Children of 80s/Early 90s: Favourite TV Show as Kid?

I know there is a huge array of people on this board, so I thought I'd narrow this one down to just people from my era. No offense to anyone else, you just didn't have as many good TV shows as us. :)

That said, what's you favourite TV show when you were a kid?

I recently got my hands on the complete series of Lost Cities of Gold, and forgot how much I watched that show until I recognised heaps of parts from it.

Also got some episodes of You Can't Do That On Television a couple months ago. They're so good, but man are the jokes and skits bad.

There's also stuff like Ghostbusters, TMNT, Salute Your Shorts.. I could probably go on forever. What were your favourite TV shows as a kid?

Konichiwaneko 07-23-2003 05:51 PM

1980's - Transformer, GiJoe, Dragon Warrior, Shogun Miniseries, Three Stooges

1990's - Xmen, King Arther and Bus full of Football Players, Animaniacs, DUCK TALES, Star Trek TNG, Northern Exposure.

fearofmear 07-23-2003 06:08 PM

Cartoons: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. My friends had a club where each person was a charcter from the show. I ended up being Casey Jones, the guy with the hockey mask. Pathetic. I know. Also Ducktales and old Disney and Bugs Bunny cartoo ns.

Other: A bunch of Nickelodeon stuff. "Hey Dude", "You Can't do that on Television", "Double Dare" and "Salute Your Shorts" come to mind.

leon2345 07-23-2003 06:13 PM

I'd like to throw in the Adventures of Pete and Pete, or is that too recent? Oh yeah, and Parker Lewis Can't Lose.

I loved the randomness of those shows. Made me feel like anything was possible.

Conclamo Ludus 07-23-2003 06:27 PM

Anything on the Afternoon Cartoon Express. MacGuyver, my mom made me and my brother watch it because she had the hots for Richard Dean Anderson. The A-Team! Muppet Babies. Anyone remember Kid Video? How about Dungeons & Dragons. What about the Pirates of Dark Water? Good shit.

amge 07-23-2003 09:58 PM

I always watch CHiP's. Still do late night on TBS.

hambone 07-23-2003 10:02 PM

Anyone watch the Gummi Bears? That song gets stuck in my head every once in a while.

When I was real little I used to watch this show call Today's Special, or something like that. I only remember bits and pieces

Snoogans 07-23-2003 10:03 PM

He-Man and transformers were the favorites, Bravestar was pretty cool too.

Slims 07-23-2003 10:04 PM

I am embarrassed to admit:

Full house

Family Matters

Yes, Gummi Bears,

GI Joe

And a bunch of Nickalodean (sp?)

cookiezzz 07-23-2003 11:39 PM

Charlatan 07-24-2003 12:08 PM

Thundar the Barbarian
Isis
Planet of the Apes (animated)
Star Trek (animated)
Six Million Dollar Man
Bionic Woman

all 70s classics...

Today's Special... isn't that from TVOntario. If so that would be right up there with readalong and the polka dot door...

r2geek 07-24-2003 12:25 PM

GI Joe
Transformers
Star Blazers
Voltron (W/ the lions, not the crappy vehicles)
Tales from the Dark Side
V (loved that show!)

Pellaz 07-24-2003 12:31 PM

When I was 4 or so, I'd get up every day at 5 am to watch the game show with the whammy, can't remember it's name though. USA network was showing Space Ghost and Smurfs a lot. Voltron was also another staple. And I'm probably the only one to own up to it, but I also loved Jem :P

emopwr 07-24-2003 12:36 PM

This is more of a mid 90s thing but, anyone remember that STUPID tv show "Viper". it was kinda like knight rider, but with a crime fighting dodge viper that would transform and shoot missles and do all kinds of crazy stuff. i think it even flew in one episode. haha it was totally rediculous

Mr.Deflok 07-24-2003 12:38 PM

THE
TRANSFORMERS

more than meets the eye

Dude! That's "Press Your Luck!"

No whammy, no whammy, no whammy, STOP!

Oh No! It's a whammy!

{moonwalks out and steals your money!}

HAHAHA! AWESOME! :D

Was it called the Lost Cities of Gold? I remember a show called the Mysterious Cities of Gold. It was an animated show on Nickelodeon with 3 kids trying to find Utopia.

If thats what your talking about, where did you find the complete series? I grew up on that show too and I'd love to get a copy.

