Green Lantern movie?!

Am I always the last to know? Apparently, they are in pre-production, and Ryan Reynolds has just been cast as Hal Jordan.

Have I just been totally out of it, or is anyone else surprised by this? Not that I am displeased. Reynolds probably has as good a shot at being a fair Hal Jordan as anyone-- I think he's an underrated and under-used actor. Although I might've enjoyed seeing Nathan Fillion or Matt Damon give it a go.

Thoughts? Any other good comic book rumors floating around?

I didn't know about this, either...

Exciting news.

Reynolds is a great actor, and I think he'd do it justice.

As with most of this sort of thing, I am going to take a wait and see attitude.

I like Ryan Reynolds and think he could pull it off.

It will all depend on the script, the budget and the director.

According to IMDB, the director is Martin Campbell, who did the two Zorro movies (liked the first one, didn't even bother with the second one), and also the two Bond movies GoldenEye and Casino Royale. According to various other sources, like this one, the screenplay in use is apparently the work of Marc Guggenheim, who has written a number of quality episodes of TV dramas (The Practice, Law & Order, etc.) and is the creator of the TV series "Eli Stone."

Make of that what you will....

I hope actual fans make the movie instead of executives. I'd much rather see Green Lantern turn out like Iron Man than something like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen or Fantastic Four.

I just hope his too-close-together eyes don't look weird in the mask.
Otherwise, he's pretty good for the role.
Him as Flash would've been great, though. Wally, I think.

Not that Im a huge Green Lantern fan, but the casting of Reynolds in this makes me apprehensive. I thought he was god awful as Deadpool as well as Hannibal King, so I'm not too excited to hear he's involved in this. I also see hes going to be doing a stand alone Deadpool movie. He should stick to slapstick and romantic comedies.

Yay me for knowing diddly about Hal Jordan so I have no opinion on Reynolds being cast. But Martin Campbell will direct this. If it's the same quality as Casino Royale then I'm down.

(Btw, I just wanna say that Wally West Flash ought to be played by Neil Patrick Harris. Especially the way he's depicted in Justice League cartoon series.)

I'm really hoping they'll do a decent Flash movie. He's probably my favorite comic book character and I see an opportunity in the Flash to combine the darkness of more recent comic book movies with a lightness and humor more serious heroes lack.

As for NPH, he'd certainly bring the funny, but there's a physicality that I'd want from my Flash. What about Jamie Bell? Oh, wait, this thread is about Green Lantern. Oops!

I just don't know how they can make anything serious out of the Green Lantern, unless they do a Dark Knight style "reboot" and completely eliminate making giant goofy things with the ring.

It's actually a fun origin story. Abin Sur crashes on earth and as he dies allows his ring to choose a worthy replacement, someone "utterly honest and without fear". Present Sinestro as the seasoned and corrupt Green Lantern that killed Abin Sur and maybe throw in some personal issue to work through. If they play it extra pulp, like Lucas and Spielberg did with Indiana Jones, it could be a lot of fun.

This is important ... hence threadjack is justified ...

from the silly question thread ... cntrl+v

...

I was introduced to deadpool after I saw the fourth (first) X-men recently released. (I still bang my head at paying for that travesty) but I still don't know for the life of me what his ability was.

I know he could regenerate after the encounter with the weapons X program but before he was given that ability to regenerate, what could he do? Was he like the chick from Heroes? Erm, Micah's Cousin, wait, got it, she had Adoptive Muscle Memory.

What can deadpool do??

His ability to heal was after the gene therapy while in the Weapon X program. What could he do before that? The program gave him abilities after Wolverine consented to the infusion of Aguamenti in his bones. Deadpool was showed to be capable of great feats of bad-assery before the infusion. So my question stands, what could he do before the weapons X program?

Be a sweet ass soldier and get cancer. That's about it.

To be fair to Reynolds as Deadpool, if you're given shit to act with you can only do so much. I think he's got the chance to do a decent shot as Hal.

Besides he did have a good endorsement when he took the job.
