Have you ever voted on Idol or SYTYCD?
Here's your chance to vote for something entirely different.
Kramus has entered this self-portrait competition - Artists Wanted. He's reluctant to self-promote, so I got moderator approval to post this for him. The Power of Self is a competition for discovering new artists and the definition of "self-portrait" is appealingly loose. There will likely be much that is interesting to see there. It is judged by an expert panel, but there is also a separate award for most popular votes from the public. You can vote more than once, but only once/24hrs and voting is FREE. Please take a look at Kramus' portfolio - Artists Wanted, vote as you wish, and distribute the call as widely through cyberspace as you can. If he wins, I will see if I can get Kramus to post videos of himself singing and dancing |

I enjoy kramus' artwork. I can't in good conscience guarantee that I'll vote for him, but it's a strong possibility.
However, on browsing the site quickly I saw no way to vote or even see the submissions. Is there something I'm missing here?

Below the artwork, there is a bar where it says "Rate This Portfolio" with stars next to it. You can give up to five stars.
And I already voted--happy to do so. It's the least I can do for the wonderful artwork I have in my possession from kramus.

When Kramus read the line about posting pictures of himself singing and dancing, he laughed and said "Good Lord, I'd sooner post pictures of myself moaning and ejaculating". So, voyeuristic people of TFP, if that's what you want to see - vote for it.
I don't know how to see the portfolios of other artists in the competition. The deadline for entering the competition isn't until Jan. 14 - maybe links to the other artists show up then. Other than that, Snowy is right - you vote using the very non-user friendly Likert star scale below the images. Last edited by madli; 01-05-2010 at 08:40 PM.. |

I've been on this website myself, in a different edition. Can't really apply to this one because it's a self-portrait edition.
I voted kramus, good luck!

Actually, I think an EB participation thread (I don't believe we've really utilized the anonymous poster option in EB) would be pretty cool. Hmmm - how to be creative with those images . . . /threadjack

Your art deserves to win. You're immensely talented.
I definitely voted, and I will again and again. ---------- Post added at 11:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:48 PM ---------- Also, I think it may be a good idea to update your online profile with a more profile-view image of yourself, so that the shape of your face is more immediately recognizable in the sitting and thinking places.

Many thanks to everyone here I see on the site page ( http://www.artistswanted.org/markfineart ) that there are over 150 votes, which is honestly 3 times what I thought I might end up with when madli first proposed I put some work into the contest. Of course the eventual winner will have thousands of votes, but the fact that so many people here and on my Facebook page ( Mark Fine Art | Facebook ) have signed on as fans and are voting is wonderful and a bit moving and rather empowering in a way. So thanks again to everyone who has posted here, and to everyone who has voted!

I've just emailed the contest with your question Shani. I'll post it here as an edit as soon as they get back to me. I can understand why you ask - I would like to see what the next step is, and maybe find where all the submitted portfolios can all be seen. There have been a couple of glitches in this process, I found that out right at the start
......................... The rules changed. I just got a new email this afternoon about an extension. "In response to popular demand, your deadline for entry has been extended to Midnight, January 21st. At that time voting will end and formal judging will begin." I don't expect anyone who had been voting all along to continue to do so after these last minute changes, especially since I had already spread the word that the voting had closed yesterday. That being said, if you continued to do so I'd appreciate it A win isn't likely, but it is oh-so-nice to see your participation.

Thanks everyone, for your support in this.
There is no way to easily view the submissions of other artists as far as I can tell, but I did a general Google search and was able to pull up the portfolios of a few other artists. The vote numbers seem to range from the low 20's to as much as 4,000. Apparently some submissions have managed to go viral on tweets or blogs. Does anyone know how to make something go viral on the internet? Not that it really matters. Kramus doesn't expect to win - it really is meaningful to him that anyone takes the time to look at his work at all. |

Might ask a few major corporations. Everyone from Coke to Kodak have been trying to figure it out for years, without a whole lot of success.
