here's another one that i started with a pic of my dog when he was a puppy. i don't like this one as much, but it was also fun to make & play with the newly found brushes.

the dog one began with the photo.
duplicate the layer. images > adjustments > threshold then color range. select the white pixels & delete those. then i just layered on a bunch of the brushes. and yeah the bottom right was text i'd added previously.

you could always make your own brushes
I've been dabbling with that.. so far I've made myself a cool snowflake and heart brush with a nifty preset for each

Bernadette,
BlueVertigo looks like an awesome site. Thanks for that. I'll need to spend quite a while perusing. Thanks a bunch!

ah. ok. yeah gallopingwanker. gotcha.
there's a lot of very similar brushes out there. it's funny tho, i am just now trying out any brushes other than the standard ones that come with PS. so, i tried to imitate that dirty grundge style before using fonts! haha i laugh at myself. nah. i'm no wizard. (yet *wink* haha) thanks tho : ) there's a lot more i need to learn to use in photoshop yet. that is one powerful application.

brushes are pretty cool, but the best way to work with them and not be seen as imitating someone else is to make your own. it is pretty easy, and they work pretty awesome to apply dirty texture and make a font treatment look like it is actually in the picture. i made a lot of brushes with rust, tape, and dirt. if you need advice on how to make them, i'd happily help out.
