Invader Zim DVD

I guess there is no official invader zim DVD in the USA. I see what I assume are unofficial DVDs on Ebay and whatnot, claiming to have all the episodes.

Here's my question - is an official Zimm DVD in the works? I would buy one if there is. I'm not real excited the prospect of "stealing" money from Johnen Vasquez by buying something pirated.

What's a DVD-wanting Zimm fan to do?

Just buy the damd thing. If you feel really guilty then just John V. a peice of fanmail with twenty bucks in it. I mean it's not really rocket science. You love his media, you want his media, there is no official way to get his media, so take the grey rout and aleviate your guilt.

Paramount did a Poll on there website on what Animated Show would you most like to see in Dvd Form, They had Invader Zim, Home Movies, Angry Beavers and PJays. Invader Zim won in a land side, grabbing 60% of the vote, with somewhere along the lines of 8000 people voting for it. So maybe a Zim Dvd is closer than you think

I'll try to ask the friends that I have in Nickolodeon Consumer Products and see what they know. Paramount is usually slow out the gate with these types of things... but it's the vision of Sumner and Mel to keep it all tight.

Invader Zim on DVD

http://animatedbliss.com/news.asp?TID=1232

Quote:
New York City (November 06, 2003) – AnimeWorks is ready to rain down Zim’s doom upon the heads of animation fans everywhere with its release of Jhonen Vasquez’s Invader Zim. Anime fans have been screaming for this DVD release since Zim first aired on Nickelodeon in 2001 and now it’s finally here. Coming Spring 2004 will be the first of three double disc sets and a limited edition boxed set which promises to send fans’ blood racing through their veins like giant radioactive rubber pants. The pants command them! Invader Zim currently airs on Nicktoons, Nickelodeon’s digital home for animated hits.

“We at Media Blasters are thrilled to add Invader Zim to our powerful line-up, and expect it to be one of our flagship titles in 2004,” said John Sirabella, CEO of Media Blasters. “Zim has created quite a fan buzz in the anime community and we know that it will be a huge sensation!”

From the inventive mind of comic book creator Jhonen Vasquez, and co-executive produced by animation veteran Mary Harrington, Invader Zim focuses on a paranoid alien named Zim from planet Irk who believes he is at the forefront of a sinister plan of galactic conquest. Jhonen Vasquez is famous for such fan favorite comics as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, SQUEE!, and I Feel Sick.
Sweet Jesus. My heart explodes with joy.

Well, He and another artist made a Mini Comic called "Everthing can be Beaten" about a young man named "It" who carries around a Hammer and learns that everything can indeed, be beaten. Last I heard, he was going to start a Comic of Short Stories, much like the "Meanwhiles" he did in Johnny and Squee.

Well, they made two seasons. The first ones all aired on Nick, and I think 2-3 of the Second Season Aired on Nick, but it was canceled. The rest of the Third Season was aired in Brazil (Go figure..) There's been good and bad talk of the second season. Some of the Episodes are great, and some of them seem to be cliché and lacking the style that the previous Episodes had. This can be explained by two things. Firstly, Jhonen and Steve and the rest of the Zim crew were under alot of pressure, The Nick execs were not entirely fond of Zim and were constantly nit-picking things. In a post I read by Steve Ressel (Who was the Art Director.. I think) said that moral was low, and most of them were ready to quit rather than deal with the Censors and Nick, so the episodes suffered. Also, near the cancellation, they made a "New and Improved" Episodes that were simpler with less screaming and less complex plots. The episodes that were not aired in the United States will be on the DVDs to my understanding.

For those of you interested, Here's a list of the Episodes that were aired:

101- The Nightmare Begins (1/2 hour)
102a- Parent Teacher Night
102b- Walk of Doom
103a- Bestest Friends
103b- NanoZIM
104a- Germs
104b- Dark Harvest
105a- Attack of the Saucer Morons
105b- The Wettening
106a- Career Day
106b- Battle Dib
107a- A Room With A Moose
107b- Hamstergeddon
108a- Invasion of the Idiot Dog Brain
108b- Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy
109a- Planet Jackers
109b- Rise of Zitboy
110a- Plague of Babies
110b- Bloatys Pizza Hog
111a- Door to Door
111b- FBI Warning
112a- Bolognius Maximus
112b- Game Slave 2
113- Battle of the Planets (1/2 hour)
114- Halloween Spectacular of Spooky Doom (1/2 hour)
115a- Mysterious Mysteries
115b- Future Dib
116a- Abducted
116b- The Sad Sad Tale of Chickenfoot
117a- Megadoomer
117b- Lice
118a- G.I.R. Goes Crazy and Stuff
118b- Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom
119a- Hobo 13
119b- Walk for Your Lives
120- Tak, the Hideous New GIRL (1/2 hour)

And.. the Never Aired Episodes:

Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars (1/2 hour)
Mortos Der Soul Stealer
Zim Eats Waffles
Fry Cook(1/2 hour)
The Girl Who Cried Gnome
Vindicated!
Voting of the Doomed
Dib Ship
Gaz- Taster of Pork(1/2 hour)

This does not include "Zim's Most Horrible Christmas Ever" since it was made after the cancellation. Jhonen and company begged them to do at least a final Huurah in the form of a Christmas episodes. Which they did. Yup. I am a Cornicupa of Invader Zim info. I have too much free time.

I just hope it has some good extras. Some Commentary would make me pee my pants.

One of the guys from the Animeworks company posted on a forum saying that the Box Set would have a special disc with extras on it... which is why I must by the box set. Nothing else will suffice.

Slightly off-topic, but while I was not studying the other day I stumbled across the BEST INTERVIEW EVAR:
http://suicidegirls.com/words/Jhonen+Vasquez/

The page is SFW, although the site in general isn't.

Excerpt:
DRE: You obviously made some money from [Zim].

JV: Yeah, but it's all gone. The last thing that I wanted was to be sitting around in this pile of cash, which is what I did for way too long before deciding it was bad. I had this Hefty bag filled with cash that I would get into and have one of my slaves seal twist tie closed. I'd roll around in it, giggling and laughing like a monster baby until I was tired. But it was dirty money, dirty children money printed on the skin of flayed children. I needed to find an evil way to it so that Nickelodeon would be contributing to something unholy in the world.

DRE: What'd you spend it on?

JV: Just whores. Whores over on Sunset Boulevard and Santa Monica. Whores and robots. Some of the whores were robots.

I don't know how anyone can get this cool without cool implants.

Yeah, I read that interview whats really interesting/sad is that Jhonen considered his time spent at Nick working on Zim and the worst time in his life.

How the Hell did Todd Mcfarlane manage to get a show on HBO, and Jhonen gets a show on Nickelodeon? That's just stupid.

Fuck you Mr. Bear! You speak lies!!!!

Yea. I read that interview a while back. Suicide Girls does some great interviews. The ones I can recall off the top of my head are, of course, Jhonen, Chuck Palahniuk, Jason Shwartz and the Creator of Diesel Sweeties. Good stuff.

My favorite Quote from the Johnen Interview:

DRE: Did you have an office you had to go to when you were working for Nickelodeon?

JV: Everyday I would report to a neon green and orange building in Burbank, California with gigantic statues of The Rugrats and Hey Arnold on the top. The giant Chucky would spew molten lead at passers by and cackle insanely while Arnold would occasionally vomit out some half digested little brat who pissed off security.
