This episode, "Five Years On", was the best hour I've seen on television in I don't know how long. Even for Heroes, this was an extraordinary episode.
|
I have yet o watch an episode of Heores, but after finding an online stream of the show, I will watch the eighteen or so episodes in order to provide a healthy discussion point in future posts. See you Heroes fans in a couple of days, and be kindly receptive to any confusion or question I may have about the story, characters, etc.
Onward to Episode 1! :D |
Spoiler: But that guy in the comic that Mohinder gave present Hiro....was that Peter he's stabbing with the sword? Isn't Peter the one that blows up? Hiro would kill him in New York the day after the election, right?
I really didn't think this episode would be any good. It felt like the filler to fill all fillers, but it turned out to be pretty damn awesome. As much as they've built up to the death of Sylar, I can't imagine the reality is even going to come close to satisfying. |

The picture in the comic book looked a lot like nathan to me.....

Peter has to win his fight with future Syler. If not he will open up Hiro's brain and travel all over the timeline messing things up regardless of what fixes they manage to make. I doubt they address this but it is a cool paradox situation. |

Time travel in Heroes is a very iffy endever. With Hiro and Charlie, she had learned japanese from a person that left her a book of japanese phrases. And when Hiro goes back in time to save her, he gives Charlie a japanese phrase book. So that means that she learned that language from Hiro in the first place, but no one recognizes him when Hiro arrives in the present (the day that Sylar kills her), and when he returns after having failed to warn her about "the brain man". Especially since Hiro worked there bussing tables for a few months!
And for a moment, when I first saw future Clarie as a brunette, I thought it was Amanda Bines from the show, What I Like About You :) |
Quick question: Has it ever been established that Sylar can take powers from dead people?

Although I suspect it wasn't the right time (and possibly the right person, who knows, now there's three potential human nukes, although wait, Syler would have to kill the original nuke dude to be able to be a nuke himself), I was frustrated that even after seeing Isaac mangled on the floor, and after what happened to his love Charlie the Memory Girl, Hiro still wasn't able to do what needed to be done.
And yeah, it doesn't seem that Syler was able to take Eve's power of persuasion after she blew her brains out. What a lovely relationship Syler had with his mother, eh? I failed to feel *any* sympathy for his character at all, although I'm not sure that's what was intended. I think it would have been kinda funny though if even though Syler took Isaac's ability to paint the future, that he wasn't anywhere as near as good as Isaac (Isaac being a painter before all this happened), and that the ominous figures Syler painted were like stick figures and stuff! I wondered why they did not include Syler in the Larry King Live interview. I think that sucks, and I'd have really enjoyed seeing him with the rest of the cast. |

Well this last episode wasnt too exciting, but it needed it to set up the coming events. The next two episodes are going to be mind blowing, and I suspect the next week ending is going to make for one looong week! I am getting frustrated with Hiro. I really wish he would grow some balls and stop acting like such a wuss. And how was sylar able to "un freeze" when Hiro stoped time?... was his power a bit weaker as when he was getting the sword and could only slow time down?.. too many questions... too little time.

On a sidenote, where did Sylar gain the ability to freeze and ice things over? :orly: |
Are you guys reading the comic online?
It fills in a few blanks and shows how some characters came in. http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/ |

One of the questions that I have is, the very first time Hiro transported to the "future" and saw Isaac dead, I could've swore that he was all iced up, yet Sylar didn't use his freeze powers on Isaac in the "current time". |

Just finished watching this week's episode. It was both eventful and uneventful at the same time. The story is coming together brilliantly, with so many possible cliffhangers for the last episode of the season.
I can't wait for the season finale! Anyone know how long the break between this season and the next is? |

