Why not gate hopping? The ship would only be 2-5 "light hours" away (not very far at all by stargate standards). I doubt they'd figure out how to turn around for him, but you never know, they may tease us and leave him on the planet for several episodes. Getting an old ship that crash landed to work seems unlikely; imagine getting a jet that crashed to fly again with no spare parts or tools.

What I like about this series is that we really don't know how they'll get them back together. They really could go any direction.

My feeling is that he won't get the crashed ship flying but will get inside it and use it for shelter. He's resourceful so I'll bet he'll even get some limited functionality going. I think the GalactiDestiny crew will come back for Rush only to find him living the happy hermit lifestyle like Obie Wan Kenobie.

I applaud this show again for holding off on "the weekly pew pew" (thanks fugly!). The scene where they are taste-testing the alien sweet potato was simple but sublime. It's the kind of science fiction I'm really interested in.

How DO you know if an alien vegetable is edible or not?

Hah, yes. I loved the bit about the alien sweet potato too.

I also just thought of another way for Rush to get back. He gets the communications systems working on the alien ship and contacts them (much more reasonable than getting it flying).

My guess is that he will activate some kinda transmitter on the alien ship, meet the aliens when they come to check it out, and have them drop him off.

Either that or one of those pod things that broke off the ship in one of the early episodes will find him.

The problem with gate hopping is that he would need to know the address(es) of a planet(s) to gate to. Usually there is more than 1 gate address that comes up when the gate opens. This time i didn't hear them say that.

I think I recall an SG1 episode where Sam and Daniel pulled the directory list from the dialer pod thing. So I'm sure Rush could figure that out. I'm starting to think it less likely as well, but I still think it'd be a viable way to get back. All Rush would need to know is basic astronomy (to know the direction the ship was heading and follow it with the stargates) and a little luck to gate to a world ahead of the ship.

So far all the worlds have been habitable enough to at least gate back before you died (would be tough, but he could hold his breath). Picking the right ones is easier than it might sound as there are fewer gates in the vicinity (earlier in an episode I think there were only ~4 gates within range for instance) than in the previous SGs since their galaxies were already completely seeded.

OK, maybe more than hard, but possible.

After rethinking that through I'm now leaning toward Rush getting the alien ship's com systems working and contacting the ship (..what was its name?) and then them figuring out how to fly it after that guy sat in the chair wakes up.

Or *one more* possibility is that Eli could get the truth out of the captain and Rush might not have to do anything to get rescued...so many possibilities.

I was surprised Rush got back so quickly. The aliens were well done. Anyone know what that word the aliens sent was? I didn't make it out. Was annoying the whole episode wondering... despite the action and the cool aliens that has to be the most boring episode so far. I didn't feel like any of the characters were in any danger. Nor was there really much if any character development. Looks like they finally caved into to the pressures of the old SG1 reputation (for making action flicks).

It said Surrender. I wouldn't know though because I don't watch this show...

Really? I thought it was quite exciting!

Sure they COULD go down the "weekly pew pew" route but I was encouraged by the fact that they didn't reveal too much about the aliens: No name, no translation, motivations only speculated against... It was a fine way to introduce an antagonist.

Remember at the end of first episode when a mysterious pod was seen detaching from Destiny? On the after-show they have on Space channel here in Canada, it was revealed with a close-up screengrab that that pod was actually one of this Alien's fighter ships. They've been watching since the beginning! How cool is that? It shows that the writers are playing the long game and I think it bodes well for how they plot out aliens over the coming seasons.

Hello,

Now that we're into season two of Stargate Universe I thought I'd post to see what you people think of it so far? I've been enjoying it -- it is certainly different from the previous Stargate series but still enjoyable! Definitely have been a few "OH NO WAY!" moments for me!

So far, it's not bad, and they just added a ton of new characters (ok, just 2 and more extras). The new crew members will help, considering they left some people and a shuttle on a livable planet.

Everything about that season premiere seemed entirely too convenient. It was still enjoyable to watch, I'm just skeptical about how they're going to develop this all-powerful alien race. If they just use them as an escape from impossibly difficult-to-resolve plot twists (like raising a child in the dangerous ship conditions, and finding winter lodging), I will be disappointed.

I was surprised they killed off whatsername, the leader of the hijackers. Maybe the actress got another gig. It was a nice break from convention anyway.

Here's what I don't understand: what the hell happened to Chloe's leg? At the end of Season 1 she practically dying from the bullet wound and unable to walk, then in the beginning of Season 2 they throw in some line, like, "Oh, it's fine now and I can walk perfectly." The end.

What the hell? Did I miss something?

