Stardust

Anyone else looking forward to Stardust?
http://www.stardustmovie.com/

I am a huge Neil Gaiman fan and next to Sandman this is probably my favorite of all his stories.
My only worry is that with all the mega huge blockbuster movies that are coming out this year that Stardust will get lost in the shuffle.

Willravel 07-18-2007 03:54 PM

Right now, I'm sorta feeling like I'd rather watch the live action movie Rockie and Bullwinkle or Juwanna Man. Just to be honest.

Cynthetiq 07-18-2007 04:01 PM

I have screener passes for this tomorrow night. I'll post my thoughts tomorrow.

I don't know much about this movie other than it was offered to me for free, no cellphones, no children, no cost, so it already has alot going for it.

Halx 07-18-2007 04:59 PM

The first preview I saw for it made it look terrible, then the second preview made it look amazing. Then the third I saw made it look terrible again.

But I still wanna see it.

I gotta admit I hate you just a little bit right now

I'm interested. I'm expecting that it will have a pretty short theater run, and I'll end up renting it. I liked (but didn't love) the book; I have a hard time remembering the details of it.

Stardust 9/10
Wasn't what I expected, and I had no expectations. It was a nice modern twist to the prince coming of age mythos. Really enjoyed it alot. I recommend it.

I think it will be a sleeper family hit.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. It really is the movie that I've been waiting for this summer so to hear that someone with zero expectations really enjoyed it makes me just all that much more excited.

I'm looking forward to this. I like Gaiman's writing. Though, I expect it might not make it to my neck of the woods, since I live in a small town.

robot_parade 08-02-2007 02:14 PM

I want to make sweet love to this movie, and I haven't even seen it yet.

That is all.

guy44 08-02-2007 08:48 PM

Meeeeh...I dunno. Neil Gaiman, to me, is one of those authors that is too special to allow Hollywood to get a hold of. I'm just too worried they will utterly destroy his great books/stories in the process of transferring them to the big screen. And when there's this A-list cast, that means it couldn't have fallen through the cracks and avoided the suits (to paraphrase Entourage).

Also, there is no possible way it can be as good as Mirror Mask. Just. Not. Possible.

robot_parade 08-03-2007 07:48 PM

guy44: Well, fwiw, Gaiman himself really likes the movie...of course, you could argue that he almost has to say that, but...

We'll see how it is in a few days. :-)

Gaiman has been involved in the production and although changes to the book have been made both Gaiman and Charles Vess (the original illustrator) have been said to be happy with them.
The one thing I'm really curious to find out is if Tori Amos does the voice of the tree.

m0rpheus 08-10-2007 11:41 PM

So I went to see it tonight and all I can say is WOW. It totally lived up to my hopes and though they did change things from the book (obviously) I was okay with most of the changes. I enjoyed it from start to finish and really can't speak highly enough of it.
BTW Deniro is awesome as Captain Shakespeare.

Val_1 08-12-2007 07:05 AM

Stardust was amazing. It was so good. The film looked great, all the acting was top notch, and it was much much funnier than I had expected. Ricky Gervais's cameo was so funny I almost peed myself. I would recommend it to anyone.

LoganSnake 08-12-2007 07:31 AM

I'm seeing this today. I haven't heard of the movie until my girlfriend said that she wants me to come see it with her and her cousin last week. Then I saw the trailer and it actually looks pretty cool. I'll tell you how it is when I come back from the theater.

EDIT: Just came back from it and I must say I liked it quite a lot. It was an excellent mix of humor, fantasy and action. DeNiro's role was fantastic, the entire audience loved it. I'm getting this on DVD for sure.

guy44 08-31-2007 02:44 PM

Well, I finally saw the movie and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and pretty much wrong. Listen to Gaiman - the trailers are terrible, but the movie is a very entertaining mix of action, solid story-telling, and a sort of watered down version of Princess Bride's winking, tongue-in-cheek humor. Go see it!

Can't believe I forgot to post in this thread!

Stardust was great :) Quite an enjoyable movie. I had only to complaints and that is 1) some cuts were rather abrupt and 2) the music they played over the credits at the end was a bad choice. Other than that, I was thoroughly pleased!

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Agree completely with problem #2. My friends and I were giggling uncontrollably at that horrible end credits music. It was really, really unfortunate.

I watched this last night with my wife and two daughters (11 and 15). Everyone enjoyed it a lot; we all were reminded to a degree of The Princess Bride. I've never read the book, so I don't know how it compares, but I will definitely be owning this when it hits DVD.
