Just saw this on CBC News, sad indeed, loved Naked Gun as a kid, RIP Leslie, thanks for the laughs.

Canadian actor and comedian Leslie Nielsen has died at age 84.

The Saskatchewan native was admitted to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, 12 days before his death at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. He died of pneumonia.

“It’s very sad,” said Doug Nielsen, nephew of the famous funnyman. “But he died peacefully, surrounded by his friends, his family and his wife.”

He made his mark as a comedian with a breakout role in the film parody Airplane! and again with the 1980s trilogy The Naked Gun, the Naked Gun 2 1/2 and the Naked Gun 33 1/3.

At one point in Airplane! Nielsen’s character is asked: “Surely, you can’t be serious?” to which the actor replied (with deadpan expression): “I am serious. And don’t call me Shirley.” This line became among the most memorable of Nielsen’s career and made it on the American Film Institute’s list of top 100 movie quotes.

Nielsen was the recipient of a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Canada’s Walk of Fame.

He had been living in Florida at the time of his death.

Airplane! and Naked Gun were amongst my earliest memories of great comedy growing up.

The genius of this man's comedy has no comparison.

Many of us are grateful to the comedic legacy he has left behind.

He will be dearly missed.

I grew up watching him in movies. He will definitely be missed. Now I've got to get on organizing a Naked Gun marathon.

Airplane came out when I was 12-years-old. In fact, I am pretty certain that we went to see it for my birthday.

Surely my sense of humour was shaped by that important event.

Indeed it was shaped, and stop calling me Shirley.

RIP, Shirley.
Can anybody else go from serious actor to top notch dead-pan humor as well as Leslie Nielsen did?

I loved him in his more iconic roles, but I also enjoyed him in Due South.

He'll be missed.

RIP Leslie... Saskatchewan lost a couple yesterday.

He was on nearly everything on TV shows I watched as a kid, but his performance in Airplane was the first comedy that had me crying. Kentucky Fried Movie, anyone?

Genius straight man with a hella legacy.

On the BBC news they cut into the heavyweight political stuff to play in a montage of his best moments! :D

Nobody does sight gags and dead pans like him. I have POLICE SQUAD (In Color) on DVD and it gets better every time I watch it.
