I doth love your robots. If I could have an army of those automatons then I could finally get things done. I especially like the multiple shadows.

This is the same robot, just not toonified. This picture just didn't look right with the toon stuff. Not my best, anyway. The city goes on and on, by the way. It's huge. But you can't see it. Way to plan your work, hu-man!

I'm using 3D Studio MAX. The toon effect is indeed a plugin, and you can get a free trial somewhere... can't remember what it's called though!
The robot's arm fell off, and that's why he's leaning against the building, being sad...
It took me a long time, but to create the city I used a plugin called Greeble, which actually is used to create those futuristic squares on spaceships to make them look cool, but I found a tutorial that described how to use it to create a city, complete with streets, squares, different sized buildings, chimneys etc. Google "how to greeble a city" or something to find it.

this look kind of reminds me of 2d 3d video games like parappa the rappa and viewtiful joe. it is really a rad look tho..

Well, I was 19 years old when that movie came out, so no. But it sure did influence me

If you mean if I was frightened by a real Iron Giant coming to my house and picking me up and flying me to strange places when I was a kid, then also no. He was my friend! Damn that government and their nuclear bombs.
