I'll have to agree that the Peyton Manning commercial is good.

I don't watch too many commercials right now, but my favorite is the FedEx commercial during the super bowl. The one with the dinosaurs.

I think one of my all time favs was the commercial for pepsi twist where Ozzy is having the nightmare where his kids turn into Donnie and Marie and he *wakes up* next to Florence Henderson.

Currently I like the WOW Ozzy commercial and all the ones with the free credit report band....oh and the all the versions of the Geico commercials, the gecko, the celebrities, and Flo (LOVE FLo)

I liked the bank commercials that were against identity theft.

I loved this one when they had the worlds funniest commercials on tv.

Most of my favourites were on a different medium and at least 50-60 years back. On the television side, that O.J. Simpson commercial sticks in my mind as effective where he is running and jumping through the airport.
all time favourites (high on the list at least): Harlow Wilcox pitching Johnson's Glo Coat or CarNu on Fibber McGee & Molly - such enthusiam and the show never actually stops for the commercial.
or Raymond Edward Johnson pitching Lipton's Tea on the Inner Sanctum. Good samples of both are on my site but not playing attention whore and posting the link in this thread.
another edit: Recent/running ads mostly annoy me or worse, and are good reason for the mute button. Especially that freecredit report spot just mentioned that clearly states enrollment and a monthly fee are required. I heartily recommend www.mycreditinform.com for credit monitoring purposes.

The freecreditreport.com ads make me want to stab myself in the ears with a pair of metal sporks! Repeatedly! When is the FTC going to shut that operation DOWN? Same goes for Enzyte. It's deceitful, if you really want a free credit report you need to talk to the credit reporting agencies, and they're just taking advantage of everyone who doesn't know that (or that a pill is not going to grow your penis).

My favorite now airing has to be Ozzy texting. The first few times I saw it, I had no f*** clue what he was saying either.

My favorite of all time is the Molson ad to the tune of Blur's Song 2 (also an awesome music video), which I seem to recall involved racing down hills in shopping carts, but I only saw it once. It might have only aired in Canada, but I was living near Detroit at the time and we had CBC. If you can find it on the internet let me know.

Since I'm in the biz, I look at commercials a different way. I look at how they are made, it's quite annoying as I'm often saying, damn that was easy or they used "x" product for that blah blah blah.. a few that I do like are the Audi Q5 spot

Yeah Josh is a great editor and he's lucky that he gets to work with some of the best compositors out there.

Andrew Kramer is another great compositor (his most recent work is the FX in Fringe) but the guys that Josh works with blows Andrew out of the water IMO.


Commercials for me are like a work of art. They are mini-stories.. most people view them as simple sales pitches.. but a really good commercial tells a story and delivers a message... even if part of that message is a sales pitch. I can tell you from direct experience that the art that goes into works such as those on Josh's site is no different than masterpieces hanging in a museum.. it's just a different medium.

I don't watch a lot of TV, but there are some campaigns that stick out to me. One thing I will say is that whichever agency Molson is using, they better be well paid. For whatever reason, their commercials tend to be memorable to me.

The bottom line: they certainly know their market.

I think much of it has to do with the commercials' ability to tap into our "Canadianness" in light of being bombarded by so many American ads. They resonate emotionally, and with humour.

Here are three examples. I don't really like Molson Canadian, as I don't typically drink mass-produced beer. But if I had to choose one, it would likely be it...yes, as a result of their advertising.... *shudder*

I think the hardest I've laughed in a long time was at the end of the Tom Cruise commercial for the Jimmy Kimmel Show during the Oscars.
The expression on his face when he looked at the camera and said, "I don't have a cat," was perfect.

I'd love to list a few of my favorite commericals right now, but I'd have to open up the vault to retrieve them from the deep recesses of my funny unconsciousness, and it's a bit too late at night for that right now.


I do, however, recall a certain ad spot that I am not 100% was a Super Bowl Ad, and I've tried and failed on several occasions to locate it on the net, but never could pinpoint it; so I offer it up to you good folks who frequent TFP and idle in the past, and perhaps know how to channel the right sources out of google to obtain this specific selling spot.

All right, the commercial I saw was as follows: It starts with a smoky 2nd-or-3rd-story building that is most likely about to erupt in flames, and a very elderly woman crying out for help from the window above. She is fighting and screaming, not only for her life to be saved, but also that of her precious little baby, a tabby cat she is cradling in her arms. Suddenly, the fire brigade, in the form of a couple of Tampa Bay Buccaneers, arrive at the scene to coax the woman out of her apartment building to the relative safety of a trampoline chute down below. The jersey-wearing firemen shout to her to throw down her cat first, so that it, then presumbably here thereafter, will be saved. They keep re-assuring her that it will be safely caught, but she is hesitant to heave her cat down some three stories. Finally, she tosses the cat out of the burning window and it is triumphantly caught by the footballing fire marshall, who in his celebration of such a rescue, is then seen doing an endzone dance, and while hoisting the cat up in one hand about to attempt to "spike the ball", his teammate shouts, "No, man, don't!" and the commercial ends. (Perhaps not ending there, as most likely what was actually being advertised would be shown in the final five seconds with a white screen and narrator informing you in a summation what that whole situation was indicative of, or something.)


I have no idea what they were advertising, but it was very funny the first time I saw it, and still is each time, remembering it. Anybody have a clue, or remember watching it as well?

You are not imagining that commercial. I think it was just one of those NFL commercials probably advertising teamwork or things to do to help your community.

One of my favorites from a few superbowls ago was the etrade ad about having money coming out the wazoo (with the patient literally having this issue).

There are tons of commercials that I like... makes me wish for adcritic was still free.

I think I'm probably one of a small handful of people that saw and loved the reebok pump commercial with them bungee jumping off the bridge.

I hate Molson's products too (I'm a Sleeman guy and Labatt if I'm drinking on the cheap) but damn they do make good ads. Everyone in Canada knows the "I AM CANADIAN" ads. Thats damn good marketing.

OH MY GOD. I almost forgot the greatest commercial of all time, bar none.

This is, quite simply, the perfect commercial. It features the product without shoving it down your throat, it's not only got heart, but Christmas spirit (and I love Christmas), it's not bogged down with distractions, and there's a hero you can really root for: the E flat Hershey's Kiss. It's not Christmas without this commercial.

And did you notice they're in the shape of a Christmas tree? *sigh*
