Donnie Darko
United 93
Hard Candy
Pleasantville
Dr Strangelove

___

EDIT:

Donnie Darko
United 93
Der Untergang
Hard Candy
Pleasantville

...

I actually broke up with someone indirectly because they said they couldnt sit through Der Untergang because it was subtitled and it should have been dubbed.

I mean, I didnt dump them cos they said that Im not that much of a cunt, but it affected how I thought of her a lot. To me I dont think it is possible to love someone capable of saying and believing such a thing.

It always annoyed me that they put it out over here as "Downfall" too... completely innappropriate.

I've never understood why people like this movie. Personally I thought it was one of the biggest loads of shit I've ever paid good money to see in theatre.

Any way my top five currently are (in no order)
Apocalypse Now
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Big Lebowski
The Empire Strikes Back (Star Wars would be in my top ten and Jedi would top fifteen)
Casablanca

one of these things is not like the others,
one of these things doesn't belong :)

to name just 5 is damn near impossible, but ill name 5 of my favs:

I could put just about every John Carpenter movie on the list, as well as about 100 other random greats, but that will have to do. Should have had us list 5 in each genre at least.

It's a good movie. good twist unless you TRY to ruin movies everytime you see them. good acting and some awesome scenes. even if you didn't like some parts, it's not a bad movie. not even close!!

A bit off topic, but I also can't stand dubbed movies. Other comments I have heard from friends and colleagues that bother me:

"I don't watch black and white movies because they are too boring".

"Why are those black bars on the top and bottom of the movie? Couldn't you have rented a full-screen version?"

  1. Shawshank Redemption. Has been for years. Simple story that was executed perfectly in my opinion.
  2. Memento. Brilliant and clever. The original short story that the movie is based on can be found as an easter egg on the special edition dvd and is very interesting when you read it. Check it out if you can, adds another element to the movie.
  3. Godfather 1 & 2. Can't seperate the two, they need each other.
  4. Usual Suspects. Kevin Spacey owns. Sly and clever, one of the few movies that literally left me stunned after the first viewing.
  5. Clerks. The funnest and funniest movie I've seen. Just hilarious.

I'll give it a try. Just five, huh?

1. Shawshank Redemption
2. The Illustrated Man
3. To Kill A Mockingbird
4. Fargo
5. Imitation of Life

As for Fight Club, I don't care much for violence and gore. But how can you not love the words of Chuck Palahniuk: "God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. " His novels are very interesting, to say the least.

The Phantom of the Opera [2004]
The Crow
Dragonheart
Poltergeist
Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

I actually have a list of 30 movies and it was hard to limit it.
