Carrie Fisher's "Wishful Drinking"

Take a look at Carrie Fisher's new autobiographical book...

Isn't it a hoot?

Quote:
Finally, after four hit novels, Carrie Fisher comes clean (well, sort of ) with the crazy truth that is her life in her first-ever memoir. In Wishful Drinking, adapted from her one-woman stage show, Fisher reveals what it was really like to grow up a product of "Hollywood in-breeding," come of age on the set of a little movie called Star Wars, and become a cultural icon and bestselling action figure at the age of nineteen.
Intimate, hilarious, and sobering, Wishful Drinking is Fisher, looking at her life as she best remembers it (what do you expect after electroshock therapy?). It's an incredible tale: the child of Hollywood royalty -- Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher -- homewrecked by Elizabeth Taylor, marrying (then divorcing, then dating) Paul Simon, having her likeness merchandized on everything from Princess Leia shampoo to PEZ dispensers, learning the father of her daughter forgot to tell her he was gay, and ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed.

Wishful Drinking, the show, has been a runaway success. Entertainment Weekly declared it "drolly hysterical" and the Los Angeles Times called it a "Beverly Hills yard sale of juicy anecdotes." This is Carrie Fisher at her best -- revealing her worst. She tells her true and outrageous story of her bizarre reality with her inimitable wit, unabashed self-deprecation, and buoyant, infectious humor.
Notice, in the book cover photo, there are subtle differences between what appears to be a depressed and alcoholic/drug-dependent Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and the actual way Fisher appeared as Leia in the first Star Wars movie. (Note, it's in the costume and the hair.) I suppose it was done that way to help prevent 20th Century's and George Lucas' lawyers from suing Fisher and her book publisher?

Nerd! LOL

Sounds interesting, I'll have to check it out. I like memoirs, since it's material the author is intimately familiar with--it's fun to see how honest they can be about themselves. Everyone should read Brother Ray, whether they like Ray Charles or not--it gave me a window of understanding into the difficulties of being black in the 40's, into being blind, and into being an aspiring musician...let alone being all of them at once!

I'll have to see if the library has it; I certainly enjoyed Postcards from the Edge, and reading Carrie Fisher's own story should be good.

I'd bet that Lucas' lawyers wouldn't be able to sue based on a hairstyle. I don't think you can trademark a hairstyle, anyway.

Probably they wanted to use someone quite a bit younger than Carrie Fisher as the model on the cover to give the impression of Princess Leia and the only way to really do that is to hide her face. Now if they had used a production still--or a publicity photo of Carrie Fisher AS Princess Leia--Lucas might be able to sue.

I love it!!!! What a beautiful book cover. With all the Star Wars hints. Should be falling off the shelves...

I've asked for this one for Christmas. I love Carrie Fisher's writing style.
