Children of 80s/Early 90s: Favourite TV Show as Kid?
I know there is a huge array of people on this board, so I thought I'd narrow this one down to just people from my era. No offense to anyone else, you just didn't have as many good TV shows as us. :)
That said, what's you favourite TV show when you were a kid? I recently got my hands on the complete series of Lost Cities of Gold, and forgot how much I watched that show until I recognised heaps of parts from it. Also got some episodes of You Can't Do That On Television a couple months ago. They're so good, but man are the jokes and skits bad. There's also stuff like Ghostbusters, TMNT, Salute Your Shorts.. I could probably go on forever. What were your favourite TV shows as a kid? |
1980's - Transformer, GiJoe, Dragon Warrior, Shogun Miniseries, Three Stooges
1990's - Xmen, King Arther and Bus full of Football Players, Animaniacs, DUCK TALES, Star Trek TNG, Northern Exposure. |
Cartoons: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My friends had a club where each person was a charcter from the show. I ended up being Casey Jones, the guy with the hockey mask. Pathetic. I know. Also Ducktales and old Disney and Bugs Bunny cartoo ns.
Other: A bunch of Nickelodeon stuff. "Hey Dude", "You Can't do that on Television", "Double Dare" and "Salute Your Shorts" come to mind. |
I'd like to throw in the Adventures of Pete and Pete, or is that too recent? Oh yeah, and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.
I loved the randomness of those shows. Made me feel like anything was possible. |
Anything on the Afternoon Cartoon Express. MacGuyver, my mom made me and my brother watch it because she had the hots for Richard Dean Anderson. The A-Team! Muppet Babies. Anyone remember Kid Video? How about Dungeons & Dragons. What about the Pirates of Dark Water? Good shit.
|
I always watch CHiP's. Still do late night on TBS.
|
Anyone watch the Gummi Bears? That song gets stuck in my head every once in a while.
When I was real little I used to watch this show call Today's Special, or something like that. I only remember bits and pieces |
He-Man and transformers were the favorites, Bravestar was pretty cool too.
|
I am embarrassed to admit:
Full house Family Matters Yes, Gummi Bears, GI Joe And a bunch of Nickalodean (sp?) |
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
And: Transformers (to some extent) Duck Tales Rescue Rangers And many more. But those were the most important ones. |
TMNT is a must. transformers was good, especially the movie. G.I Joe. hmm what else...Thundercats and Voltron haven't been mentioned yet? Thats blasphemy people! :D
|
Transformers!
|
AAH! Real Monsters
Clarissa Explains It All He-Man Macross(ROBOTECH!) and some others... |
totally duck tales....wooohoooo. haha
|
TMNT, Duck Tales, Darkwing Duck came out early 90s didn't it? Transformers, G.I. Joe, Pirates of Dark Water (I wish they would finish that) Star Trek TNG, He-Man, I could go on forever.
|
Hong Kong Phooey!
The Amazing Superfriends Krofft Superstars (Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Dr. Shrinker...) Thundar the Barbarian Isis Planet of the Apes (animated) Star Trek (animated) Six Million Dollar Man Bionic Woman all 70s classics... Today's Special... isn't that from TVOntario. If so that would be right up there with readalong and the polka dot door... |
GI Joe
Transformers Star Blazers Voltron (W/ the lions, not the crappy vehicles) Tales from the Dark Side V (loved that show!) |
When I was 4 or so, I'd get up every day at 5 am to watch the game show with the whammy, can't remember it's name though. USA network was showing Space Ghost and Smurfs a lot. Voltron was also another staple. And I'm probably the only one to own up to it, but I also loved Jem :P
|
This is more of a mid 90s thing but, anyone remember that STUPID tv show "Viper". it was kinda like knight rider, but with a crime fighting dodge viper that would transform and shoot missles and do all kinds of crazy stuff. i think it even flew in one episode. haha it was totally rediculous
|
THE
TRANSFORMERS more than meets the eye |
Quote:
No whammy, no whammy, no whammy, STOP! Oh No! It's a whammy! {moonwalks out and steals your money!} HAHAHA! AWESOME! :D |

Let's see.... childhood... childhood....
