Sin City: A review of sorts

I ordered two of the SIN CITY graphic novels by Frank Miller: the
first and second novels : "The Hard Goodbye" and "A Dame to Kill For"
and was moved by the movie version to order them and wanted to
see the film someday. The black and white drawings are well done but
the stories seem to be too full of killing and fighting to be interesting
to me. I did like the 2nd one better than the first. The main character
seems to be a friend of the ladies of the night and he was a cop once.
Marv is physically powerful and could be a private eye but does not seem
to be able to stay healthy long enough to keep a client happy or collect
a pay check. I guess I was expecting something different. Anyone
really enjoy these books?

I enjoy the artwork more than the story itself. That's why I bought the comics. PRETTY TO LOOKS AT WOW.

Wait a minute... You saw the movie, and then you were surprised at the level of violence in the books?? The The Hard Goodbye section of the film is almost shot-for-shot the book. They used the graphic novel as a story board, for crying out loud! I can't even count the number of deaths in the movie. And you're surprised that the books were the same way??

A Dame to Kill For is the earlier story of Dwight, the Clive Owen character. In the movie (and in the novel The Big Fat Kill, the third book, upon which the Dwight section of the film is based), there's brief reference to Dwight getting "a new face". In ADTKF, we find out about that. As far as I remember, Dwight was never a cop. What we know about him is, he's a sucker for a woman in distress, and he's a real mean drunk who's gone straight.

Listen, the art is BRILLIANT in the books, and the stories are graphic and gruesome, but that's part of their charm. Like the film, part of the joy is seeing just how far it'll go.

I said I wanted to see the movie. Books took a long time to get here. Probably will
order the DVD from Netflix.

I like all of Frank Miler's B/W stuff. So ya, I like Sin City, That Yellow Bastard, A Dame to Kill For, etc. I think the stories range from OK to brilliant. The artwork is always A+.
