I have to agree with the idea that the fascination with fake and staged horror and manipulative music is driven by fear. There's plenty of unstaged footage from Nagasaki and Hiroshima that people don't ordinarily watch. You have to go out of your way to see it, and people generally don't. Why?
I also agree with the sentiment that the nightly news is disturbing enough. Racism, illogical analysis, gestural politics posing as substance, phony presidential "debates", monkeys in codpieces in front of "Mission Accomplished" banners... That we get much of our info via that pipe is also disturbing.
