Michael Jackson Memorabilia
...at the risk of sounding opportunistic...when is the best time to sell your Michael Jackson memorabilia? A few years ago, at a garage sale, i purchased two Michael Jackson LP record albums from when he was with the Jackson 5 for a dollar each. They are going for $200 each on Ebay right now.
...is now a good time? Or does the momentum build over time? Should this economic downturn we're in affect the timing of when to sell? What did anyone learn regarding when Elvis memorabilia peaked for investors and collectors? ` |
fear and greed drive the market. you may withhold the object because it may be 'worth' more later, and then hold it past the desired point.
even if you were to sell it right now on ebay for $200 you're up $199.... I've been reading and the blog and his podcast Arming the Donkeys. It's been very eye opening. |
If it were me...and it's not...I'd sell. Truthfully I cannot imagine the demand ever being higher than what it is right now.
|
It seems to me you'd make the most money right now while it's still a big deal...
I say sell while it's hot! |
I know someone that has all of Michael Jackson's singles on original release vinyl. He's going to make a killing this weekend. He's a huge fan, but he needs the money.
If I had ANYTHING MJ, I'd be selling it right now. |
He isn't going to die again. And there isn't any thing wrong with selling this shit.
|
Sell now. The price will crash as all the other people like you realise they can make $200 and suddenly the price on ebay is $1.
|
Agreed, do it.
|
Work on your math Cynth!
I agree with all, sell now! Sell. Sell. Sell!! |
...wow, a resounding "sell sell sell" from everybody...you all are probably right.
...i don't think the Michael Jackson memorabilia is going to follow in the footsteps of the Elvis memorabilia because so many people dislike MJ to put it mildly. ...HOWEVER, it seems human nature these days, especially the media people, to gravitate towards the controversial....you know, lovers of sensationalism. A word that comes to mind is "edgy", as in daring, provocative, neurotic, socially dangerous...today's world is more intrigued with the shock value. ...so, based on that, maybe MJ will hold more interest longterm....ya think? |
Look at it this way, Shell - he's never going to be viewed in a more positive light than now. In the future folks are going to be looking for personalized stuff, like signed albums (which it sounds like you don't have) or something directly connected to him. Since you brought up Elvis, look at his stuff on Ebay and see what his vinyls are going for in comparision. I think that you'll see for stuff that's unsigned and really just openly available there's not much of a premium placed.
Elvis memorabilia tends to be "special edition" stuff or something connected directly to him (a scarf tossed into an audience after a concert, etc.). You don't have that, so the best time for you seems like now. MJ's probably never going to be any bigger than he is right now. |
I saw 15 Elvis records for $5.00 at a thrift store the other day...
Your records won't be worth this much for very long. Get rid of them. |
...excellent points and thank you! I believe everyone is right...will do :)
|
agreed. you should sell now since he has just recently passed.
