I'd just like to say that I'm leaning towards wanting Jim to come to his senses and stay with the hotness that is Karen, and let this forbidden fruit Pam business blow over.

Do you honestly think Jim would be happier with Karen 20 years down the road? First of all, she won't always be that hot... but besides the superficial reasons, Jim and Pam just fit together. They are best friends, which is why the story is so intriguing to watch and works so well... if you've ever had feelings for a good friend, you know how conflicting it is and how long it takes for things to work themselves out.

Personally, I like that Jim is with Karen right now... I think she adds another dimension to the JAM storyline, and it's interesting to see how she deals with JAM's history, but we all know it won't last... just like Pam and Roy didn't last in last season.

Yeah, I hear you, and I know that I'm apparently in the minority. I don't think any of us can predict 20 years down the line; but I've found that those little friend crushes usually don't end up well romantically. If Karen is that hot for 10 years, that's a bargain But she's also sharp, and she went balls out to take a shot with Jim. I think that speaks pretty well for her...and after a certain point, I think being happy with someone for 20 years is as much act of choice as it is any sort of "destiny."

Like Pigglet, I too believe that Jim should be focused on Karen. At least until Sweeps and finale time anyway. Of course he and Pam should get together in the end, but if imagine for a second that Jim was TFP member JAM2GETHER4EVER and posted in Tilted Sexuality about his Situation:

Quote:

Post: I don't know how I got into this situation and I don't want to bore you with too many details, but I'm feeling pretty stuck. I've been lurking for awhile now, but I need your help TFP! I long pined for the girl of my dreams (I'll call her Jenna) but she was engaged to another. I finally told her how I felt but she said I was her "best friend" and that we couldn't be together like that. Oh, yeah. Did I mention we work together? Anyways, I was pretty bummed. Once you get the "Friend" label, there's nothing to do. An opportunity came up for a transfer out of my office so I jumped at it, hoping to move on and distance myself from the pain.

At the new office I met another girl. (here I'll call her Rashida) and she's beautiful and confident. Maybe I just fell into the relationship and maybe it was a matter of convenience, but I've developed some strong feelings for her. Everything was going fine until the two branches suddenly merged into the old office. Not only am I now back where I started, working in close quarters with both women, but Jenna is no longer engaged! I really feel for my new girlfriend, but I can't shake those old feelings for Jenna from before. Did she break off the wedding because of me? It depresses me to realize that I may never know.

I think I still want to be with Jenna but I don't want to hurt Rashida's feelings - she did move here to be with me after all. What should I do? How can I stay true to Rashida without losing Jenna?
Okay, that's some awful fanfic right there, but when you put the details together, it makes Jim sound a bit pathetic. Not Ryan pathetic, but even still.

If he were to post about his situation, I imagine most would tell him to take decisive action one way or another. Either ditch Pam and be true to his current girlfriend, or break Karen's heart and take his lumps.

I lean towards the former. Pam sends mixed signals and the writers are slowly but surely revealing Karen's attractive attributes; singing at the wedding for example. The more we see of Karen's positive traits, the more Jim looks like a douche.

I'd rather they make Jim aloof and focus on Pam's storyline as the forlorn outsider.

I can't believe how much I just wrote about this.

Fresnelly - I'm so with you on everything but the "of course, they (Jim and Pam) should eventually get together. The only way that should happen is if they write me into the plot, and I take Rashida Jones off and do wonderful things with her, and her personality is similar to that of her character. While we're at it, she puts me on allowance which is always more than I can spend, all I do is play banjo and work out every day and use recreational drugs, and we sit around and laugh about that Jim guy - who was great and funny and is my favorite character - who ended up with Pam - also a great person - in a trailer park in scranton. rashida and i are living in the islands at this point.

i really like that idea. think she'd go for it?

The physical comedy in last nights episode I thought was brilliant. I was a little drunk by the time I got to watch it (had a few beers with the boys), but I was laughing my ass off. Jim showing vampiric symptoms was hillarious.

After the last two episodes, I really wish they'd pull Michael's seeming imbalance and idiocy back a little bit. His conduct a the wedding, seemingly with little consequence from the people around him, and the sheer stupidity he displayed in the talk for the class make me much less interested in his character.

