Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire

This should be completely awesome.

Some trailers here:

Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire | Comedy Central

Krod Mandoon
Kröd Mändoon is a thin-skinned and underconfident freedom fighter, who is the last great hope in the struggle against the evil ruler, Chancellor Dongalor. To help fight the great fight, Kröd has assembled a band of remarkably ineffectual freedom fighters: Aneka, the beautiful Pagan warrioress whose weapon of choice is sex, Loquasto, the oafish servant with bad aim, Zezelryck, the young warlock whose greatest magical gift is spinning BS, and Bruce, who's simply fabulous. Together, they must overcome a myriad of evil obstacles in their quest to save the world, including name-calling, hired assassins and bad hair days.

Aneka
A fierce warrioress skilled with many weapons but none more so than her unbridled Pagan sexuality.

Zezelryck
A second rate stage magician masquerading as a powerful warlock.

Loquasto
Kröd's lovable, low born companion, who belongs to a race of pig-like creatures known as Grobbles.

and...

Bruce
The jailhouse lover of Kröd's late mentor, General Arcadius, and the newest member of the team.

It has all the markings to be a comedy of epic proportions.

Starts April 9th on comedy central

Ought to be good.
I find Kevin Hart (Zezelryck) funny as a comedian, so I'm looking forward to this.

Fantasy never really works well on the small screen, largely because you really have to go all out in order for it to not look ridiculous. However, fantasy that is either part ironic camp (Hercules, Xena) or all out satire (as I imagine this will be) can totally work. I'm very much looking forward to the show, if only because fantasy is a genre that's so easy to mock that everyone does it, but only superficially. Hopefully, these guys will be a little more subtle than your typical fantasy parody.

I didn't realize Kevin Hart was in this. I think I'll check it out just to see him. Also, the gay guy looks like he might be funny.

It's pretty funny, especially for any of those that engaged in the "olden days" of pre-WOW roleplaying.

Looking at the picture I was worried that it was going to be another Dungeon & Dragon/Eragon fiasco. Phewww.

As I predicted, Kevin Hart and the gay guy are the two most hilarious characters.

I recorded it the other night, and just got around to watching it last night, and I thought it had some funny parts, but was never laugh out loud funny. The series has potential though, and I plan on watching at least a couple more episodes.

I was not amused....Hopefully it'll become funnier with the next couple of episodes. Too many typical gay and slut jokes (IMHO).

It's just not funny.

Still, good to know Roger Allam lost a few pounds. I really enjoyed him in V for Vendetta as Lewis Prothero.

Just got around to watching this, and to me it was very reminiscent of the fairly awful Dungeons & Dragons movie, complete with the completely out of place urban/hip-hop character. It didn't work for Wayans in the D&D movie, and it doesn't work for this Chris Tucker wannabe.

Something else I don't understand. Sean Mcguire (Krod) is British, but they have him doing an American type accent.

After two episodes, I laughed out loud maybe two or three times (though I chuckled or smiled on a number of occasions). I saw the humor in a number of other things, but they fell into one of three categories:
  1. Cheesy and predictable (cheesy can be funny, but not when it's predictable...this is hard to do)
  2. Turning cliches and archetypes on their heads (a good way to avoid cheesy; this was usually done by applying modern humour tropes and gags to fantasy cliches)
  3. Witty banter and clever turnarounds (these I found well done, but not always laugh-out-loud funny; the entertainment value on this is generally good when it doesn't fit under cheesy)
This show needs to evolve or die. It needs refinement in the writing for it to work for the long term. I agree with the point that it's reminiscent of all the bad things the D&D movie had, but it can shake those off by dropping the cheese...or, at least, play it down and use it where it works. It has to downplay the predictability of the humour. Because the way the predictability is working now, it isn't very funny.

I will continue to watch it, but I hope it develops into something more rewardingly funny. It can't keep using the same cheesy gags (and survive), so I hope they drop them for that reason.

My theory so far: Spoiler: Since they say he's from a foreign land, I'm assuming that's why they changed his accent; also, it allows for a different type of humour, perhaps: British vs. American....which I think is a good idea...we'll see how that plays out.

Spoiler: I think that would have worked much better if he did an over-the-top, Bruce Campbell type accent as opposed to the bad Luke Perry, that he's doing. (also not sure why this is "spoiler" material )
