hard question. we had this post in the entertainment forum and it was choose your top 3.

Right now, it's still Terminator 2 for the win. and then it's a mix depending on my moods but Casino is one of my favorite just like Pulp Fiction or fight club sometimes. and Right now, it sounds weird but Shoot EM Up is my favorite of the year so once i can see it on dvd, I'll know if it stays in my top 5 or top 10.

other great ones:
Spirited Away as my favorite animated movie.
Primer as my favorite WTF sci-fi movie. I've seen it 10times in less than 1 week.

REALLY? even if it wasn't a super funny movie, I kinda enjoyed Little miss sunshine. And history of violence is slow as hell but the parts that work work really well so it's like a 5/10. not a 1/10.

and Godfather as your worst movie? care to explain why? I'm curious why you dislike it so much! I usually trust your taste in movies. but this list is odd.

I've never felt so uncomfortable watching a movie and the only character I identified with basically had a breakdown towards the end. Grampa? Dead. Steve Carell? Not funny. The whole thing felt like it was trying to be indy. My step brother loved it.

I couldn't take it seriously. From Howard Shore's pseudo Lord of the Rings soundtrack (listen to it, you'll get it), to some of the most stale acting and goofy cliches. Whoa! The bad guy has a scar and a bad eye! Scary! Also the fight scenes were among the worst I've ever seen.

Massively overrated. Yes, everyone thinks the mob is interesting, but that doesn't mean that you've gotta love overacting, italian cliches, poor writing, misrepresentation of what the mod really is like and such. The directing was good, and there were a few decent actions scenes, but the fact that so many people claim it's one of the best movies ever made makes the whole thing stink for me. If it were mediocre, as it is, and everyone said it was mediocre, it wouldn't be on my worst list. It's the fact that people worship the movie like Scarface (another horrible movie) that gets to me.

IMHO.

Ustwo 10-11-2007 08:43 AM

This is a tough list to create. I agree with ziadel. It could change daily.
No particular order:

Casablanca
Gladiator
Saving Private Ryan
The Godfather I and II
Defending Your Life (written and starring Albert Brooks-very funny)

I was going to include To Kill a Mockingbird, but I think I enjoy the movie so much because I love the book.

MexicanOnABike 10-11-2007 03:51 PM

will: fair enough. I still don't think the godfather is the best movie ever but part 2 was WAY better than the 1st. (flash backs with deniro). and yes, overrated a bit.

And i agree on those other points for the other movies. except for the gun scenes in history of violence. those I thought were damn well made for the realism.

I enjoy Bogart movies. I especially like The Big Sleep, though it's mostly incoherent. Singing in the Rain is a great movie too. You can't go wrong with Gene Kelly. Donald O'Connor is good in that movie as well.

Grasshopper Green 10-16-2007 05:49 PM

Gone With the Wind
The Full Monty
Good Will Hunting
Coal Miners Daughter
The Shawshank Redemption

It's too bad Band of Brothers is a miniseries or it would be number one on my list.