Brian Fellows 07-24-2003 07:09 PM

The A-Team

I tried out for that when I was a wee lad. You got paid something like $20 for getting 'Watered' and $50 bucks for getting 'Slimed' and Alanis Morisette was on it, who was just known as pop-star Alanis back in the day.

YES!

Gman 07-24-2003 08:36 PM

Let's see.... childhood... childhood....

Thundercats
TMNT (who didn't?)
Ducktales
GI Joe
X-men
Super Dave!
Tiny Toons
Darkwing Duck
Batman: TAS
Bravestar
Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers
Talespin
The old cartoon of the Fantastic Four

Oh, I can't remember the name, but there was a cartoon with police in it. And they had special gear, like a motorcycle that turned into a helicopter maybe? And the main villain was this really fat guy (maybe a pig) who was afraid of his mother (might have just been that episode)It's really fuzzy in my head, but I know I woke up early to watch it every Saturday.

Oh, and of course, the Mario cartoons! Those totally owned me when I was little.

Gman 07-24-2003 08:38 PM

Great topic by the way.

Megacheese 07-24-2003 08:45 PM

1. The Mysterious Cities of Gold

Best show ever, three kids and their journey from Spain, through South America to find the one of the lost Seven Cities of Gold. Fantastic series with a great soundtrack too. Brings me goosebumps when I watch my lousy RealAudio downloads. Why the hell don't they make show like this anymore?

2. G.I.Joe

Pure good versus pure, though comedic, evil. The mega-violence of this show was the best part too, they could never put this on TV again, well... save for Cartoon Network at 11:30. Plus Baroness was pretty hot too. On the plus side as well, every single thing you saw on the show could be bought, YAY CONSUMERISM!

3. Bell and Sebastian

Kid and his freakishly huge dog try to find his gypsy mother while crisscrossing Spain... I think that's what its about, I haven't seen it since I was six, but it weas great then.

4. Duck Tales

Great show about how much it rules to be rich, plus lots of great foriegn adventures... not much great foriegn adventure shows these days are there?

Ummm... that's it for now

laconic1 07-25-2003 03:53 PM

I don't know.

*green slime rains down on crazybill5280*

Oh yeah, I remember You Can't Do that on television, also Double Dare, Fun House on WGN, Family Matters, even ALF. I watched a lot of crap when I was a kid

Gortexfogg 07-25-2003 04:55 PM

Transformers
He-Man
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Ghostbusters
G.I. Joe

And I had the toys to go along with those shows too...

Animaniacs and Duck Tales were cool too.

YaWhateva 07-25-2003 05:05 PM

X-Men and Darkwing Duck.

Nikilidstrom 07-25-2003 05:57 PM

no question, my favorite of all time was Dukes of Hazzard. I still have my Dukes of Hazzard tv dinner tray, Daisy Duke cleavage and all.

and Voltron (lions, not cars :)) was bad ass! So was Tranzor Z, the one with the gaint chic robot that fired boobie missles.

I also used to get up at 5AM to catch the multiple GI Joe and Thundercats miniseries.

wordssmith22 07-25-2003 05:59 PM

The whole tgif lineup, x-men, the darkwing duck lineup thing with tail spins and just the regular ducks, and gi joe. i saw an episode of gi joe recently that was just really really cheesy. but eh, still love it

gibz0r 07-25-2003 06:14 PM

TMNT definately.
Other shows I loved were Ghostbusters, Transformers Generation 2, the A-Team, Knight Rider, Airwolf

SabrinaFair 07-25-2003 06:42 PM

David and the Gnomes!!!
They don't make shows like they used to...

gar1976 07-26-2003 06:26 AM

Muppet show. Reading rainbow. Smurfs. GI Joe. Transformers. A team.

gar1976 07-26-2003 06:27 AM

Oh, and Airwolf. Nothing like spending ten minutes seeing them start up the chopper every episode.

djflish 07-26-2003 06:52 AM

Theres so many cartoons that bring back fond memories:

Transformers
Thundercats
Mask
Visionaries
He-Man
Action Force (That what GI Joe was called in Europe)
Ulysses 31
Bravestarr...

There are too many to list!

th0r 07-26-2003 06:57 PM

Ghostbusters, He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Thundercats, Transformers, Trap Door.

Cant remember the rest I liked everything! :)

numberfive 07-26-2003 09:04 PM

TNMT, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears, Care Bears, most of the stuff that came on Nick, Teddy Ruxpin, Snorks, Ghostbusters, Denver the last Dinosaur, Eureka's Castle, and this one show with these Gnomes.
