Drawing Tablet.
 

Does anyone here use a tablet or have any suggestions whats important? what brand/size/connection is best? I do alot of pencial/paper/watercolor work for industrial design but I want to start moving more of it into photoshop. Do you have any suggestions of a good tablet thats compatible with PS 7.0 and pressure sensitive (i assume this is a feature?)

have you looked around the net, best to do that first. As they say here, quite abit actually, google it :D

But other than that, I'm after one too.. want an A4 size one if I can get one that's around my budget :)

everyone uses waicom tablets, but they are the most expensive. they are pretty nice though..they have really nice pressure sensitivity. you don't need to get a huge one either, one of my old roommate's had one.. i think it was about 5 x 7, and that was plenty of space. it takes a bit to get used to, as i've tried to use a few, but once you get the handle of it, it will be more natural obviously.

i have a 4x5 wacom tablet and it does everything i want and more, don't judge on size because it is perfect size for me and probably everyone else...an example of a project i did is entitled "christina scabbia portrait"...you can see different pressures and such within the painting......additional advice: only go wacom, don't go off brand...also, it was $99 for the 4x5

i knew someone that didn't get a waicom and it seemed to work okay, but i don't know how they work i the long run. i didn't get to use it myself, but everyone that i know that has a waicom seems to really love them. take wankers advice.

Yep, I like my Wacom. Got it from Future Shop for 125$ CD I think. It was worth every penny in my opinion.

I've got a wacom graphire, but I wish i had an intuos2...

it's very useful when I use it, but I haven't done much drawing on the comp in a while now :\

I did this with the tablet in photoshop, it's a small portion of a family portrait i drew for a friend. the finished product is cleaner but this part was done completely with the tablet.

:) I like it so I can't. Dell has one on sale right now new for $375. 9x12 platinum version, with 1024 preassure points and automatic +5 to sex appeal.

theres no big differences between the intuos and graphire wacom tablets, one has some shortcuts which are easier to do by hand anyways...and the pen is cooler, that's about it...not enough of a difference for a designer/artist to spend 200 bucks more...just my input

the line weight of those last two drawings drives me crazy. change it up a bit. it screams for change! that sketchy drawing with the wacom tablet looks authentically hand drawn.. pretty neat stuff those tablets can give you. i always just scan my hand drawn and trace it in illustrator...perhaps i could skip a step with one of those...i dont' feel like spending money on crap like that tho, i'd rather buy a good pair of monitor speakers fer me music studio. arrr!!!

I know you mean well Anal, but my art is for me and not others...so I don't plan on changing that style anytime soon. My styles vary, if you want to see my other work hit my website.

I love my wacom, I just wish I had saved a bit longer and got the 9x12 one.

gallopingwanker: the main difference I see is the drawing area size. the graphire is only about 4x5" (though there is a 6x8" version it wasn't available when I purchased mine, I could go for one of those!). The Intuos comes in 4x5", 6x8", 9x12" and 12x18" versions, and has more mouse functions (though I don't use tablet mice at all; I don't like how they orient themselves compared to regular mice).

Also if you are messing with them for the first time, you can put your own drawing underneath the plastic.

I would get one but all I could draw would be stick figures :(

I've owned a few tablets, and Wacom is by far the best I've used. I've had the Wacom.

The off-brand ones tended to die pretty quickly, required batteries, and were overall rather flakey.

As for size, I'd suggest going with a little 4x5 to start (usually around $100USD), and if you find that you like using the tablet, but want a larger surface, upgrade.