I've been pondering the commentary on the small business vs. the national / international chain businesses, and what statement the writers are making about the management of the small business world. I'm curious if they're going to end the show with D-M closing its doors, and if that closing will be attributed to crazy managerial styles like Michael? Do we want a less efficient, but more personal world or not? These types of things.

I don't know, I think Michael's best moments are when he's thwarted or offended in some way, and momentarily recognizes himself as absurd. At the wedding, he never had that moment of self-reflection, and just kept getting bigger and weirder. At Business School, he did, and he reacted to it as only Michael could. I find Michael much funnier when he's doing what he did at the end of his "lecture"... stomping up the steps yelling "Suck on THAT!"

Right! It's not going to last with Roy. She knows it. He was just putting on "caring sweet boyfriend" to get back in. "I brought my brother and nobody from work showed up. Pretty cool."... Jackass. You can't POINT OUT the points you're scoring. That's NEGATIVE points!

I can't believe no one has mentioned the end of the episode with Michael and Pam!!! That was one of the best/most emotional moments in Office history. The writers of this show really know how to make Michael absurd up until the point where it's ridiculous and then bring him back down to a humanistic level where he is actually capable of human interaction. He made Pam's night and was the kindest person who went to the art show. On top of that, his interest in her art was genuine, showing again his personality and emotional elements.

Michael throwing the candy bars at the students had me laughing out loud, but the very best part of the episode was the end with Michael and Pam.

I liked the episode a lot. The lecture was classic. Ryan's build up before the lecture was a great touch.

Pam's art show was frustrating, though, for a few reasons. First off, Jim didn't show up. We know that a) Pam wished Jim was there, and b) Jim probably really wanted to go, and had to force himself not to. We were all waiting for him to show up, right? And then..... it's Michael instead. Michael might have been supportive, but he's an idiot, which helps explain why he liked her crappy art. Which brings me to my next point...

I was really sad to see that Pam's art did, indeed, suck. I've been assuming that she's this incredibly talented artist, and she's just under appreciated. I was hoping this would be the time where Jim comes through as the only one to see the beauty in it. But, he wasn't there, and the art was crappy anyway. I wanted this to be Pam's moment of secret glory, or something. Instead, we just see that's she's as lonely as ever.

But the best part was, by far, Jim's vampiric transformation. Ha, when he peered back over his raised collar, looking like Nosferatu, I was dying. Dwight's comment of "One crisis at a time" was perfect Dwight. And Jim having the foresight to cover himself from the light as he's walking across the parking lot was fantastic.

I loved that part too... although it was hard for me to watch because when Pam hugged him I kept thinking that Michael was going to ruin it by assuming Pam was hitting on him. But since that didn't happen, the scene was definitely awesome and memorable. It was also good to see it followed up by Michael hanging the painting in the office for everyone to see.

Aren't the deleted scenes supposed to not be considered part of the show? Some of the deleted scenes change the entire show, so I heard they weren't to be included in any Office plotlines.

same for me, I couldn't see most of them. but in 1 scene you see Karren in the kitchen where Pam's art page is posted, and she goes to rip it down when she sees Jim. so i bet with Pam being so busy, she didn't tell Jim and he didn't see it because Karren removed it from the wall. she's Psycho to do that!

Tomorrow night is Cocktails, and one of the storylines involves Michael and Jan outting their relationship, which will undoubtedly bring about some very awkward moments.

The last three shows have been pretty Michael-heavy. Some people like that, and others don't. To each their own. I think that the sweeps eps will most likely be pretty JAM heavy, and I really like that.

JJ Abrams (of Alias and Lost fame) directed this episode, so to have that cliffhanger seemed really appropriate.

I thought it was a really well done episode. Michael was awkward, yet subdued, Dwight was out and out hilarious. I thought the JAM progress was great, and I'm glad that the RAM seems to be done for now. But I mean, we thought Jim and Karen were done after Jim admitted he still had feelings for Pam. And they weren't. So who knows what could happen.

At least 4 weeks till the next new Office. It is going to be a long, long drought of Officelessness.
