Selfportrait

I made this selfportrait in Illustrator, basically started out by drawing over the original photo and then remodelled the eyes and the mouth.
It's not very flattering, but it wasn't intended to be- it's more of a caricature of how I sometimes fee (or fear)l I'm coming across.
Anyway, I'd like to read what y'all think about it.

And here's the original photo- at the time i didn't think i was that drunk, btw ;)

looks hot man.. i like your shading, its angular and reminds me sort of some comic book styles. i think thick line weight around the outside looks good too. i'm a fan of it. the only part that i would suggest to play with is the nose. maybe a little more shading in there. you're grey.

crazy. my first thought was skinny black guy. then I saw your reference pic. skinny white guy. my only question is this- what happened to the 15 ear rings in the drawing? you left them out?!

Wow .....where is the ugly stick?

Heh, I got so caught up in doing the eyes and the lines around it, and the style in general that I didn't put much work in the rest of the face. Wich also explains the missing (7) earrings. Analinguist, good tip. Thanks for the feedback :)

That's quite a grin you've got there. Nice job on the posterization.

I love that style. It looks great. Like analinguist said, I would do some more detail around the nose, chin, and forehead to match the detail of the eyes. Pretty sweet!

heh, I thought the self-portrait was of a black guy too. Which makes the art all the more special.

analinguist 08-06-2003 11:12 AM

i thought black guy too, but i think it is just because of the greys used.

mantra: I've been working with illustrator for ...almost two years now, but I've only started doing this type of a couple of months ago. Just take a simple picture and start practicing with the curves :)

Funny how you people think it's a black guy- not sure if it's just the greys used, maybe some of the features seem a little negroid aswell...I'll try and make one with different skintones, see if that helps.
Thanks again for the comments!
