easy man............nice shades.

great vid dude........keep the tunes comin' baby.............love it

Halx 02-02-2007 08:49 PM

Great work! My only comment is the voice doesn't seem to match the kind of singing. Its just my opinion, but I imagine there are other ways to deliver the lyrics that better suit the voice.

vanblah 02-05-2007 11:15 AM

Thanks for the kind words.

Based on my avatar I see how you might think that; but no, I'm the one with long-ish hair.

All of the stock footage is from various "Reefer Madness" type films from the 50's and 60's and are in the public domain. They seem to fit with the preacher very well. Check the "Prelinger Archives" for more goodies in that vein.

Well, that's just his voice. Most of the songs on the CD are sung in sort of a high head-voice. He can't scream, or sing low and breathy. I do understand what you are saying though. We are somewhat of an enigma since he looks like he'd do metal or screamo.

Nancy 02-18-2007 10:05 PM

That was really cool, D.! :D

Say, did you guys ever consider to:

a) using old video clips only
b) shoot yourselves in B/W

?

vanblah 02-19-2007 07:33 AM

The old clips match the tone for "the preacher" so Amy (the director) used the old footage to set us apart from him. Plus, it's interesting to note that while the styles have changed, kids (and adults) haven't changed all that much. We (the band) are stuck somewhere in between.

We did do a few shots of us in black and white (the near/far shots for instance). I'm not sure what Amy's reason for color vs. black and white was. I'm sure she had one ... those film school kids always have their reasons.

vanblah 03-07-2007 12:48 PM

Well, here's the second video. This is for a song called "Apes."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJ-ZFQtwAGg

It was written and directed by our lead singer: Jason. Camera work by Amy again.

I did all of the editing and synching under the direction of Jason. I did a LOT of micro edits to get the song to line up with the singing. Of course, YouTube screws that up, but it would have been far, far worse if I hadn't synched it. I also did a lot of color manipulation. It's subtle enough overall, but there are a few spots where it's very obvious.

Jason wanted these to be static shots, almost like a postcard or a picture. Only he knows why.

nice man........dig your work.......good stuff.

you plan on any more vids........?

vanblah 03-07-2007 02:44 PM

Thanks.

Yep. We're planning a third one, but it probably won't be out until Spring. We're trying to do a video for every song on the record. We'll see where that goes. Several people have expressed an interest in doing a video for us, but so far they are too busy or require more budget than we have. ($0).

Cool video, D., but I must confess that I liked Devastortion a lot more.

That would be cool. Do you want to tackle that? I don't know ANYONE in my town who is good enough at animation for something like this.

The lip synching is really bad on Youtube ... it looks much better on MySpace:

Uhmmm sure! But before we get started we need to talk about the effects/images/plot you'd like to use in the video so I'll know whether my animation skills will suffice or not.

I'll say! I'm sorry that it's so terrible on Youtube even after all your hard work. At least you won't have that kind of trouble with an animated video eh?

Astrocloud 03-27-2007 06:04 AM

I liked it -very patriotic.

newtx 03-27-2007 10:25 AM

Well, two of the songs are already spoken for (300hp Lie Detector, Leche Marron). Would you have a preference for the song? Do you have a favorite song?

I don't have any ideas for styles or plots ...

Uhhhhh Boy On A Bicycle! I HAVE DIBS ON BOY ON BICYCLE! :D :hyper:

I've been giving it a lot of thought and..it would be a bit easier to come up with a concept if I had the lyrics, I think...

vanblah 03-30-2007 08:52 AM

Cool! I'm looking forward to this ... my first TFP collab!
