First tattoo...

So, these are the elements I want for my tattoo, but I haven't decided on the layout yet. I don't know what kind of font I want to use, where I will put the text, what kind of star, or where I want the star to go. I do know I want to use Le Chat Noir sitting on a moon. This will probably be no larger than 2"x3" on my chest.

Looking for suggestions...

My thoughts so far...

Font: I like fonts that look like handwritten script. I thought about placing the text in the halo around Le Chat Noir, but it would be too small to read. Placing the text in the moon would be too confusing because where would you start the word in a way so the text is most readable.

Star: A five point star is difficult because where do you place it so it's not confused as a pentacle or pentagram. A four point star might look better, but it seems too much like a plus sign. I'd like to put the star somewhere above or at level with the top of the moon. I don't want to make the tattoo seem too closed by using the star to squaring it off like I've done in my sample image. If I place the star below the top of the moon, it seems too claustophobic.

It's going on my chest. Sorry to hear you have such strong feelings over a tattoo that isn't even going on your body, your girlfriend's or your daughter's.

I like the location and design of the second star much better. I'm sure you probably have a pretty clear vision on this, but have you looked at it without the star?

Obviously, where it's placed on your body is totally up to you, but it is a very unique tat. If you don't go shirtless, nobody will see it. Anyway brother, my $0.02.

Actually I have considered it without a star because I just can't decide on where I would put it if I did get it.

Thanks for the input.

If I didn't get a star, maybe I should place it on the center of my chest.

I've found it's a good idea to take a picture of yourself where you want the tattoo to be, then photoshop it in (I'd be happy to help). I was recently considering one on my chest, and now I'm having doubts about it.

and I remember seeing you on the "post your picture" thread, and I'll vouch that you're not only a girl, but quite a cutie as well!

I already thought about that.....

I'm probably not going to go with a solid moon, but an outline because that seems like too much ink. I can always get more ink done if I decide it needs to be filled in.

Try the round moon without the crescents. The way you have them placed in the last photo make them look like some kind of weird bra. I do really like the crescent moon, but only as in your original. I've always prefered a more simple composition.

you should clean up your design, it looks very adobe illustrator and computer looking, maybe play with the line weights of your cat. you can use the expand functions and make it look more hand drawn.

don't worry about it being 'computer looking'. its not a sticker she wants designed. the person doing the ink will put in the effort to make it look original and hand drawn. we'll assume she will have it done by an expert who can take her idea and make it look good...

Finalizing

After talking a lot with my friends, there is too much risk of the skin sagging wherever I put the tattoo on my chest. I am pretty positive I'm going to get it slightly above my pubic region. And I do realize this will hurt like a mofo, but I'm willing to deal.

Also, here is what I've locked onto as my final draft. The moon outline is crappy, but it would just be a thick blue line and then the inside would be shaded lightly with light and dark blues to make it feel spherical. The image as I see it on my monitor is about the size I want it to be in real life.

I'm not sure about what you're going to do about those white outlines inside the cat. I be interested in hearing what a tatoo artist says.

I was planning on those being a light gray. I could do white ink, too. My natural complexion is pretty dark, so it would show up pretty well.

are you sure they won't close up, even with a white outline?

good idea if you can pull it off.

I like the one with the double-crescents for sure. An easy way for you to make a nice crescent is to take a circle-tool in a paint program. Make a large circle, then take another smaller circle slightly offset of the other and viola! do some erasing and touching up and there you go.

then all you do is find a way to get your chest inside an inkjet printer.

I am not to sure if you have already gotten this done yet. But i really like the one with the cresent moon and the star on the right side.

As for placement. I would suggest maybe on the upper outer thigh area. Maybe people call this area the hip? I dunno. What the region is named.

Personaly i would leave the chest bare. No pun intended.

Anyways. Just wondering if you had already finished the tat?

Hmm, i was reading more of your post and you were placing it in the pubic region. I would still suggest upper thigh. But if you go with the pubic region its a hell of alot better area then the chest.

Anyhow thats my .03 pennies.

Ciao

If you haven't gotten this already, one thing to consider in relation to the white lines within the cat, is that tattoo ink is viewed through a layer of skin, so if you have a darker complexion, then it may be more or less difficult to see (I can't remember which way it works), but either way, it will be viewed through a layer of skin, so white tattoos aren't usually a vibrant white. (Not to say that white ink tattoos aren't cool...I'm having white added to two of mine as soon as I get some cash) Also, I'd find a tattooist with a light hand. My first one had close lines like that, and the guy that did it drove HARD with the needle, and some of the lines are now blown out, less than two years later.

But, more on topic, I think the finalized design looks really nice, and in the hands of a good tattoo artist, it should be a piece that you'll always be proud of!
