What is the BEST program on Broadcast TV?

MY vote goes for FOX Network's "24". It's the only TV
program I yell at when Jack Bauer needs help and his
people can't help him fast enough. (Will get that movie
on DVD (The Sentential) when it comes out. Keefer
Sutherland is perfect for this role as super slick
Anti-Terrorist JACK BAUER and he makes me hope there are
real men like him in our C.I.A.,F.B.I.,N.S.A. and all
the other ORGs. that are supposed to be doing their jobs
in Washington.

What regular Broadcast TV show do you vote for?

Brewmaniac 05-09-2006 07:12 PM

24 is the only thing I watch on a regular basis. TV mostly sucks!

Moskie 05-09-2006 07:19 PM

I've gotta say the best right now is Grey's Anatomy. Other than the fact that it shoves its themes down your throat sometimes, it's been the one show I've watched that's remained solid through every episode.

It's created a great set of characters, with some you really like, and some you really hate, but they're all interesting. The show's taken its time with developing them, and it isn't afraid to take chances either: instead of just hinting at something like two characters getting together (like some shows do), it actually has it happen. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't, but at least they follow through on it.

24 would have been my answer a couple seasons ago... but it's run its course for me.

fresnelly 05-09-2006 07:44 PM

Right now for me, I'd say The Office.

I like its deadpan style of satire, and the fine line it walks between humour and drama.

The delicacy with which they're progressing Michael and Pam's relationship is fantastic. I love writer driven TV.

RIP Arrested Development.

Willravel 05-09-2006 08:11 PM

Boston Legal is the best on broadcast TV, IMHO. The writing is amazing, the music is really stupid, the acting is uncanny, the directing is way better than most. William Shatner = God.

Fremen 05-09-2006 10:21 PM

For me, it's The Unit, but Boston Legal and Dr. Who are right up there near it.

kentucky_lady 05-09-2006 10:31 PM

most anything on discovery channel.

God of Thunder 05-10-2006 02:27 AM

My favorites right now are:

Boston Legal
Desperate Housewives
Grey's Anatomy

And my absolute favorite...My Name is Earl!!

You mean JIM and Pam's relationship, right? Or am I totally missing a subplot here.

I'll give my vote to the Office and Grey's Anatomy as well. I've also been a huge West Wing fan for years and I'm really sad to see it go, its been great this season. Prison Break is a weekly addiction of mine as well.

Derwood 05-10-2006 05:15 AM

Outside of Reality shows (to which I'm addicted) my favorite show is House

Discovery is not broadcast, it's cable.

Broadcast consists of the Big 6, ABC/NBC/CBS/WB/UPN/FOX which WB/UPN will be merging in the near future.

I'm very much into 24 myself, having been given a hiatus for a bit, I'm very behind so and I have laid them all on to DVD so I'll have to catch up one of these days.

Bill O'Rights 05-10-2006 05:43 AM

I like NCIS and CSI. The original CSI, not Miami or New York. Although...I will watch CSI Miami just to see how bad David Caruso's acting is this week. It's so bad that it's comedic. Seriously...how does that man get any work?

Redlemon 05-10-2006 06:00 AM

The only things I watch on broadcast stations are Lost, The Office, and My Name Is Earl.

But for kid's shows, you gotta check out the PBS show Peep and the Big Wide World, narrated by Joan Cusack.

Latch 05-10-2006 06:03 AM

House

It's the only one I actively look forward to. Even the NCIS 2-part season finale doesn't have me that hooked. And Lost.. I think I just watch that out of habit now :)

The Office and Earl are pretty good, but House is the big one for me.

Whoops! You're right of course. As for Pam and Michael, now THAT would make for unconventional TV.

Another great example of the deft writing on The Office, was in last week's episode:

Dwight goes on a rampage concerning Jim's practical jokes, and the two sit down as the HR guy reads them all off. Each one is more hilarious than the last, so you laugh at uptight-Dwight. But as the list goes on and on, you begin to see how truly pathetic Jim's existence is in the office. Jim realizes it too, and at the end of the scene, he and Dwight have reached some sort of sombre endgame. Phenomenal!

