simpsons is that funny, and Homer reminds me of this really annoying guy I know.
The old simpsons were hella funny, but south park is hilarious now.
While South Park is good, nothing even comes close to the Simpsons in it's prime.
Why must there be conflict and hate amongst our animated Television shows? Can't we all just live in harmony? Can't we all just get along?
south park = edgier and more topical
simpsons = classic verdict simpsons by a thread. |
simpsons, but personally I like flintstones more than Simpsons.
Family Guy by far owns both cartoons put together.
If we can trim the Simpsons down to it's lean fighting seasons, it takes South Park to the mat no problem.
South Park has never really had a golden age. Each season is a mixture of episodes that are hilarious and episodes that make a hilarious point, but do so in a less-than hilarous manner. I laugh through both of them, but South park gets (well got) a big advantage for level of difficulty. Anyone can get a laugh with a fat kid jerking off a dog, the Simpsons were a lot more subtle. |
i find myself laughing aloud more often with south park, but the simpsons has like 14 years of laughter to back itself up : )
oh yeah, WTF was with the south park where mr garrison had that gay class assisstant and they put the hamster in his arse... that song was funny as hell
The Simpsons is one of the greatest television shows on television. It caters for everyone, is always funny, subversive and interesting. I love South Park too, one of my favourite shows, but unless it trundles out another 4000 episodes, it cannot come close.
I have to go with the Simpsons here, because in high school I would never miss the daily 5 o clock showing. I guess it's always been my favorite cartoon, so I have to back it up. It sucks in Spanish though.
Ya Family Guy does distroy both shows, but i've got to say South Park, becuase even a very bad episode of south park is amazingly great, the are far more reckless and the Simpson humour can get tiresome eventually. But, if you ever want to relaly laugh, then watch the Family Guy DVD, every episode, in a row, you'll probably die from laughter
South park is the best because of timmy and jimmy. I love the episode where they join the crips.
Invader Zim > All
I think family guy owns all, but, thats just me, of the two, i go w/ south park
Simpsons, if only for the fact that South Park had a whole episode that was about how the Simpsons had already done all the good story lines. When one cartoon pays homage to the other, I consider them to be graciously conceding the contest.
I agree with Derwood. I love South Park, watch it almost everytime it comes on, but before I watched South Park... it was ALL about the Simpsons.
The Simpsons.
There's just something so simple about the Simpsons. I really like South Park, but sometimes it gets old. It's like slapshtick vs. stand up. I'm sorry, but there's only so many dick and fart jokes that I can take. |
The Simpsons win by a landslide. Even though South Park is hilarious and a great show it still can't be The Simpsons in its prime. Its a shame that they've kept The Simpsons on this long though because the majority of the new shows aren't very funny at all, I think they need to just stop it already. I don't think anything can beat the best seasons of The Simpsons, though Family Guy would come close. Love both shows.
The Simpsons. Although South Park has pushed the boundaries, they haven't had the "growth" over time that the Simpsons has. It may just be that Comedy Central won't pay for more episodes per season as Fox will. (Wow, who would think that they would ever here that Fox isn't cheap!)
This was a tough choice, but my vote is for The Simpsons, but just barely.
simpsons, Southpark is great, i love it, but there is still something better than vulgar comedy. But i still love it. Simpsons just have something extra, a wityness to them that i love.
Simpsons is better because sometimes southpark is too over the top
Southpark, I love how the show can be so rude and crude but still have a social/polical message. The fact that it takes 5 days to do the animation for a southpark episode also lets them really keep with with current events.
Comparing Simpsons and South Park is apples and oranges... The humour is on entire ends of the spectrum. It's like Bill Cosby vs. Andrew Dice Clay...
Simpsons beats Southpark overall. Lately Simpsons has been lack lustre compared to its golden perios, but still fine television, while Southpark has been getting edgier, more political and a hell of a lot more funny.
Nevertheless, the Simpsons, even in its less brilliant eras has been laugh out loud and quietly amusing in a more subtle sense for a good ten years. I went through a Southpark hating phase for while when it became more about sick gags for their own sake and madcap scenarios, ie. Cartman's period, anal probing etc. This is very funny for some people, but I really think it sacrificed the more intellectual humour. Now it's going back to a more balanced mix. Anyhow, Simpsons for sure. |
Hard question. I'd have say I watch South Park more, simply because it seems to be staying steadily funny. Maybe it's even getting funnier. SP is a show that I laugh out loud at more than The Simpsons.
Simpsons without a doubt.
South Park is funny, but is kinda tasteless sometimes and the jokes can just fall on their face. South Park is also very "out there", with almost surreal story lines sometimes; Mr Hanky anyone? Whilst the Simpsons is alway, at some level, more "human". It's easy to relate to poor old Homer in his constant struggles with life. I love that show... Mr Mephisto |
The worst of the simpsons is better than the best of south park. No competition.
simpsons definitley, south park lost its novelty after the first season.
South Park, always something new. Always takes an edge. Simpsons a classic, but in my book South Park takes it.
South Park.
I like the simpsons, but it's a bit tame, and the last 2 series weren't as good as others. |
I love both shows but have to give the nod to the Simpsons, which is by far the best show in the history of TV!!
i have to go with south park. because its the funniest tv show and alot of kids and grown ups like it more. besides there some funny parts like " you fat bitch", what did you say? "i got an itch" did anybody see that episode.
how in the hell can you even compare these two?
i mean, south park is ok, but the simpsons cannot be touched Simpsons hands down. |
south parks vulgarity and gross humor wore off on me after a few episodes. ive watched the simpsons consistently for 5 years, and i love it. so im going to have to go with simpsons. topical, witty, and just plain fun to watch.