Thundercats TMNT (who didn't?) Ducktales GI Joe X-men Super Dave! Tiny Toons Darkwing Duck Batman: TAS Bravestar Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers Talespin The old cartoon of the Fantastic Four Oh, I can't remember the name, but there was a cartoon with police in it. And they had special gear, like a motorcycle that turned into a helicopter maybe? And the main villain was this really fat guy (maybe a pig) who was afraid of his mother (might have just been that episode)It's really fuzzy in my head, but I know I woke up early to watch it every Saturday. Oh, and of course, the Mario cartoons! Those totally owned me when I was little. |
Great topic by the way.
|
1. The Mysterious Cities of Gold
Best show ever, three kids and their journey from Spain, through South America to find the one of the lost Seven Cities of Gold. Fantastic series with a great soundtrack too. Brings me goosebumps when I watch my lousy RealAudio downloads. Why the hell don't they make show like this anymore? 2. G.I.Joe Pure good versus pure, though comedic, evil. The mega-violence of this show was the best part too, they could never put this on TV again, well... save for Cartoon Network at 11:30. Plus Baroness was pretty hot too. On the plus side as well, every single thing you saw on the show could be bought, YAY CONSUMERISM! 3. Bell and Sebastian Kid and his freakishly huge dog try to find his gypsy mother while crisscrossing Spain... I think that's what its about, I haven't seen it since I was six, but it weas great then. 4. Duck Tales Great show about how much it rules to be rich, plus lots of great foriegn adventures... not much great foriegn adventure shows these days are there? Ummm... that's it for now |
I don't know.
*green slime rains down on crazybill5280* Oh yeah, I remember You Can't Do that on television, also Double Dare, Fun House on WGN, Family Matters, even ALF. I watched a lot of crap when I was a kid |
Transformers
He-Man Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ghostbusters G.I. Joe And I had the toys to go along with those shows too... Animaniacs and Duck Tales were cool too. |
X-Men and Darkwing Duck.
|
no question, my favorite of all time was Dukes of Hazzard. I still have my Dukes of Hazzard tv dinner tray, Daisy Duke cleavage and all.
and Voltron (lions, not cars :)) was bad ass! So was Tranzor Z, the one with the gaint chic robot that fired boobie missles. I also used to get up at 5AM to catch the multiple GI Joe and Thundercats miniseries. |
The whole tgif lineup, x-men, the darkwing duck lineup thing with tail spins and just the regular ducks, and gi joe. i saw an episode of gi joe recently that was just really really cheesy. but eh, still love it
|
TMNT definately.
Other shows I loved were Ghostbusters, Transformers Generation 2, the A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf |
David and the Gnomes!!!
They don't make shows like they used to... |
Muppet show. Reading rainbow. Smurfs. GI Joe. Transformers. A team.
|
Oh, and Airwolf. Nothing like spending ten minutes seeing them start up the chopper every episode.
|
Theres so many cartoons that bring back fond memories:
Transformers Thundercats Mask Visionaries He-Man Action Force (That what GI Joe was called in Europe) Ulysses 31 Bravestarr... There are too many to list! |
Ghostbusters, He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Thundercats, Transformers, Trap Door.
Cant remember the rest I liked everything! :) |
TNMT, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, Care Bears, most of the stuff that came on Nick, Teddy Ruxpin, Snorks, Ghostbusters, Denver the last Dinosaur, Eureka's Castle, and this one show with these Gnomes.
Ton's more though. |

The best crime fighters ever would have to be the Gummi Bears and The Rescue rangers.
|
so many
Scooby Doo as my favorite for a long time, greatest american hero and bosom buddies were good too |
I didn't see anyone list Saved by the Bell! I mean come on, that show's a classic. Granted after The College Years it really went downhill, but the classic episodes with Zach, Kelly, Jessy, Screech, Slater, Lisa, and Mr. Belding will always be remembered.
|
Wow.. how could I forget Saved by The Bell.. good call.
|
transformers! I used to love that cartoon.
|
M.A.S.K
Transformers TMNT Saved by the Bell Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toward the end of my sat morning days and who could forget Degrassi Junior high (so much better than that Degrassi Next generation crapola they have on now) |
oh man.
