First attempt at acrylics
Painting with oil sucks, that's pretty much my conclusion after trying acrylics. My biggest problems when painting with oil is that the paint fucking NEVER dries. Since I've had deadlines with my past paintings, it resulted in a great deal of frustration and half-assed results. I really can't see myself ever going back to oil.
My dad turns 50 today, and this is his gift. I chose an eagle because I find it represents the freedom and power I see in my father. also I wanted something with a connection to his love for Harley-Davidsons, and eagles are very commonly used with the HD logo. I included the image I used as reference, enjoy.

I really like that--both the concept and the execution!
I wish I was your dad. Happy birthday to him, btw.

Looks good.
For that style I definitely recommend acrylics. Or guaoche. That's funny though, I prefer oils for the exact reason you hate them. Depending on how thick you apply it, it dries within 24 hours or up to 3 days typically. Longer if you are really slapping it on thick. But i love how i can mix colors on the canvas and go back to certain areas before it's dry. But i tend to paint more realitic in style. |
