So, I've been working out lately (yay for me) and when I get done I like to shower in the locker room. I work out at the gym at my alma matter- UNC Asheville- and you know, the school's pretty liberal and all.

But, I can't help but wonder if I'm supposed to keep my clothes on or not in the locker room. I like walking naked from the shower to my locker so I can air dry a little bit before I put my clothes on. The towels are too small for me to wrap myself in- usually I drape them over my shoulders or something, but I really wouldn't mind just wandering around naked.

I haven't ever seen a policy on this or anything, so I'm curious as to wether or not naked in the locker room is an accepted thing.

I ask because in the men's locker room, they have a big communal shower so being naked isn't a big deal, but in the women's locker room they went to great pains to have the showers be seperate and even have a little "ante-area" on every shower where there are two benches before you step into your own little private shower.

So.... naked or not?

Most locker rooms I've been in, it runs the gamut from some people walking around nekkid to others wearing a robe... i think it's all about you and your comfort level, a minor consideration would be what the other members do.. Do others wander around naked?

I agree with maleficent that it's more about your comfort level than anyone else's. I used to work out at a club regularly where there was a wide range of preferences on this subject. Personally, I prefer a towel around me, though I remember one of the ladies was very liberal about walking around naked. It never bothered me or anyone else that I knew of, though she was a real talker and sometimes she would get into a conversation with others and stand there talking, talking, talking naked as a jaybird. There wasn't anything suggestive about it - she was just a very talkative, self-confident person. I do think the boundaries of personal space can become redefined when standing around naked, however. As long as you respect the other ladies' personal space, I don't think there will be a problem. After all, everyone in the ladies locker room has the same equipment as you!

I would do what I felt most comfortable with and not worry what others think. It's not like you are approaching other women while naked and making sexual advances. If the others in the locker room never walk around naked, I would probably throw on my panties before walking to the locker but I wouldn't worry about getting dressed while near the showers. To me I don't like getting dressed in a steamy spot where I can't dry off completely.

If naked feels good, do it. If people give you looks, ignore them. I hate getting dressed damp - sort of negates at least half the purpose of a shower, which is to make you feel clean and fresh - and in fact, if I put my undies on before I've aired out the dainty bits a little, I am prone to the yeastie beasties. If you're really not comfortable naked, maybe you could bring a larger towel from home to wear around as a bit of a compromise.

I'm at a gym where there's the whole nine yards, women even blow dry their hair naked. Personally, I'm not overly comfortable naked so I bring a towel. If you're comfy, why not? If you're too worried see what others are doing and follow that.

Do what makes you comfortable. There aren't any hard and fast rules where I go, and I suspect the same is true most places.

I agree with everyone else. I think it is your comfort level. They do sell robe towels (although a Google doesn't show what I mean) which are nice, but you'd still be naked when you get dressed. Or you could bring your own towel to cover up when you walk to your locker.
I've never had that problem because the only time I was ever in a locker room was in junior high and we didn't have a choice but to be naked in front of everyone else.

Yep, it's all you. At my school, we have communal showers on one side of the shower room and cubicled showers on the other. Personally, once I've showered, I walk around naked quite a bit. Usually I sauna naked before showering. I also weigh myself naked while there. And I'm not the only one

Hey gals - one of our brethren wanted you to know the following:

I read this thread when it first started a day or two ago, and then last night i was talking to a friend of mine who works at the gym I go to, and I remembered this thread...

They just did a complete remodel on the locker rooms, and she told me that when they polled the women before doing it, they overwhelmingly preferred to have individual shower stalls (also with the little in-between room for undressing or dressing without still standing in the shower stall). She said everyone she talks to really prefers the individual privacy of the showers, but she's noticed that MORE women walk around naked now. She said it was so noticeable a change that she had to ask some friends who went there why it was, and they pretty much all said the same thing- not having to shower in a communal setting made them feel more compfortable and at-ease, and they would then more readily walk around to and from (and wherever else) naked.

I found this immensely interesting, I think the ladies in the lounge will, too.

Flip flops. That's the only thing you really need to wear in a locker room.

I know this thread is a few days old, but here's my two cents.

I also prefer some air drying before getting dressed, for the same reasons Lurkette mentioned. However, I am uncomfortable walking around naked in the locker room. I bought a bath sheet to take to the gym with me. I dry off with it, but it's big enough that it's not too damp when I'm done. I wrap that around myself, and I'm usually good.

There are women in my gym who walk around in their undies, but I haven't seen anyone walking around naked. Naked in parts while changing, but never totally naked and walking around.
