LOST: Season 6 (Beware Spoilers Inside)
Here we go again for the last time!
I don't think I've been this excited for a TV show since Twin Peaks back in the 80's.

Woot. It will finally be over! Excited and sad..
Man, I can't believe they waited so damn long between seasons. It ain't right. Can't do that with a show like Lost. I barely remember half of what was going on. The recap only helps with so much. So who are all these temple people? They're new right? |

It's getting hard not to see this as a Jesus allegory right now. But it's a really frickin' cool Jesus allegory. And Satan just wants to go home.
Aren't you all glad we're free? Free from the shackles of God's Law? Hurray, God is dead! I just wonder where they're going with the alternate timeline, why the Island is suddenly underwater, and to what significance the LAX problems will amount. And will they go the resurrection route, or is dead still dead? Great lines: "You shouldn't have done that. I wasn't supposed to live." "I'm sorry you had to see me like that, Ben."

So, Smokey has appeared as such before? He's the man in black right?
I think the island is underwater because the bomb was successfully detonated. This allowed the Oceanic flight to land safely at LAX. Meanwhile the alternate timeline is preserved in parallel. Maybe the Jacob character will join them back together at somepoint.

Here's a question: If the Man in Black can turn himself into an all destroying black cloud, what can Jacob turn himself into?
I wonder how Jacob will return. Hurley can talk to his spirit but I can only imagine he'll be able to physically manifest himself at some point. Perhaps the resurrected Sayid is his vessel. Dead is dead right? I'm even looking forward to how the parallel plotline in LA will play itself out. I bet they'll converge towards the end but there is a lot of potential in the mean time. So much awesome...

What a mind bender of an opener. I can't wait to see where this takes us. I like seeing how much worse off some of the people are if the plane had landed and how much better off others are. It's a wonderful contrast to what we've seen them all go through over the past few years. I'm eager to see where we go from here.

Ya but we still don't really know who/what he is :P or why he can do that. Or why he can be summoned. And does he absorb souls or something? He seemed to know intimate things about John. Or just a general shapeshifter? We saw dead people in his cloud. Also, why couldn't he hurt jacob? Jacob is an even bigger mystery really... sigh...

I'm thinking Jacob and his nemesis are some sort of fallen angels or the like, banished from Heaven or something. As such they can take any form. The show is open to the supernatural now anything is possible.

After last season's finale, the internets dubbed him "the man in black". In fine LOST tradition, the writers and crew picked up on that, and now call him that as well.
Seriously (he said, as an aside), LOST has made EXCELLENT work of fan feedback. There have been several times when commentary from online viewers have found their way into the dialog of the show. It's pretty awesome to know they're keeping such close tabs on their fans. |

Has anyone noticed the minor character differences in the parallel universe when the plane didn't crash?
Also, I would like to know if the other survivors of the oceanic 815 are now the new others since the previous others were all eliminated? |

Yeah, they put the Dharma logo on the shark that attacked Michael's raft in S2. The producers intended it to be an easter egg for the DVD buyers who obsessively frame-by-frame their way through things, but it was a little too obvious and was seen on broadcast day. Massive fan-speculation ensued, and it turns out not to have been really anything but a joke. This is a very nice homage, three years later, but I wouldn't get too antsy about there being actual dharma sharks.

The man in black fucking scares me. And it's not even so much what he's done. It's how everyone responds to him, even if they aren't talking about it.
Also, super yay to the return of Claire. I missed her. This season can't happen fast enough. It's really delivering for me so far. |

Spoiler: In the final episode evil Locke jumps the Dharma shark, but doesn't make it. The evil is vanquished forever and everyone gets to go home after Jacob reveals himself as Fonzie and "Eeeeyyyyyyyyyyy!" 's them all back to Kansas.
I've been finding it hard to get back into the show after such a long break, but its been ok so far. Judging by the last episode it looks like they may be going back to season 1 a bit and start giving individual characters their own episodes to wrap up their stories/ show who/how they really are/ why they were "chosen." To be honest I've stopped speculating on the show, since after introducing all this magic-like stuff its impossible to predict. With time travel stuff can be logically worked out to a possible ending, and without the time travel it was still possible to somewhat speculate even though they added a new variable each week (hatch, pirate ship, others, etc.) Even when they started to hint at religious stuff it was still possible to imagine an ending. Now it can literally be anything. It is sorta getting hard to follow cuz there are so many stories going on at the same time. The show needs to condense a bit and there aren't many episodes left to do it in. Like in the last episode Jin mentioned getting back to Sun while escaping the temple with Kate. I had almost completely forgotten about those folks cuz i had 50 other stories in that episode to try and figure out. I'm really interested to see how they're gonna pull this all together.