Daval 05-10-2006 06:20 AM

OMG, I can't believe I missed House, that is right up there in my top 3!

I agree, that scene was awesome. Was last weeks episode the season finale? Maybe we should start an office thread.

shakran 05-10-2006 06:28 AM

Frontline.

fresnelly 05-10-2006 06:29 AM

This week is the Office's finale.

I'd say start a thread, but I don't know if it's worth it until next season is closer.

Maybe I'll PM you with my thoughts after it airs :D

YaWhateva 05-10-2006 08:17 AM

House, M.D.

CSflim 05-10-2006 10:42 AM

The Sopranos. Hands down. Absolutely no question about it. Nothing comes close.

JustJess 05-10-2006 11:21 AM

I'm completely crazy about Grey's Anatomy. I just love that show. Love it. Season Finale next Sunday and Monday, and I am depressed. :(

I also enjoy Boston Legal and House, and Bones, actually. I still watch Charmed (shut up, I know it's cheesy), but it will be gone soon.

Not if you are in Canada... the Sopranos in on CTV in prime time. The same is true in other countries as well.

Agree 100% He's a horrible actor, but he keeps pulling me back.
If I was a drinking man, I'd make a game of shots when he poses.
Every time he poses with his sunglasses on, take a shot. Every time he poses and takes his sunglasses off, take two shots. And every time he poses with his shades on, and his hands cocked on his hips with his jacket open, well...you're probably passed out by then....
Is that how these drinking games usually ends?

Xazy 05-10-2006 03:23 PM

Boston Legal, 24, Law & Order.

trickyy 05-10-2006 04:22 PM

good question
i'd have to agree with shakran, even though i don't even know when it's on
austin city limits can be pretty good too (i think it's still on pbs)

SecretMethod70 05-10-2006 04:27 PM

Boston Legal, House, and Frontline

in the UK: Doctor Who

Charlatan 05-10-2006 04:39 PM

Another vote for David Carouso is a wanker...

My Current Favourites
Lost
House
American Idol (I know, I can't believe it either)
CSI

Ditto, I've caught all episodes/seasons of the Sopranos on network TV (CTV).

My other votes go for 24, the British "the Office" Grey's anatomy, for Grey's anatomy of course.

I also like the quirky Dead Like Me on Showcase, the original CSI (the blue show) but like the Shatner-esq style of acting that Caruso brings to the Orange show (miami). speaking of over acting, I caught one episode of Boston Legal, where Shatner shot a guy in the court room. What great show.

What he said. I'll add that I find CSI highly entertaining (the original), however the writing is no where near the above options.

guy44 05-10-2006 09:45 PM

Veronica Mars. Hands down.

When you include all TV, you have to think The Shield, Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood...

but definitely Veronica Mars.

thespian86 05-11-2006 12:51 PM

Grey's Anatomy
The OC (ok... so shoot me)
Gilmore Girls (although it has gone very much downhill)
Scrubs

Charlatan 05-11-2006 12:56 PM

punkmusicfan21... thanks for the reminder.

I have to add: Gilmore Girls.

My wife made me watch it and I ended up liking it.

mrklixx 05-11-2006 01:40 PM

Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks

shoegirl 05-11-2006 02:42 PM

Grey's Anatomy
House
Alias
Veronica Mars
Gilmore Girls (i assume it'll pick back up next year, especially after the season finale)
Scrubs

If I had to pick just one, it'd be a toss up between Grey's Anatomy and Veronica Mars.

thespian86 05-27-2006 05:59 AM

I we were talking HBO I have recently discovered (ala bell expressvu canada) Huff. And I was instantly in love.

Ample 05-27-2006 06:11 AM

1. Lost
2. 24
3. The Office

Those are the only shows I watch on Network TV. I watch Nip/Tuck on Cable; however, HBO owns all
