Twin Peaks (The Second Season)

It looks like Twin Peaks "The Second Season" is finally coming out on DVD on April 10 and can be pre-ordered from Amazon.

I'd love to see this. I'm not a huge fan of David Lynch's movies, but there's something about Twin Peaks that I can't get enough of.

oh kick ass, I can't wait!

Twin Peaks was a bit before my time, but I thoroughly enjoyed the DVDs of the first season. Have never seen the second season, so I'm really looking forward to this.

I finally got the second season and I swear it's such a disappointment -I don't remember it being as bad as it is... I'm having a tough time watching it...

Mal, in what way did the 2nd season go bad? I was a huge Peak's fan and would rather save the memory than ruin it.

Thanks for the head's up.

Well, the whole episode came off the rails after Laura's killer was revealed. They built steam back up into the finale episode, but there were several episodes in the middle there where they were off on some useless Pine Weasel tangent. Although I did enjoy Billy Zane and David Duchovney.

I'm beginning to recall that season. Didn't Lynch pull out of the series at some point? Either way, it did go beyond the usual weirdness of the program.

It did get even stranger than than the first season. At the time it was on the air I was living in Seattle and used to ride my bike often to Snoqulamie Falls. I don't think the plot of Twin Peaks was a very good reason to watch it, but rather the weirdness of Lynch and the quirky characters. I couldn't ride through the little towns in the Cascade foothills without thinking about it.

Heh... Hub and I stopped at the cafe every week before hitting the slopes, and a couple times a year we had breakfast at the lodge. Gotta love that coffee.

Northern Exposure had the same effect in the area.

Lynch never really left. He directed several key episodes (the season opener, one where the killer is revealed, the series finale, and several leading up to the finale), and continued writing--though not actual screenwriting in most cases--for the entire series.

That is very typical of any showrunner/executive producer. They are involved in the overall series but only write and direct some of the episodes (think about how many episodes in the XFiles or Buffy were written or directed by Chris Carter or Joss Whedon). The series was canceled, it wasn't that Lynch left.

Lynch was facing increasing pressure from the studio heads to reveal Laura's murderer and by all accounts he lost interest in the project during the second season.
