I can't wait to see the beginning of the third film, because they left something awesome off of the end of the second film. I won't say what, because it would ruin it for those who haven't read the books. But for those who have, you know how VERY cool it will be to see....something.

As long as they stick to the book. Peter Jackson is quoted that the third movie will be the most true to the book. (except no scouring of the shire... doh!)
But, hey, Sharkey will die somehow, right?

Well, the Scouring of the Shire has only been cut down, last I heard, not completely removed, and plus, there's always the Extended Edition coming out in November of 2004.

all I know is Peter Jackson better win best goddamn director next year at the Oscars. I haven't seen the 3rd film but considering what he has accomplished and how incredible the films are, how bad-ass the 3rd movie is going to be, he better get the recognition he deserves.

I can't wait to see the third movie either. I'm a huge fan of the books and loved the first to movies; however, the third movie is going to have to be freakishly long to cover that whole book and what they left out of the second book.

Not much need to br redundant on my part, amoung the best moveis if not the best I've seen. the was a version of FOTR on cable the other night that had scenes not even the extended DVD has; about an hour of material. You would be suprised how much important stuff was actually cut.

I really hope they don't cut too much of the scouring of the Shire. It's an important part of most epic tales. (Odysseus, his wife, his bow, and his dog?)
I remember reading the books for the first time and loved it. Some thing were cut and I didn't care(Tom Bombadil) but I really hope this is not true!

Actually I heard that they removed the part entirely and they also put Sauromans (sp?) death at an entirely new place in the film...

Other then that, I hear it's great.

The movies are awesome but will someone please back me up:

They should have made The Hobbit into a movie instead of a five-minute intro in the first film.

SMOG!!! Why did they skip The Hobbit?

I really hope that shelob doesn't turn out to look really dumb, but considering the quality of the rest of the CGI in the movies I don't think its a valid concern. And I'll back up docbungle. Reread the hobbit for about the fifth time this spring and its still a great story, deserving of its own movie.

The first movie was and still is astounding, the second however didn't really work for me, sure it was great but not that great. Having read the books years before seeing these films I cannot wait for ROTK as that was my fave of the trilogy. Can't wait to see the Witch-King!

Actually they are making a Hobbit movie. I found a leaked trailer on Kazaa while searching for a ROTK trailer. I'm sure it's still out there, give it a look, it looks really cool.

I should read the book, but this is serious...I have a hard time reading a book about short people.

I'm 6 foot, so it's not like I have a short complex...but I guess I get tired and annoyed at all those short people jibes

That Hobbit trailer was kind of hard to see at the free bit rates. I couldn't even tell if there was any new footage in it or if all the clips were from the LOTR... Still, I'd like to see them find a way to get the Silmarillion on screen - that would kick some major ass!

Don't worry, he's lying.

And as for the Hobbit trailer, F-A-K-E. The rights for the movie are in a muddle, New Line want to make the movie with PJ at the helm but a competitor apparently has rights to making it.

I agree, when people are totally clueless about when something happens in the LOTR movie I just wanna smack 'em upside the head with my heavy one volume edition of The Lord of the Rings and scream "READ THE BOOK!". And yeah, h2g2fan, you're first on my list.

How can someone who made Meet The Feebles go on to do such an amazing version of LOTR ?

Yes, the trailer for The Hobbit, as well as any actual news of its production, is fake. Most of the clips have been taken from the first two PJ films, with particular emphasis on the prologue. I'm not sure whence some of the dragon sequences were stolen, but I am certain someone here must recognize them. The heavy use of The Two Towers remix of Chris Mansell's Requiem for a Dream score, poor editing in general, and crude titles at the end are testaments to the trailer's fradulency.

No scourging because apparently it detracts from the main storyline. What's most unfortunate is that is was never filmed so it won't appear on the Extended Edition of ROTK. Hopefully this is a joke (after all we did see scenes similar to the Scourging in FOTR)

heh. what I really find annoying about the Jackson transition of book-to-film is that while he could make a full tranition (not easily, nor cheaply, nor a short movie - think 6 hours per part), he could have done it. in his cuts, though, he changes the story - for the worse - such as the modified relationship between aragorn and arwen. As such, people that watch the movie before reading the book (some of them) think that the books should be changed to reflect the movie. Others thought that FOTR sucked, because it "ended" the way it did, and gave no thought to the book. Yet others watch the movies, and think that they're knowledgable about everything tolkien, yet they've never heard of the Histories, nor even the Silmarillion. As to what Jackson's done to ROTK, I've heard it's a better transition than TT was (side note: some people were campaigning to change the name of the movie Two Towers, because they thought it referred to the World Trade Center). Shelob and the major fights are in, last I heard. I don't know about the Scouring, but I'd hope that's in the Extended.