Goof Troop Duck Tales Gummi Bears Talespin Chip and Dale Darkwing Duck McGee and Me Ghostbuters GI Joe TMNT King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table (the one about the high school kids. Gwenevere was a hotty, as i recall) And, if anyone can remember, at 2:00 in the afternoon, there was this rad show about a teenager and his kid sister who build these robots and they live in this awesome underground house and they fight the sinister robotics corporation that has taken over the earth...i don't recall the name anymore... my friends and i talked about this awhile ago, there are so many i'm forgetting. oh yeah The old Peter Pan and the Pirates cartoon. God, that ruled. Tim Curry even did the voice of Hook. |
Greatest American Hero
6 Million Dollar Man Land of the Lost Bionic Woman Star Trek (reruns of the late 60s original) And yes, I know it was cheesy but I loved The Amazing Powers of Matthew Starr. |
Quote:
I love tv shows that required '3d shades' |
THUNDERCATS!!!!
Oldschool in the new newschool. Trust me on this. |
Lol, if it came on Nickelodeon I probably watched it.
|
saved by the bell, thundercats, salute your shorts, pete and pete, hey dude, etc.
|
Favourite was the old Transformers, I sure wish they would bring them back.
Some others, He-Man, Sherah:D , thundercats and a bunch of other cartoons i can't really remember the names of. |
Pete and Pete
Saluate your shorts Hey Dude Gummi Bears Snorks Jem My Little Pony She-Ra Strawberry Shortcake Care Bears TMNT Thundercats Fraggle Rock Ducktales Shirt tails I am a cartoon junkie so I'm sure I missed a whole bunch but they will come to me! |

Hey Shay.... I just saw some Pete and Pete on a channel called Noggin.... it was like an all day marathon and it was as good as I remember it!
|

i have seen a lot of auctions on ebay for VCDs (or DVCs or VQX or some kind of initials) of the whole show... every single episode. i might have to invest some day. more shows: hey dude, blossom, step by step, full house, family matters, perfect strangers (balki goes to the gym by my house, i've seen him there. for serious), hey arnold, fifteen, tattooed teenage alien fighters from beverly hills, USA High, zoobilyzoo. oh, and there was this movie my sister and i used to rent on beta max all of the time - only like 30 minutes long, kind of like a kids show. it was called 'in search of the WowWowWibbleWobbleWozzieWoodleWoo.' i am on a continuing quest to find someone else who has seen this. |
McGuyver
the A-team and for animated: Gargoyles Transformers |
fraggle rock?
|
Land of the Lost
Electric Company |
Fraggle Rock (sad but I've got the theme tune on my computer somewhere)
Quantum Leap Dungeons and Dragons - loved this cartoon Dangermouse - He's the greatest! He's fantastic! Wherever there is danger, he'll be there! He's the ace! He's amazing! He's the strongest, he's the quickest, he's the best! Dangermouse! Chorlton and the Wheelies - I'm conviced whoever wrote this must have been on some serious drugs. Did America every get this brilliant programme ? Kung Fu M.A.S.H. |
Man you guys all have cartoons. i liked cartoons but I'd wake up early just to watch shows like Perfect Strangers, Three's Company, Punky Brewster, Mr. Belevdiere, Small Wonder....
Then of course things like Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers etc etc. Poor little limey had no cable as a child so no Nick shows. |
Most Nickelodeon shows and the Disney Afternoon (Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck). Also TMNT and much of Cartoon Network.
|
Lived in Houston area and got Benny Hill on at 10:30PM. Could not let my mom know I was watching it. Occasionally saw boobies and it would be the talk of the day next day in Middle shcool.
Animated/Saturday - Scooby Doo, land of the lost, lost in space, any of the Hanna Barbara (space ghost). Magnum PI, Simon & Simon, Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch, Vegas - never missed an episode. |
I loved the singing and dancing shows like Mickey Mouse Club and Kids incorporated
|
Old School Cartoons
I saw a thread that mentioned "Transformer" in the title, and it got me thinking...
It has been ages since I saw some of my favorite cartoons from when I was a wee lad. I mean, we are talking about classics here: Transformers (not the stupid Go Bot ripoff) Voltron The Mon Chi Chi's (sp?) Hong Kong Fuey I know there are tons more out there... What was your favorite cartoon? |
Fucking He-Man. I remember watching this in my parents room while they were getting ready for work. Man, I can see I am not alone in this one, either.
|
There were tons that I loved, but I've seen some of them again in recent years, and it ruined everything... I used to be the biggest little Voltron geek- I even had my mother make me a Halloween costume and GOD, how I wish I had a picture- but I watched it when it ran again on CN, and was appalled. The memory is what's important, though, and I won't sully it with needless details.
