Anyone else watch 'Lie To Me'?
Has anyone else here gotten into 'Lie To Me'? I like it a lot, for a pretty wide variety of reasons. I find it to be cleverly and believably written, I haven't been able to see through all of the plot twists (a few obvious ones, but nothing major), and it seems to be based on legitimate (if exaggerated) science...although they still suffer from CSI-like impossible image and video 'enhance!'-itus.
I also like that they are not afraid to have episode to episode continuity, so far just with one major thread, but still, it bodes well for the series. For those not in the know, the basic premise is that there is an agency of trained behavioral psychologists (or something) who can read the face and body signs that indicate when a person is lying. The consult, using this skill, to help solve various crimes and mysteries and such. If this seems far fetched, it's actually based on good science--the main character is loosely based on a psychologist named Paul Ekman ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Ekman ), and he was involved with the Wizard's Project ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diogenes_Project ) which has to date identified 50 people (out of 20,000) who could consistently tell if people were lying. If anyone wants to check it out, the most recent four or five episodes are on Hulu, and it's Wednesdays on Fox.

Watch it. Like it. Kind of a different character than Roth usually plays, in a good way. There's only one episode that I haven't liked so far, because the entire episode they were all at each others throats.

I like it a lot. The science of universal facial expressions seems real. Good story and character development too.
Other shows like it don't really match up. The Mentalist isn't taking itself anywhere. Psych is just plain corny. Not enough happens in The Listener. |

I'm having a great time watching it so far. Definitely one of our favorite new shows. Fox gets a lot of our business-24, Dollhouse, Sarah Connor, American Idol, Lie to Me and Bones every week. I'd be happy to drop Idol, but the wife sure loves it, so there it stays.

I'm somewhat disappointed in the whole thing;
They're getting absolutely WAY too much info out of tiny details all the time. It's bordering on magic what he can do with his skills. It's the same as half the episodes on CSI where they start to zoom in indefinitly on a tiny picture made with a cellphone, to read the serial number in reverse, reflected off the television, reflected off the window. Theory is nice, but don't push it too far.
