playing with photoshop brushes

this was made solely with some brushes i found the other day.

i think i'm gonna wind up a PS brush junkie :) so much fun!

numist 11-16-2003 01:02 PM

you mean to say that that started out as a blank file?????

damn, can I get some images from you for the next project I do?

bernadette 11-16-2003 01:03 PM

here's another one that i started with a pic of my dog when he was a puppy. i don't like this one as much, but it was also fun to make & play with the newly found brushes.

numist 11-16-2003 01:05 PM

was the dog one done with all brushes or did you use the text tool for the bottom right?

either way.... wow

bernadette 11-16-2003 01:07 PM

numist, yes, it began as a blank canvas.

i found the brushes from this website:
http://bluevertigo.com.ar/bluevertigo.htm

scroll all the way to the right for a cornucopia of brush links :)

bernadette 11-16-2003 01:09 PM

the dog one began with the photo.
duplicate the layer.
images > adjustments > threshold
then color range. select the white pixels & delete those.

then i just layered on a bunch of the brushes.

and yeah the bottom right was text i'd added previously.

GoldenOuroboros 11-18-2003 01:47 AM

you could always make your own brushes :D
I've been dabbling with that.. so far I've made myself a cool snowflake and heart brush with a nifty preset for each

Tophat665 11-18-2003 05:14 AM

Bernadette,
BlueVertigo looks like an awesome site. Thanks for that. I'll need to spend quite a while perusing.
Thanks a bunch!

analinguist 11-18-2003 12:37 PM

damn, i think wanker would say that you are coping on his style.

GoldenOuroboros 11-18-2003 02:47 PM

So that's where I saw it.. lol :D

chinabean 11-18-2003 05:03 PM

I like your work very much, bernadette.
Thanks.

what's that mean? who is wanker?

numist 11-20-2003 10:42 AM

gallopingwanker posted a thread with much the same style as your first brushwork. I recognized it as well.

Either way, you are a wizard with PS and Pain, bernadette, my hats off to ya.

analinguist 11-20-2003 11:15 AM

yeah, wanker uses a brush that is probably the same one. the whole general aesthetic is pretty similar actually.

bernadette 11-20-2003 01:23 PM

ah. ok. yeah gallopingwanker. gotcha.

there's a lot of very similar brushes out there.
it's funny tho, i am just now trying out any brushes other than the standard ones that come with PS. so, i tried to imitate that dirty grundge style before using fonts! haha i laugh at myself.

nah. i'm no wizard. (yet *wink* haha) thanks tho : )
there's a lot more i need to learn to use in photoshop yet. that is one powerful application.

analinguist 11-21-2003 08:18 AM

brushes are pretty cool, but the best way to work with them and not be seen as imitating someone else is to make your own. it is pretty easy, and they work pretty awesome to apply dirty texture and make a font treatment look like it is actually in the picture. i made a lot of brushes with rust, tape, and dirt. if you need advice on how to make them, i'd happily help out.

RotEx 11-22-2003 01:13 AM

wow that looks great!

i think i will attemt some brushing!

Frowning Budah 11-23-2003 12:51 PM

That is some great work. That first one just blew me away. I didn't know you could do such neat things with brushes.

Sfaker 11-24-2003 01:15 AM

Thats awesome... I'm gonna need to play around more, heh. Thanks for the motivation.

anti fishstick 11-27-2003 12:42 PM

brushes are fun!
they can make things look cool and dazzle everyone with very little effort.

uber1 11-28-2003 11:09 AM