I can't wait for the finale, yet I'm upset that after next week there will be no new episodes until next season. It's been a few years since I've been this hooked on a show, so I hope the withdrawal isn't too bad! Spoiler: Am I the only one who suspects Sylar's freezing power is going to play a part in bringing him down during the battle with Peter? Something that has bothered me since it occurred: Peter has super-hearing. Are they ever going to acknowledge that he gained this power from Sylar? How come he hasn't discovered it yet? |
There's a lot of abilities that Peter could've picked up from Sylar that he doesn't know about besides the super hearing, like the photographic memory, and the ability to liquefy solid objects.
|
Or the most frightful ability of all, to see how things work. Mwa hahahaha :)
|
Hiro's character has gotten real annoying in the past few episodes. What a f'n wuss. He used to be one of my favorites but now I find him to be lame.
Also, I felt Sylar is getting to powerful and the fact that he was sop easily able to get Ted was disappointing. |
Sylar is so powerful because he stole the quick learning power from the cafe worker. That is why he is able to use his powers so much better than the people who actually had the power originally. He learns to control it quicker. If only Peter realized Sylar had this power he could use it too.
I realized a hole in the story last night. The girl who can look like anyone does not shape shift as she said she makes people see what she wants. Suggesting that she has some sort of illusion power. This was used when Micah tried to run. This suggests that she alters peoples minds to make them see other things. If this were the case wouldn't recorded material still show the original image, thus future Sylar as Nathan would not work because everyone would see him as Sylar when they saw him on TV. So next season is going to run all new characters right? That suggests that this season will not have any huge cliff hangers relating to these characters as they won't be in next season to resolve them. |

I wouldn't take the "all new characters" idea too literally. Successful productions don't just dump their entire casts. We have the term "Jumped the shark" for this very reason.
I imagine that a core of this season's most popular and attractive cast members will survive the cliff hanger to form the heart of next season's storyline. Can you honestly imagine NBC dropping a commodity like Claire or Hiro from the show? Besides, someone has to unite and mentor the disparate newcomers. A natural storyline has Nathan elected and the survivors from this season fighting for social and political rights a la X-Men. (Bleh) I also expect the resurgence of Eric Roberts' Anti-mutant government agency under some new creep's guidance. Have the producers really stated that they are going to replace the entire cast? |
So, it looks like the League of Geriatric Mutants (Linderman, Mama Patrelli, etc.) have been trying to breed mutants with higher power levels. i.e. Jessica + DL = Micha
So does that mean that Sen. Patrelli's wife has some kind of latent powers and even if she does, what about his kids? |

Oh, SURELY our favorites from Season 1 will be making plenty of appearances. But I could see us picking up the new season with an all-new storyline with some new or lesser-known characters.
|
I think it would be better that way. If they keep the cast intact, it would end up like Twin Peaks. Great show, until we finally figured out who killed Laura Palmer. Then, there was no point in watching anymore.
Somehow, I don't think watching them try to figure out what to do now that they've saved the world would be as interesting. Even if they did create a us-vs-them type of storyline, I think it would mirror too much of what The 4400 is doing now (get your free Promecin here!!!!!) |
I thought the final battle between Sylar and Peter Petrelli would have been a little more action packed, but it was a bit of a let down..
Heroes season 1 went surprisingly well since most season 1 shows take an entire season just for character development (like Lost).. |
Man, the scene back at Nakamura Enterprises was BRILLIANT. They got right up to the line of corny overly-sincere hero-talk, and then smashed that all to bits with goofy Hiro-and-Ando geekery. It was beautiful! That RIGHT THERE is why I love this show.
|
My only disappointment is that Syler is still alive. To me, that A: undercuts Hiro's accomplishment and B: is a cheap cliche. He's a dick and I wanted him dead.
Am I the only one who was hoping that back in ancient Japan, when Hiro turned his gaze up to the looming shadow, he'd see a giant spaceship? Season one has set a fine standard. Here's to the next one. |

That being said - how DID he get away? You saw the blood trail to the sewer. Then what was that . . .slime? I don't understand. Also disappointed by the fight with Peter. I think if you have the powers that Peter and Syler have, the person who uses them most creatively would ultimately win. No real reason that Peter could not stop time, catch his breath and jack up Syler. There are a million and one ways he could win if he just thought about it. Coincidentally, I always think that the Green Lantern suffers from similar creativity problems. |
I don't think Sylar's alive. It looks like somebody or something dragged him down into the sewer. Maybe it was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or something.
|
I forgot about the new and last episode of this season.
/me excuses himself to go watch "Heroes" now. |
