Tilted Book Swap
Some time ago I joined PaperBackSwap on the recommendation of a friend. Initially, I thought it was a great idea. Unload books I've read and don't want and replace them with books that I do want. And I also like the altruistic aspect of sharing something you have with someone else who wants/needs it. But lately I have become disenchanted with the process. Namely, it seems like the site is a bit too geared toward extracting a profit at any possible step. And the cost of just shipping one book at a time is really quite high at $2.23. So the only entity really making out from the process is the USPS. I think that for that amount of money, you'd be better off going to a used book store anyway.
It got me to thinking that perhaps some of the readers on here would be interested in setting up a Tilted book swap. I figured that we could each post a list of books that we currently own and we could browse each others selections to see if we can arrange to mail each other a small box of titles. I don't have my bookshelf in front of me, but I can update this post with the books I have right now that I'd be willing to trade. So, how about it? Any other members interested in doing some swapping? |

maybe it might be easier to set up an account on shelfari and use the books I own feature to list the ones you're willing to swap that way people have all the information about the book other than the title right there, I love that site

If you use LibraryThing, you can list books you own and also tag the ones you're willing to swap.
That's about all I can contribute here though: I'm too much of a packrat to swap :P

Alright, I'm looking into the Shelfari and LibraryThing. In the meanwhile, here is a list of books that I rapidly put together for any initial interest:
A Clash of Kings - George RR Martin A Storm of Swords - George RR Martin White Shark - Peter Benchley Burns Marks - Sara Paretsky The Fellowship of the Ring - JRR Tolkien The Return of the King - JRR Tolkien Ringworld's Children - Larry Niven Rebekah - Orson Scott Card Upside Down - John Ramsey Miller Hour Game - David Baldacci Luciano's Luck - Jack Higgins London Bridges - James Patterson Deep Storm - Lincoln Child Fatal Tide - Iris Johansen Dark Justice - Jack Higgins The Millionaires - Brad Meltzer Alone - Lisa Gardner Indelible - Karin Slaughter <EDIT> Ok, I've added the above list to a 'shelf' at Shelfari: Brian's Shelfari Owned List. I also went ahead and started a 'wish list' there if anyone wants to browse what books I am looking to read. Last edited by braisler; 11-23-2008 at 05:11 AM.. Reason: Add link |
