Winner

Me and my colleagues have all participated in a poster contest for HK (Denmark's biggest union). The department in the city I work in turns 100 this year and they wanted a unique birthday poster to use as a promotion for their birthday.

Guess what? I won! :D

EDIT: after making the last changes the poster now looks like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ater/HK100.jpg

Do you get the symbolism or do I have to explain it? :hmm:

I won $229 and a gift cirtificate to the movies. Getting all that money is great of course but the best thing is all the promotion I'll get out of this; I got my photo in the newspaper today (EDIT:this is how the original design looked like):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...Untitled-1.jpg
:D :D :D

I'll be in the HK Magazine in February and on the jubilee DVD which will be released in November

They will be using my illustration for everything throughout 2005; Wine cards, menus, invitations, posters, letters etc. How cool is that??!?!?!?!?!? *stoked*

So far 2005 rocks! :D

Nancy 01-11-2005 12:33 PM

Nancy 01-11-2005 12:34 PM

As promised Desario:

"Nancy has used distinct and clear symbols in the poster that won the HK Herning competition. Some minor details have to be changed and after that it'll be printed as official jubilee poster.

Photo: Michael Svenningsen

A happy poster winner

HK Herning celebrates its 100 year jubilee this year and mediagraphic artist trainee Nancy has designed the jubilee poster

Naturally all the poster suggestions were fine, and of course it ultimately was about electing a winner when Elsebeth Holm, head of department in HK Herning, and Helle Ahler, head of youth, visited CEU Herning this monday.

14 trainees from the mediagraphic artist line had participated in HK Herning's poster contest on the occasion of the department's 100 year jubilee celebration later this year. The winner of the competition was Nancy who in that way secured a free ticket for the Skanderborg Festival in August*.

The poster suggestion we've chosen is very striking. It contains distinct and clear symbols. The colors are clear and bright. The line is good. It's easy to see from a great distance and needs no explanation and one has no doubt that this is HK Herning's jubilee poster, said Elsebeth Holm before she presented the winner with the gift certificate.
The chairman added that some changes need to be made to the original suggestion. Hereafter it'll be printed as official jubilee poster so it can be hung up in the HK department and be distributed to representatives and the illustration will recur on invitations, wine labels, menu cards and much more in the arrangements during the jubilee year. All poster suggestions will furthermore be framed and exhibited in the halls of HK Youth.

Finally there were also a little price to all the contestants, namely a giftcertificate to a movie in BioCity.

Steen"

* they haven't started selling the tickets yet so I received a $299 check instead so I could buy them myself in due time

Desario 01-12-2005 01:07 PM

Wow thank you for the translation. I didn't think you would translate all of that. Again, good job on the poster.

K-Wise 01-12-2005 08:00 PM

Cool :D

Asta!!

Zephyr66 01-13-2005 03:55 PM

Nice poster and contrats on your victory.
Who would've thought that someone so artistic can be so hot at the same time?

MoNoXiDe_XXX 01-14-2005 08:15 AM

Thats awesome nancy... totaly wicked. Its great to see your artwork all over the place. Whee haw.

Hard8s 01-14-2005 12:21 PM

Trainee??? It doesn't look like the work of a trainee!!! It looks like the work of a true Professional Graphic Media Artist to me!
What kind of minor changes are they going to make? Are they going to let you make the changes?
And thanks for the translation as well. You know some of us don't speak 3 languages! :)

doodlebird 01-15-2005 07:06 PM

congratulations. may the good press lead to further opportunites and more positive exposure.

But of course I translated all of it, otherwise the column wouldn't make much sense :)

Of course they're gonna let me make the changes. Since this is my piece of art I'm in charge of the design of all the things it'll be used for.

They want the green arrow in front removed/changed into a step like the rest and they want the first year to be 1905 instead of 1910 because that's the year they were founded.

Nancy 01-20-2005 06:36 AM

Here's the poster after I made the changes they asked for. Personally I liked the green arrow better, it made the poster seem much more dynamic. Oh well.

D'oh! Ah well, the joys of illustration...all about making the client happy... I like the arrow better too.

thriolith 01-20-2005 12:33 PM

Aww, the arrow looked much better... it did give it a lot more flow to it.

screamincheetah 01-22-2005 05:44 PM

Awesome job Nancy! You're the best. That's a great honor to have your vision chosen to represent your whole company.

I think I'm missing something though. You're saying that the last link you posted contained a change to the original. I'm not seeing a difference between the posters. Am I missing something? Also, I really, really liked the other idea you submitted. I think it was very cool.

:)

QuasiMojo 01-22-2005 05:51 PM

Well Hey!
Congrats on making your way in the Real World.

only the beginning eh?

Thanks B.! :icare: My illustration will be representing me, not my company, that's why I'm so thrilled about it! :D

Hmm you're right! Weeeeiiird. You can compare the last link with the poster I'm holding in the newspaper (the one including the arrow is the original) :)

Nancy 01-23-2005 11:49 PM

FngKestrel, thriolith: nice to hear that I'm not the only one who has that opinion! They said that the arrow pointing in arrears was giving the impression that HK was thinking in arrears instead of ahead?!

The arrow has to turn backwards as it represents the past and the sexless person running towards the clock (=the future) is a symbol of the ahead thinking :|

They think the symbolism of ahead thinking wasn't visible enough so I had to change it. Oh well, as long as the alterations aren't more extensive than this I'll live :)
