sort of a self portrait sort of
 

I was thinking about posting this drawing I did last year, and figured sure, go ahead - just do it. Without having a server to link to I have to go with bits and piece. Hope it comes across ok - let me know what you think, eh?

I'll do two posts to try and get some detail shown. The elements are those spirals out from the centre - going widdershins, or counter clockwise, from the top they are earth, air, fire and water. Each quadrant carries some elements of our essential place in the universe we create.

btw I had it laminated to a backer card at work and the *%# operator didn't put a protective sheet on it. When it went through the rollers the graphite got sucked right out of the paper and onto the rollers. 100 hours of work undone. I redrew over it, but it's now like a friend who's suffered an injury or illness, and will never be the same :|

these are the detail bits

upper right is the life force that is based on the water and the earth and the plants that draw the two together with the energies of the sun

lower right is the powers of love and nurturing. We have to be aware that the cycles of life are where we exist when we relate to each other.

lower left is wisdom and knowledge, and the building of one thing on another.

upper left is madness and magic and the wild spirit that infuses us with free will

I love the detail, and the little pictures in the border. Oh man! I envy your talent. It's beautiful. I'm sorry the silly laminator guy futzed it up. I still love it.

This is such an awesome concept kramus - I've seriously spent a half hour studying this picture. I really enjoy seeing your work :)

I thought for sure I'd commented on this one. I have to say again the intricasy of your work is mind boggling. Such attention to detail and so much skill. How many man hours does it take you to complete a piece of this calibur?

gee, thanks guys :icare: :D I did put a fair bit into it, and in trying to make clear at least to myself what I was trying to put together here. My attic has lots of stuff in it and I need to be spending more time drawing it out, so to speak ;)

This one K-wise, actual pencil on paper time, is probably near abouts 150 hours for the 11" x 14" drawing. The funny thing is that once you get about 60-70 hours into it the time I spent just looking at it - figureing out what's best to do often lasts longer than the time spent actually working. I rotated the drawing, and held it up to mirrors, and drew upside down. It took me about 3 months to do the work in total. Plus the time spent writing and in thought while pulling together the writeup. I'll be revisiting lots of my writeups for different drawings I've done as a result of my TFP time - I'll reword stuff a bit eh?

^ I figured it'd be about that much. I know what it's like to actually stare at a drawing lol. Cept mine aren't of the same quality. Not to be argued it's just a simple fact lol. Some people are just better than others. Rewording is all you buddy haha.

I can see the self....in this work. I too spent some time looking at the details, and felt I was reading a book.....excellent work kramus.

gee guys :) Thanks :) Actually ng, a lot of the time spent is because I'm trying to figure out how to draw - I don't seem to have the knack of just laying something down effectively in one quick go. But then again, the work/time spent was genuine as opposed to just a long and tedious exercise so I really do appreciate what you folks are saying.
