Pirate Master (CBS) Discussion Thread
http://www.cbs.com/primetime/pirate_master/
So CBS is soon starting a Survivor-ish show based on Pirates. Are they hoping for some Pirates of the Carribbean hype to fuel it or is this a potentially cool show? I'm on the fence, but will definately watch the first episode to see if it "hooks" me. Anyone else interested in this?

As a reality TV show, this is a bad idea. As a morally ambiguous drama featuring a talented cast of actors and writers, a la The Shield or The Sopranos, it would be absolutely brilliant and CBS would be able to support NCIS, Jericho, CSI. The problem, of course, is that I'm brilliant and sitting here, and the marketing geniuses at CBS are idiots and are there.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought the first episode blew. And they might as well not even have a host, because the one they've got has about as much personality a charisma as a mop. This one gets one more watch from me, and if it doesn't improve dramatically, then I'm out. And I don't hold out much hope based on the previews for next week.

I was terribly disappointed, especially since I was really looking forward to it. Grancey and I think it was geared more toward people who want to see more arguments and confrontations than Survivor.
Probably won't watch another one.

I'm reeally dissapointed as well, I thought the guy that got thrown off was a complete and utter tard, the captain guy underwent a complete transformation into tardness, and half the people on the show we weren't introduced to.
The whole idea of 'i'm stealing the compasses' seemed very fake to me, like it was suggested by the producers. If I was on of the Pirate crew I would have gone and given him a good solid bonk on the head and took the compasses back. If they can be taken so easily, then it makes sense that they can be taken back. Overall I was very unimpressed and I usually love any reality shows....

This show needs to be keel-hauled.
It seems it was more t&a than anything. And you're right. I usually like Cameron Daddo, but he was a dud as a host.

I'm serious. A pirate drama would do VERY well so long as they had good writing. People love gritty morally ambiguous television right now. I think the Shield will be over before too long, can you imagine Captain Mackey? The Sopranos will be done soon (or has it already? I stopped watching, it got boring), so there'll be plenty of writers looking for work.