Based on the overall season 2 promo trailer (watch at 1min25s), it looks like she has inherited some Alien DNA (or something) during her abduction. It's affecting her body.

I agree that the communication stones are perhaps being utilized a lot, but if you were on that ship, wouldn't you be using them as much as possible? If people on any team are your most valuable resource, then the ability to bring on-board experts in any field is pretty awesome.

More than the other Stargates, this one seems to take some serious risks -- killing off the leader of the L.A. (although she was very one-dimensional "evil leader" sort of character) and just now killing off Riley (who was a fan favorite from what I've seen online) as well as that cliff-hanger where Rush was left stranded on the planet by Young. More than any other show, when Young walked through the Stargate at the end of the episode and it closed behind him and the ship jumped I went "NO WAY!! THEY LEFT HIM!" even though I knew as a main character he'd have to come back. Still... a shocking moment.

I just think they should have elongated the season premiere to at least 2 episodes.

I don't think the all powerful alien race saving the baby was a cop out. I think it was meant as more of a, "did it really happen?" moment. The only proof she has is that gas formation she saw. I'm assuming they still had the baby's dead fetus on the ship otherwise the doctors would have mentioned it vanishing somehow. All in all I liked it. It was very scifi ish. Makes you wonder what happened.

^^ But remember the dude on the planet said she should probably not mention anything about the baby saving thing in case everyone else thinks she's nuts. That and he also said "What they saw was not the same as what you see now. Here in the edge of the universe, the only thing that matters is what you believe."

Loved episode 2. I enjoyed watching Rush deal with his possible insanity. And to make it even more fun, they killed off yet another someone unexpected. They've started a delightful trend of developing each character just enough that you're never quite sure who is disposable.

This year is doing better than the last i'd say. It seems more worth watching. The first season was a bit odd, i thought. Everything they did, even when it was supposed to be a high tension or action scene, seemed.. well.. kinda boring. I dunno what it was..

They're doing some pretty interesting things so far this season. I really got a kick out of seeing one of the seed ships and how it linked up to destiny the way it did. The new aliens are kinda similar to the first ones, i was hoping for something different. Maybe something NOT of the standard 2 arms 2 legs variety. I mean if the alien is going to be CGI anyway ya may as well go all out imagination-wise.

I like how they're injecting some mystery to the show with the "super aliens" watching over them (ascended ancients perhaps? or another ascended race?) And the visions that Rush is having when on the ship's bridge. Is destiny talking to him? is he infected with alien DNA like Chloe? Is it the super-aliens trying to guide him down the "right" path?

The show is still missing a lot of that old stargate charm but its slowly coming into it's own.

I think I read an article awhile ago that explained that they do that in shows because people find the non bipedal aliens campy(er) and unrealistic. Kind of ironic. But yeah.

Yeah its because its a different kind of show altogether. It just happens to have a similar title. I personally love the new direction but can see where many old fans might not.

Exactly. I never got into the other shows despite enjoying the movie. SGU is more my style.

It's kind of a shame because the Space channel here in Canada reruns episodes of the older shows a few times a day.

SG1 was the kind of show that I would feel comfortable watching with my nephew (age 9), but still highly enjoyable for a more mature audience. Atlantis, too, seemed a family-friendly show. SGU is dark, creepy, and incredibly adult. It is another type of show entirely. It seems to have a similar grittiness to Caprica and Battlestar Galactica (not Classic), as if it is trying to attract their fan base. In the process, though, they have cut out the young sic-fi watching crowd whose parents are more comfortable with them watching Clone Wars and Ben 10. It is sad to me that Stargate has moved in this direction, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying SGU. I'm sure it would have been different if Stargate Infinity (animated, children's show) had taken off.

I've also seen up to episode 7 or 8 and yea shit is gettin real. Spoiler: i thought that redhead was pretty hot, it sucks they killed her off so fast. Poor Rush and Math Boy.
There's still possibly that alien battle coming up and I'm hoping for something big when it comes to the possible attack on Earth. I wanna see an epic space battle like the one in SG-1 where the Ori first came through the super gate. I heard some rumors about some SG-A people making a guest appearance this season (?). I'd like to see Atlantis swoop in and save the day at some point - wormhole drive muthafuqas!

Hulu is gonna have everyone wait 30 days to see more episodes, which usually means a show isn't getting great TV ratings. I reeeeally don't want them to cancel the show cuz its starting to grow on me.

Thank you for sharing that! The other really good battle in all of SG is the one where something is attack earth and it has to do with antartica. Can't remember much more than that or I'd try looking it up and posting a vid of it.
