My Mom and Grandma call it that and I used to think it meant your butt! I was a little surprised to find that it wasn't. I'm not sure why but it seemed to the 5-year-old me like something you should call your butt.

I've called mine all kinds of things, but my favorite is "the jewel in my lotus." I've used it since I did a research paper on the lotus in high school.

As far as i know that's a slang term that's used in australia - I learned this -- not once but twice.. the hard way - first time I was out with some aussie colleagues... in sydney and I made a comment about how only a tourist would be caught dead wearing a fanny pack... the look of utter shock i got was funny...

I didn't learn...

a week or so later, I was in the customer site, and was rather appalled that a male exec swatted a secretary on the bum as she walked by... I said this to someone else - only i didn't use the word bum, I used the word fanny... they were shocked - apparantly hitting on the bum was ok behavior - elsewhere was not.. they finally explained to me what fanny meant...
