Teen Titans

Anyone else see Teen Titans on the Cartoon Network this weekend? Very interesting style of animation. It kind of switches between U.S. style animation and manga. It was a little less serious then I would have liked but still fun to watch.

Going in with the expections that I did, TT ended up surprising me. Wasn't mind blowing or anything, but I didn't have a use for the vomit bag that I'd prepared. /begin thread jack Unlike Mtv's Spiderman /end thread jack

I missed it, but was just wondering -

Is it any comparable to, oh... say "Justice League"? I mean, sure, the show revolves around a bunch of kids. And the premise revolves around an adaptation of the Teen Titan comic books (severely updated I might add).

But anyway, yeah, "Justice League"-ish or not?

Not as such. It's definitely JL-ish due to its DC/WB source of origin, but not really in the same mood (much sillier, although the action sequences are good and taken seriously). It feels kind of like X-Men: Evolution, thrown into a blender with a comedy-style anime (SD character-transformation, throbbing forehead veins). I like it, though other anime fans will probably scoff, just like they did when this was tried in the aforementioned "Totally Spies".

i feel its much better than xmen evolution
its seems more frantic and fun
xmen is lousy art , uninteresting characters which i dont understand how you turn some of the best characters ever created into one dimensional bland ass teens.

I just saw tonight's episode, and I must say, it was pretty good. This show may become one of my regulars.

I find that I'm spending more of my nights watching Cartoon Network.

With Justice League, X-Men : Evolution and now Teen Titans, I'm like a kid in a candy store.

Who needs crappy tv shows and syndicated crap? Good Entertainment is out there; you just have to look for it.

I enjoy it very much, even though it's geared towards a much younger audience than Justice League. Even though this show was the reason the Young Justice comic got cancelled, but thats a whole different story altogether.

I would like it if the characters had more depth though. It seems that the titans are their superhero personas 24-7.

I finally saw the show, and I gotta say that it is giving me cavities. And thats a good thing

diergray - The theme song is by Puffy Amiyumi. Probably one, if not THE, most famous Japanese exports in the past 10 years.

You can get the theme song on Puffy Ami Yumi's new album "nice" (it's available in the US--and as far as I know only the US version has the song)

I haven't seen anything but some of the teasers for the show. The animation and layout look a bit weak to me.

eh.

Are all of the characters real dc characters? Raven reminded me a lot of Cloak, from marvel's Cloak and Dagger series in the begining of last night episode.

They're all the real deal. Although the characters are slightly older versions than what they may currently be portrayed in the show- last I checked, Beast Boy was going by the name Changeling, and Raven wore a white cloak after undergoing some sort of "cleansing". Starfire and Cyborg were more or less the same.

Something struck me as odd recently- if all the WB series are considered to be of the same continuity, is this Robin intended to be Tim Drake? What makes me wonder is in the Batman Beyond movie, the Joker brainwashed him, and they said he gave up being Robin after that. Unless that's when he went independent and formed the Teen Titans...

Shhhhhh. The continuity police will hear you. I guess they can pass Batman Beyond off as an "alternate" future. Anyway the thing that bugs me about the show is that they made them all pre-teenish (except for Cyborg) And where's Nightwing?

Ok, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I just didn't care for it. I think that they're taking this young superhero thing just a bit too far. What's next Baby Avengers? No thanks, I'll pass.
I did like the animatoin style and want to see more of it, but it's just not enough to hook me.

Im with jonsgirl. I think it is crappy. I mean pick one; anime/manga show geared toward the pokemon crowd or more of a hardcore xmen/justice league adult cartoon. It keeps jumping back and forth and doesnot seem to find a groove.

I find it sorta iffy; it has some good points (mainly Raven. The chick can kick some serious booty) but the animaion switching can get tiresome, and at times it seems a bit too.....kiddy. Other than that, it seems pretty good.

If I remember the history of the comic universe, the Robin that forms Teen Titans is Dick Grayson, he becomes Nightwing later. I wonder if the show is gonna bring in the other missing members. 4 or 5 are missing right? Donna and Lilith are the only two names that come to mind. Also, for the show, I think Tim is the Robin we see b/c I heard Nightwing might be showing up in Season 2 and no one else but Dick Grayson can be Nightwing.