I started listening to the podcast that Cuse and Lindelof put out weekly starting back in season 2. It's fun, they're witty guys, and they clearly love interacting with their fans. Good stuff all around.
They used to joke that season 5 would be "the zombie season". So this week when Hugo called out to it, it was a GREAT inside joke. |

ObieX- Wait, is that an actual spoiler for the actual last episode, or did you mean most recent? I stopped reading as soon as I saw "final."
I know the writer's said they weren't in purgatory, and they aren't dead, but what if they are alive, but went through a portal to hell? The writers only ever said they weren't dead, and that they weren't in purgatory My reasoning (besides all the crazy stuff that happens) is because every time one of them purges themselves from sin/past mistakes they die (and move on, pressumbly to heaven). Those that remain have unfinished business and keep having poetic punishments happen to them (Siad getting tortured, Jack making decisions that hurt those he loves, Kate and Soyer forever running, etc.). But those that give up their past sins, like charlie kicking his habit, and making a selfless decision to help the others/devout time to claire/baby, he dies (moves on). I think the pattern fits for almost every single one of them. Makes me think religion/afterlife has *something* to do with it. Though I suppose it doesn't mean they're in hell. Maybe garden of eden? I think that's already been shot down, ya? It'd be more like the reverse of the garden of eden. |

Huh, so just realized something when thinking of Claire (besides; she's hot.) So we thought she was dead and that's why she could see her dead long lost dad (and was hanging out with him) and the other dead people (IIRC.) But now apparently she isn't dead. Why can so many people see or talk to dead people?!
I must figure out the big mystery before the show is over |

I don't remember her leaving very clearly. Was she just gone in the middle of the night or something? Charlie drowned and then... What?
I remember we ran into her hanging in Jacob's cabin with Christian. I now STRONGLY suspect that Jacob's cabin hasn't been Jacob's in a good long time--Christian is definitely an "inhabitee" of the Man In Black, and the ash protection circle is broken, and probably has been for a while. I guess it was MIB that Locke heard say "help me"? |

Ah so maybe Claire never saw dead people, and maybe Jack and her never saw their father, perhaps it was MIB all along. Good memory about the cabin with the ash...totally makes sense. Apparently MIB is infecting/claiming people and he has the ability to take the shape of dead people.

Oh, I think that's absolutely the implication. He has Christian's body the same way he has Locke's. Now he has Sayid the same way he has Claire.
EDIT: Also Alex! In the temple "vestibule", after her death, telling Ben to go do whatever Locke says. Well. That wasn't Locke, and that wasn't Alex. Last edited by ratbastid; 02-12-2010 at 06:51 PM.. |

Ahhhh, yeah, that's right. Good catch. Boy, I wonder if they expect us to figure all this out on our own or what Looking back more and more things are making sense. And if anything, it is seeming less afterlifeish since I'm not sure any dead people were really up and walking. I wonder then if Jacob was even real when he talked to Hurley as a "ghost" or if that was really MIB? They did show MIB way back at the foot/statute but he moves fast...
naw that was probably jacob as Hurley has talked to dead people off island (meaning, apparently Hurley really can see dead people) and MIB has said he can't leave the island. So I guess some people have come back as genuine ghosts. So I wonder if MIB had claimed the french woman (name escaping me, she died, Roseau?.) They are kind of implying its the same "sickness." And if he did, then that puts a whole new suspicion on her earlier motives in the earlier seasons when she was helping some of them. Now if only I could remember what her agenda was like...it might shed even more light on MIBs machinations. In fact, nearly everyone that went crazy with the "sickness" or whatever (remember that guy from the previous hatch before desmond?) may have been steered by MIB. Danielle Rousseau. YES: We can now see why she was so paranoid. People aren't who they seem. Presumably she watched teammates die and then come back to life different. What did she say about her husband? She killed him because he wasn't him? Something like that.
