Your favorite anime?

Which anime do you like most? I like Doraemon and Hunter x Hunter, and yours?
Do you like collecting something around your favourate characters?

Latex Ren 12-20-2010 04:24 AM

Bleach :)

Vaultboy 12-22-2010 08:43 AM

Yeah, the 100 episodes of Bleach that aren't filler.

I'd have to go with Naruto. Sure, lots of anime have been better in storyline and style, but Naruto has an x-factor that keeps me coming back.

snowy 12-22-2010 08:53 AM

Agreed, Vaultboy. Watching the anime got me into reading the manga, which I do every week. There's always some twist I wasn't expecting.

I do like Bleach, but I don't keep up with it the way my husband does. I also really liked Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Really liked Darker than Black, but I didn't like the second season that came out in 2009 as much as I liked the first.

telekinetic 12-22-2010 08:59 AM

Trigun, mostly before the last few episodes got ridiculous. Elfen Lied, but I'd like it more if the same characters (who were very well developed) were in a story arc that was a little less soul crushing. Bleach up through epi 100 was really good, haven't caught back up since then as a series with over 300 episodes is a little unwieldy to keep up with after missing a few years.

Download an episode guide that cuts out the filler, then you can easily finish it. I'm serious when I say that more than two thirds of bleach are filler - that doesn't even really affect/give insight into characters or the core storyline. I reckon Bleach should finish in the next 20 episodes or so, unless they throw in another filler arc.

Hmm, this list just says:

Episode 033
Episode 050
Episode 064 - 109 (45)
Episode 128 - 137 (9)
Episode 147 - 149 (2)
Episode 168 - 189 (21)
Episode 204 - 205 (2)
Episode 213 - 214 (2)
Episode 227 - 265 (38)
Episode 266
Episode 287
Episode 298 - 299 (2)

Which is 125 out of 300...unfortunately I've already watched over a 3rd of it, so I still have about 120 non-filler episodes left...gah.

Jove 12-22-2010 10:11 AM

Cowboy Bebop
Deathnote

Zeraph 12-22-2010 03:35 PM

Bleach (without the fillers) is way up there. But for number 1 I'd have to say Elfen Lied. Check it out sometime if you haven't, its only like 13 episodes.

Also, we just had a thread like this a few months ago IIRC (but my memory is bad).

Vaultboy 12-22-2010 11:12 PM

Of the single season anime of 2010, I'd have to say you have to watch:
1. High School of the Dead: Pantyshot humor and Zombies - what more could you ask for?
2. Hyakka Rouran Samurai Girls: Shogunate pantyshot anime, with a very interesting visual style, and my favourite anime theme songs for the year.

Pantyshots! I like your style! :D those will have to go on my to-do list.

PS if you like lech (I believe that's what the genre is called, short for lecherous) you'll like elfen lied. Its horror with a lot of nudity.

I usually see it read as the diminutively-descriptive ero, which serves well enough to be recognized in the Americas, Europe, as well the home production country of Japan. Eroge is what I believe it is derived from, which is a compound shortening of "erotic game", but it eventually spread to be able to define anime series as well.

Oh, the real genre description to which I was trying to recall is called ecchi, which is just a broad defining term for any manga / anime and perhaps live-action series that incorporates sexual humour, suggestive dialogue, and in most often the case, examples of sometimes hilariously-timed fan service scenes. It is the TV-14 term of animated sexiness, I think. Anything above that, which could involve explicit nudity and/or sex scenes, I believe is then more commonly served to be known as hentai. Close enough, I suppose (lech <-> ecchi).

I doubt anyone cares about this, though. I, too easily, try to incorporate a little discussion where it is not warranted. Sorry about that.

I don't usually play favorites with anything, but, I do hold the habit of listing anything of which I find amusing, well-created, and superb. I'd recommend, for starters, two sides of basically the same genre:

Japanese:
Tetsujin 28(-go?)

American:
The Big Guy and Rusty (.., the Boy Robot)

(Yes, for reasons stemming from my own childhood, into the next generation, who doesn't love gigantic robo-mechas {that can sometimes be worn as a suit})?

About your second inquiry, justsoso, if I had the disposable income and time to search out what could be cool, (as well if I had a static "home", and didn't travel so much) I'd definitely like to collect some miniature figurines and/or models. They can be quite expensive, however, and considering that some collectibles are created solely as "Japan-only", then it can become a bit more constricted for a real hobbyist (both in terms of finding what you might like, and how much of a punch your wallet is to take in obtaining it).

For now, boxed DVD-sets are something that I'd like just as well (however, some of the older run and/or less popular and obscure, cult-based titles, think less 2 seasons run in NA, or ten episodes or less in Japan, then sometimes the production companies do not even bother in re-releasing the series on DVD.)

I really, really liked Patlabor 2. It's like someone gave Tom Clancy the job of writing a mecha novel and he hit it out of the park Red October style. I think anime is a great medium for adult political thrillers, but it's only occasionally utilized to its full potential.

Code Geass was a lot of fun. Bebop, of course, is the ultimate stylish noir anime. The 08th MS Team was really impressive. I'm going to give Evangelion another shot because the first time I watched it, the ending was a complete mess at the end of what seemed to be a great series.

But yeah, Patlabor 2 is my favorite.

I am not big into anime, but Naruto is my favorite... Which reminds me. I need to catch up on a few months of Manga.

snowy 01-24-2011 08:12 AM

Where did you stop reading? The last few months have been incredible!

animosity 01-24-2011 09:48 AM

I am not really sure. I think I will need to go back and reread several. I believe Konan had just died, but I cannot really remember what happened.

Zeraph 01-25-2011 11:01 AM

"Claymore" I just watched it all on netflix and loved it.

Strange Famous 03-26-2011 03:31 PM

also Princess Mononoke...she might be half wolf, but she's some dame.

Then again, Lain is basically a goddess.

Anxst 03-29-2011 02:24 PM

Vision of Escaflowne has always been a favorite of mine, for its blending of typical genres.

Cowboy Bebop and Noir are both great dark noir anime.

Samurai Champloo for fun action.

But when it comes to getting people hooked on anime as a general idea, if they've never seen it before, I always turn to the first season of Ranma 1/2. Everyone likes Ranma.

WhoaitsZ 04-06-2011 08:26 PM

the original Records of Lodoss Wars.

I loved Bleach but got bored when the vampire crap kicked in.

I find it hard to watch anime now... I loved it when younger, though.

Just FYI that was a filler. Not actually part of Bleach. As in, its not a part of the manga.

Zeraph 04-11-2011 09:00 AM

Oh, I can't believe I forgot! Soul Eater. Really good anime, good animation too.
