I gotsa $200 Barnes & Noble Gift Card
So, I got a $200 gift card to B&N today from my aunt. I'm spending it on the cheaper stuff on the website, with my member discount. Here's what I have so far:
Complete Works of Oscar Wilde: Stories, Plays, Poems & Essays - $22.45 Victor Hugo: Three Novels (Library of Essential Writers) - $11.65 Justine, Philosophy in the Bedroom and Other Writings by the Marquis de Sade - $17.05 Juliette by the Marquis de Sade - $19.75 The Absolute Sandman, Volume 1 by Neil Gaiman - $71.28 Subtotal: $142.18 Any suggestions for other titles I may be interested in? I'm very careful with money that isn't mine, so I'm not going to purchase anything until I get back from Florida on Tuesday.

No suggestions I just wanted to say
Excellent choice. Have you read Sandman before or is this the first time? I own all four (okay I don't technically have the fourth yet, I have to wait to unwrap it) and they really do a fantastic job on the Absolute editions.

I've read it sporadically, but never issue by issue.
I figure I'll buy this one with a gift card and get the second and third for my birthday, then just save up for the last. I'm all excited and stuff.

Everyone should have a copy of *the* American poet's work. Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass."
Probably want to get the "deathbed edition." Meanwhile, my favorite novel (that makes heavy use of Leaves of Grass) is "Specimen Days" by Michael Cunningham. He's the same guy that did "The Hours" (which is also a movie). Great literary choices! Happy reading! |

If you like Sandman I'd recomend American Gods.

And choose editions of other works wisely. Look at them carefully before purchasing, especially if they're translated works. Otherwise you may end up with an edition that you don't like for whatever reason. For example, I intensely dislike the Norton Annotated Edition of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray; I find all of the little notes Norton feels the need to provide tedious. As for translated works, the quality of translation can vary widely between editions.

Mind if I ask what makes you so drawn to the Marquis de Sade? I read 120 Days of Sodom at a friend's suggestion, and to put it lightly, I was rather disturbed (in a non-intriguing way) with his psyche.

Already own it. Not only am I a huge Gaiman fan, but it's one of my all-time favorite novels.

Also, 120 Days of Sodom probably isn't the best work for someone without a looser mindset. I'd suggest something more along the lines of Misfortunes of Virtue or Philosophy in the Bedroom. And snowy, I'm very careful with translations. I pretty much read every possible review of every edition before buying.
