Family Guy ruled. It's just a shame it was cancelled.

punx1325 07-19-2003 05:59 PM

Does anyone know if Adult Swim is ever going to play new episodes, or were they never made?

hambone 07-19-2003 09:38 PM

frankx 07-20-2003 03:58 PM

NEWSWEEK

Suddenly, 'Family Guy'

The former Fox sitcom is a new cult hit on Cartoon Network

July 14 issue - For 10 years, the late-night TV battle has raged between Jay Leno and David Letterman, but at the moment, both of them are getting whipped by a toy-factory worker from Rhode Island named Peter Griffin. (You didn't think we meant Jimmy Kimmel, did you?)

GRIFFIN IS THE star of "The Family Guy," an animated series that lasted just 49 episodes on Fox but has been reborn as a cult hit on Cartoon Network. The show-a bitingly funny send up of family sitcoms featuring a moronic patriarch, a talking dog and a diabolical, British-accented infant boy-is drawing 1 million viewers per episode-topping Leno and Letterman among 18- to 34-year-old men. "I'm not surprised," says Cartoon Network senior vice president Mike Lazzo. "This was one of the few programming no-brainers I've ever had."

It wasn't so clear cut for Fox, which kept switching "The Family Guy's" time slot before finally canceling it last year. By then, the show had amassed a small army of loyalists who'd come to adore creator Seth MacFarlane's taste for obscure pop-culture references, like the Crest Cavity Creeps and the Kool-Aid Man. (You remember-the giant glass pitcher that jumps through walls and yells, "Oh, yeah!" Ah, good times.) The show is now the linchpin of the Cartoon Network's daily "Adult Swim" TV block, and fans have rewarded the move by making it the highest-rated show in the channel's history.

Here's more good news for "Family Guy" fans. During the show's tenure on Fox, MacFarlane's team actually made 50 episodes-one never aired because it was deemed "too controversial" for advertisers. Cartoon Network hopes to air it during the next rerun cycle, which begins on Monday. The taboo subject: religion. Chances are, it's the last new episode we'll get. Lazzo is still trying to relaunch the show, but creator MacFarlane is currently tied up producing a new series. Somewhere the Kool-Aid Man is weeping.

i love LOVE that show.

i even watched the first episode, when stui was born!

Fox2020 07-21-2003 10:19 PM

Best. Show. Ever

The reason I bought the first two seasons on DVD. :)

pmb145 07-22-2003 08:28 AM

I love the show, but always get in fights with friends about it. It is not better then the Simpsons!!!!!!!

Gman 07-22-2003 09:15 AM

I think it's better than the current episodes of the Simpsons. To me, the Simpsons are getting a little played out.

The_Dude 07-22-2003 10:26 AM

every single thing that stui said was hilarious and cracked me up.

simpsons is gettin a big dragged out and right now, i'd take family guy over simpsons

wow I just had the realization that Simpons has been on since you were like 8 or so...

Brian Fellows 07-22-2003 11:36 PM

Best Cartoon Ever, if you thought the Simpsons went over the line with stuff, Family Guy went miles past the line.

Arrow 07-22-2003 11:42 PM

when are the rest of the episodes coming out on DVD?

^dude 07-23-2003 02:44 AM

Family Guy is amazing, up there with the simpsons and south park.

absorbentishe 07-23-2003 05:15 AM

Within the last month is when I finally found FG. I love this damn show! The humor is awesome. I've borrowed the box set from my friend, I just don't have enough time in the day to watch all of them.

Dang 07-23-2003 07:57 AM

The Family Guy is one of the funniest shows television has seen, but it cannot be considered among the elite had it not been for The Simpsons. I have watch far too many episoded of The Simpsons in my life and it will always eclipse other primetime cartoons based on longevity and consistency. Folks try to tell me it's no longer funny.....I say tell me of another show on T.V. worth watching for 10 plus years.

LHFire 07-23-2003 09:13 AM

the second volume of Family guy comes out in Sep. here in the states. Fox alsow registered family guy movie domain names.. which could mean a possible movie.. www.planet-familyguy.com for all the news. www.damnyouall.net for the forum.. enjoy..

Aftermath 07-23-2003 01:07 PM

I cursed Fox the day the canceled The Family Guy. I bought the box set the day it came out and will do the same for the next one. I hope I get to see the "new" episode, I work odd hours so I might miss it. = /

MPower 07-23-2003 01:55 PM

THE funniest line from the family guy: Brian "I've licked my share of peanut butter." I almost threw up laughing so hard.

hobo 07-23-2003 10:13 PM

Family Guy is the best comedy I have ever seen. It is the type of show that can cause hysterical laughter and brighten your day. Sure they made a lot of so called "controversial" jokes, but they were jokes and funny at that. They should never have cancelled that show.

lappin 07-24-2003 12:24 AM

Nothing new to say, but yes, it is quite possibly the best show ever.

dogma13554u 07-24-2003 07:15 PM

another show taken off the air before it hit it's prime. So many great gags that no one else had the balls to say elsewhere.

huuge65 07-24-2003 08:29 PM

Family Guy owns, its a shame Fox took it off the air. Well, at least Cartoon Network picked it up.

rockzilla 07-24-2003 08:37 PM

When it first came out, I rapidly dismissed Family Guy as a low-grade Simpsons clone... there's no way any other animated sitcom with a moronic father figure could compete with them when Family Guy was in it's first run. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure it was in the same 'Timeslot of Death' that befell Futurama. (7pm Sunday).

Family Guy didn't stand a chance against The Simpsons, but with The Simpsons going downhill, we need to get our fix elsewhere. I mean FG's alright, it's different than The Simpsons, but not as quite as good.

bocamper 07-24-2003 09:42 PM

Word is there are talks of somebody picking up Family Guy, but Seth McFarlane (Producer and or Creator) is working on another project. Pray it comes back, but the inside jokes are way over too many peoples heads. I think that's why it never got the following. Most of the jokes on The Simpsons are more mainstream (But I still love the show). For that reason, it will never get the ratings to warrant a pick-up, or if it does, a long run.

If it gets picked up, it may be hard to bring back the original voices (Seth Green, Mila Kulis). If it was brought back without the originals, I guess that would make for a good Dick Seargent/Dick York joke, but the show just wouldn't be the same. Let's just enjoy what has been given to us.

BTW, I hope Stewie's plans for world domination come to fruition, cause he would be a great leader! :)

stevie667 07-07-2006 02:55 AM

Well, i just watched season four of family guy yesterday after wbuying the DVD boxset.

I have never, ever laughed so hard in my life. Its so much more agressive than the previous series (i counted the word fuck on at least 4 occasions), but it certainly is funnier.

Buy it now!
