Sitting Place not quite a WIP
4 Attachment(s)
Sitting Place (10 3/4" x 14" - 27.3 cm x 35.5 cm) has been kicking around for a while. My Lady told me it looked unfinished - and I agreed. So I pulled it out of the frame and have been scratching away on and off for the last little while.
Originally a combination of some pencil crayon and micron pens, I cleaned off most of the crayon before doing the extra drawing. I called this thread "not quite a WIP (Work In Progress)" because it hasn't been scanned from the beginning, there is no definite end-point, and I will simply draw until something says stop. I had a write-up about Sitting Place, but the original text file got fried with a computer crash and I can't find a hard copy anywhere. But the drawing is about how we all have our special places that suit us and fit us, and we use these places to support that inner life which is so important. It probably isn't obvious anymore, but the drawing has the central figure seated inside of an ambiguous tree/stone formation which has another creature sharing the space - a snake-type beastie living it's own life in it's own Sitting Place which happens to overlap the central figures Place. And the formation these creatures share is actually the central figure's profile. So his Place has his imprimature, and he fits it like no other place could fit him. |
I really like the depth that the new additions added. I also like that you have to look at it for a minute to see what there.

The finished piece clearly improved from its earlier state. I love the detailing of the drawing. I really feel you should take the scale of your drawings up. They are amazing but I think they would become more impactful if some of the structures you create were life sized. This draiwng also shows a development in your work from other pieces I have seen. This one, to me, can no longer be put in the illustration only category. I hope one day I will be able to see one of your pieces in person! Good work kramus, keep it up!

Thanks for taking the time to look, Starkizzer and little tippler. My Lady was right about the drawing needing some more work, and you two validate that observation :)
Imagine, LT, if I spent the time to create some of these drawings at a larger scale and still with the line-upon-line that you see here. I would be an old, old man before I finished very many pieces  It is nice to be stepping away from the illustrator branding (not that there is anything wrong with that) |
