mad max 4
Rumour has it a 4th Mad Max movie is in the works, starring, of course (an aging) Mel Gibson as the Road Warrior. My question is what are our expectations? My second question is what did everyone think of the first 3? I put it to you that the first one was pretty good, the second one was spectacularly good, and the 3rd, Beyond Thunderdome, sucked.

God no, say it ain't so. It's bad enough that they dicked around on indy 4 long enough that they'll have to edit out Harrison Fords cane. Not to mention that Mel Gibson, while still an excellent actor, has lost a lot of his intensity that came with his youth.
I agree with your assesment of the earlier movies, with the qualification that beyond thunderdome surpassed the suck category and went into the 'please let me claw my own eyes so I can shove them in my ears and stop this nonsense' category.

The only thing that could make me puke more than Indy 4 is Mad Max 4. Same reason why I won't watch Terminator 3, aging action heroes should give it up, nobody cares anymore, you're just trying to cash in and even the stupidest moviegoer should be able to see through it.

i'd have to agree that mad max 4 shouldn't happen but it is happening. i guess its mel's way of saying "look, im not a old! Im still hot! Look at me ladies! PLEASE!"
As for Indy 4, I would still go see it because I loved the triology. Looking forward to the DVD set coming out in November! Mad Max and The Road Warrior where excellent. Thunderdome was not good but I love the quote "WHO RUN BARTERTOWN!". That was about it!

Well, at least George Miller is directing again.
I'm pretty much in lockstep with you guys, agreeing that Road Warrior was the best and Tunderdome was the worst, although Thunderdome has grown on me after watching it a few times on DVD. I guess a lot depends on the script. If they write for an older Max and go in unexpected directions, then this could work. If they try to remake The Road Warrior again (like I think they did with Thundersdome) then it will probably suck. I do think that Mel has it in him to do another great job, but PLEASE(!) give in and use your Aussie accent, Mel! (I love the newest release of Mad Max where you have the option of the original Aussie sound track instead of the dreck dubbed American voices. "He is the Night Rider...Remember him when you look at the Night Sky...")

Yes, its been a long time since i saw mad max, i had forgotten that they had dubbed the voices with american accents. What a travesty!!! It was like a cheap kung fu movie. Give the audience a little credit. Still not as bad as thunderdome, though. Hope springs eternal for me, i think mad max 4 is not necessarily doomed, i wanna see what they can do with it.

I also hear that its going to be filmed in the US. I think that is so wrong. The first Mad Max (aka Road Warrior in the US) is a cult classic. I have seen both versions and the undubbed version is so much better. Its kinda funny the see Mel so young in it. There also a number of aussie actors in it that are still around today. I reckon that if they do make #4 its gotta be done in Australia.

Mad Max 4 sounds good.. I read part of the script... Its about Max and his son. It wont be out until 2004 though.
I have the austraillian version of the first Mad Max if your interested... Its fun to watch.. the American version has dubbed over voices because the Austraillan accent is so heavy. |

Its funny, but the aussie accent is not heavy at all. That is the way that we sound. I would find the american accent heavy in it. I guess that you guys are not used to hearing aussie accents that much.

It won't work simply because this series has lost its edge. Max with his son? Sorry, but weren't his wife and child killed in The Road Warrior? Or does he domesticate that little feral boy who doesn't talk? Sure he'll die... of old age most likely. On the other hand it might be more realistic than 61 year old Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones 4 : The Temple of the Inflamed Prostate.

The first two were great, the third had some good moments, but was basicly a bad rehash of the second. I am afrid of what the will do with a fourth movie, but look at the Alien movies: The first was a great suspenseful thriller, the second was an awesome action film, and the third was a total embarassment, but the fourth film managed to restore some credibility to the franchise.
