The Prisoner (2009 AMC Reboot)

I am so jonesing for this series. I've seen scraps of the original but never really committed myself so I'm going to be watching this new one without any hang-ups.

I just watched the 9 minute (!!) trailer and the casting and production value looks top notch.

Anyone else?

I just found out that it will be airing here on the SciFi channel.

I can't wait.

I just had a client give me the original series on DVD and I will be watching it again just so I am up to speed.

Interesting. I also heard good things about the original, but never put the time in to watch it. I see it is a miniseries (good, that means it'll have a definitive ending) and will start in November. Could someone bounce this thread as it approaches? How many episodes will it be?

I loved the original as a kid and definitely look forward to this. I shall have to add this to my DVR list, so thanks for the heads up.

AMC has been coming up with some good stuff.

I understand that AMC will be streaming (and maybe airing) the original series as well.

I read on another board that it will be 6 hours long, aired over 3 nights... but that information was a few months ago. I wouldn't call it verified.

It's nice to see they're investing their Mad Men money into something good. Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen?

Thanks for the heads up on this. We used to watch the orig all wide-eyed when I was a kid. We had no clue what was going on, but we loved that wobbly bubble...

Bump for opening episode, tomorrow - Sunday November 15th. I don't think I have the energy to bother, however.

May well be the television event of the fall for us oldtimers. If they replay the original series, it would be nice to see a few shows from the old Danger Man series it was a spin-off of, too. At least the last one, which led to his resignation from the Secret Service.

On AMC's website there's a flash graphic novel that's set in the world of the new show. I'll be following it. The first episode had a clue leading me to here:

...though I haven't explored it much yet.

I have the 1 terabyte HD TiVo XL. But I also didn't finish last season's Office, and I haven't even started Glee. Not as much time for TV these days.

Mine was all set too but when it started the dreaded Record-Blocking Signals Detected message popped up and my machine stopped and turned itself off.

So instead I'm recording it on our VCR and I'll be watching it on our old 13" TV.

Motherfuckers!

It's interesting and fun... different than the original, & I'll watch it at least for awhile. I think there's a lot of potential here.

But somehow it doesn't capture the atmosphere of the original series. I think the attempt at love/sex interest is at odds with the original #6's total loner personality.

I'm a day behind (we watched part 2 tonight while part 3 was spooling up on the DVR) So far I have to say, this is REALLY fun. I love hating Ian McKellan again. It's been since his Richard III that he's played somebody really despicable. He's so great as a nasty old schemer. And the thing about 2 is, so far he hasn't lied once. When he's manipulating you, he's TELLING you he's manipulating you, but he's set it up so you have no choice but to let yourself be manipulated. Not that there isn't a ton going on that he doesn't talk about--just that what comes out of his mouth seems to always be true.

Caveziel's energy is just sharp. He's tense and taut and dark and edgy. Really great.

So many unanswered questions! It's like LOST in four hours (so far)!

I won't be airing here for a little while yet. But I have to say that I've been reading the reviews out there and your enthusiasm is good to hear. The reviews have been largely luke warm.

Just found out about it this weekend - discovered I could watch several episodes back to back starting with Episode 3; but they aren't showing earlier ones in the near future . . . . so why bother? Maybe I'll put it in a Tivo Wishlist . . . .
