Recommend some sci-fi, por favor.

Stargate: Atlantis had its series finale last night. Battlestar Galactica will be ending before long.

What are some good sci-fi shows?

Fremen 01-10-2009 04:31 PM

Unless you count Sanctuary, there are no good Sci-fi shows that I know of.
I like Eureka, but I'm not sure if it's coming back.

Still running? Eh...not many, Lost kinda..

I'd check out Farscape and Firefly for older less known shows

AMC is remaking The Prisoner with Jim Caviezal and Ian McKellan, but it's not airing yet. The exact start date hasn't been released but I'm looking forward to it.

As a bonus, AMC has posted the complete original series online for your streaming pleasure. Not mine though. Stupid $^&#@ regional restrictions.

I'm enjoying Fringe on ABC. It's a bit like X-Files.

I think Lost is excellent but it may not be the pure sci fi actioner I think you're looking for. You also need to watch it from the beginning

I'd recommend Millennium, the Chris Carter post-X-Files show about the debbil and Y2K. Great spooky-wooky stuff.

Fringe is on FOX here in the US.

Doctor Who?

Daniel_ 01-11-2009 07:05 AM

Doctor Who, Torchwood, Blake's 7 (all the originals), Survivors (re-made this year)

How does Sanctuary rate against something like Battlestar Galactica?

I like Dr. Who, but for some reason I can't get into it like I can with other shows. I watch when I notice that it's on, but it's not a "can't miss it" show like others have been in the past.

I've been watching Fringe, though, and think it's great.

I have Farscape on DVD, but good sci-fi shows are slim pickings right now. I'll pick up Firefly on DVD sooner or later, but that's only a dozen or so episodes. I might have to expand my DVD collection to get my sci-fi fix.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicals.

I haven't watched any of it but it seems to have a following.

The problem with this kind of show is every episode is the same:
1. find safe place - hide from terminator
2. do something stupid, terminators discover where they are
3. gunfight/run away

I enjoyed the first couple of episodes, but then I got bored :(

Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse starts up soon (Feb. I think) no idea how good it's going to be but if it's half the show Firefly was it will be worth watching.

Maybe Lexx - the dark zone.

For Sci-Fi Comedy:

Red Dwarf

Best of the british trash sci-fi humor.

+1. I'm definitely anticipating this new one by Joss Whedon. Firefly is one of my favorite shows of all time.

I'm trying not to be too hyped about Dollhouse. I don't want to expect "the next Firefly" and be disappointed. But I'd recommend checking it out; it can't suck--it's Whedon.

Anxst 02-01-2009 07:30 PM

Definitely check out Dollhouse when it comes out. Everything I've heard from folks says it will be incredible, and a few of them have worked on it.

If you're looking for things on DVD, other than Firefly, I would wholeheartedly recommend Babylon 5. Those are my two favorite Sci Fi shows ever. I swear JMS was walking around with Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces in his back pocket the entire time he was writing B5.
