Ive heard about these movies for some time, and am wondering if they are as good as everyone says they are.

Any thoughts?

I haven't seen the other two, but The Thing is a great movie. In my opinion it's Carpenter's best film. The creature effects alone are worth the purchase price. It's one of those movies that really didn't get enough recognition.

Yah, I just rented all three on VHS....couldnt find the DVD's. Will watch them tonight and maybe post if I feel like it.

There all good if you ask me. But out of the 3 Prince Of Darkness is my favorite.

The Thing is awesome! I highly recommend it!

I don't recall seeing in the Mouth of Madness.

As already stated all 3 are great films, I personally like the Thing and In the Mouth of Madness (underrated film) the best, Prince of Darkness was good too.

To this day the Thing gets mention, but it's the In the Mouth of Madness that is be overlooked alot.

You called it an apocolyptic trilogy, so is it about the Apocolypse? Other than that, I know nothing about these films. Or Carpenter. Is he the director? Actor? Give us an idea of the genre and style, and what draws you to a particular movie. It will give me, the uninitiated and unwashed, a feel for why you like this work. It will also, perhaps, convince me to go and get it.

I've never seen them. John Carpenter is the director, he calls them his Apocolyptic Trilogy, I have no idea.

I believe they are all horror films. A simple google search can tell you the plot lines.

Just finished watching The Thing.

Awesome, awesome film!! A classic who-done-it with some very tense moments.

I think they way the movie ended, was apocolyptic. I dont want to spoil it for anyone who hasnt seen it, but an apocolypse seems appropriate.

Like most people, I've only ever seen The Thing... which is funny, because working where I do, I could watch the other two anytime I feel like it, but I agree that it's probably Carpenter's best. Except for maybe Halloween or They Live, anyway.:D

I love John Carpenter. Along with Michael Mann, he's probably my favorite director. I'm not usually one to get all gushy about directors, I usually watch films for the acting. However, these two I think have a style that is all their own, and stand out for me. When you're done with those three, try to find Assault on Precinct 13.

I loved The Thing. A great movie that was way ahead of its time. Had it been released today, it would have received way more recognition.

Mitch Hedberg rocks. "I haven't slept for 10 days... because that would be too long."

Turned off Prince Of Darkness halfway through. What a crock of shit.

In The Mouth Of Madness...was.....odd. Its not really that great, but a neat storyline.

The Thing is a classic, only really matched by Alien (not the sequels)

Prince of Darkness had its good moments, and was an overall good story, lotsa classic "make ya jump" type horror

In the Mouth of Madness was horrible in my opinion, mainly because Sam Neill is terrible, and because somehow a great concept got turned into a very run of the mill horror movie.

The Thing is a classic. Prince of Darkness scared the crap out of me when I was younger. Make sure you rent They Live at some point. It is worth watching just for the fight scene in the parking lot.

I think they are releasing a special addition Assault on Precinct 13 on dvd.

That fight scene has been recognized as the longest fight scene ever in the history of American film. A must see.

I read recently that somebody is planning a remake of Assault on Precinct 13......I'm sure it'll be terrible.

yep the Thing is class but the other two aint up to much carpenter has made better than these by far.

And perfectly parodied in South Park (Cripple fight!).

Out of the three mentioned, I've only seen The Thing, which is a favorite flick of mine. Carpenter's a great director, with movies like Assualt of Precinct 13, Escape from New York, Halloween, The Fog, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing under his belt, he's in my top five favorite directors list.