There was also Silverhawks (Like Thundercats! Only in space, with sweet bird-armor!), GI Joe (my cousin and I used to watch it with all our action figures spread out on the floor), and TMNT (ditto, a few years later). I never really got into Transformers... not because I didn't like it, but it used to come on while I was still at school. My sister used to be heavy into Saved by the Bell and Family Matters... I always found somewhere else to be when they were on.:D |

TMNT. If you missed an episode, you'll be worried about the day's playground experience.
|

but i loved the care bears, my little ponies, ghost busters, teenage mutant ninja turtles, gummi bears, fraggle rock, duck tales, chip n' dales.. etc etc. i dont know if anyone knows of this show.. but it had little puppets. it was called under the umbrella tree?? oo i also liked the heathcliff cartoon. and david the gnome. *shrug* i was a priviliged cable kid :P i was also obsessed with full house. and enjoyed saved by the bell as well |
Was no one out there into the Smurfs? Loved that cartoon. Other 80' fav's- Family Ties, The Facts of Life, and of course, The Cosby Show.
|
Transformers
Thundercats Visionaries He-Man Ghostbusters Hulk Hogan's Rockin' Wrestling (I think that's what it was called) Gummi Bears Rescue Rangers Care Bears Teddy Ruxpin Garfield & Friends Tiny Toon Adventures So many more, I just can't remember |
Primetime:
A-Team Dukes of Hazzard Knight Rider Cosby Show Simpsons Cartoons: Smurfs Transformers GI Joe M.A.S.K. Pee Wee's Playhouse Muppet Babies Voltron |
0) Dukes of Hazzard
1) Knight Rider 2) A-Team 3) Black Adder 4) Doctor Who 5) Are you Being Served? many of the others already listed and my favourite by far 6) Benny Hill (when my kindergarten teacher asked what my favourite show was, I told her it was "Benny Hills" - probably not a common thing to hear a 6 year old say for that question) |
EASILY the Transformers. GI Joe was OK but kinda wussy, no one ever died or even got shot.
|
1981-1991
Anime: Spacekeeters (Starzinger http://us.imdb.com/Title?0185655) Sandy Bell (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0294099) Candy, Candy (http://www.imdb.com/Title?0362493) Silver Fang (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0362344) Other childrens stuff: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (had a crush on Shredder) Ghostbusters (had a crush on Peter) Fraggle Rock (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0085017) Duck Tales Dangermouse Gummi Bears Bamse (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0235912) Pippi Longstockings (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0062598) SuperTed (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0085096) Other stuff I watched: MacGyver Parker Lewis Can't Lose Clarissa Explains It All V The greatest movie ever: Gnomes (http://www.imdb.com/Title?0343727) a lot more, but a lot of it is Swedish :) |
Thundercats, TRansformers, M.A.S.K., Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Silverhawks, The A-Team, Knight Rider, Animaniacs, Dungeons & Dragons, Superfriends, Airwolf.
Then a couple of shows that I remember liking a lot when I was little, but can't really remember too much about were Manimal and Spectre-Man (SP?). |
The Real Ghostbusters had my vote. That, and Sledge Hammer.
"Don't thank God, ma'am, thank gun". Over the top violence in an over the top series was my bag. There was also Max Headroom, but I was young enough that it made no sense, but then again I don't think it made sense to most people back then. I watch it now and can appreciate it, though. |
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Inspector Gadget Double Dare GI Joe |
saved by the bell
family matters full house small world power rangers |
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (splinter was the shit)
Duck Tales Gummi Bears GI Joe Muppet Babies ahhh those were the days |
Well... they seems to have all been mentioned before but here is my list..
Duck Tales Knight Rider TMNT A-Team oh and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers |
square one, with mathnet...newton's apple, and pretty much anything on PBS. Yeah, i'm nerd.
then again, i also had a soft spot for Double Dare on Nick. |
Ok, so this is a little past the years mentioned BUT HOW COOL WAS ROCKO'S MODERN LIFE???
And The Popples. Cool show. |
