A question...

Something happened at work today that made me wonder...

A man, in obvious discomfort, had to ask me where the feminine hygiene products were. Since he's obviously not buying them for himself, that means he's considerate/brave/secure enough to be buying them for a wife/girlfriend/daughter. He was embarrassed, so I guess it bothered him. Ladies, would your guy do this for you? Is it even a big deal?

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal...I've bought condoms plenty of times and it didn't bother me at all, and I don't see that as being more embarrassing as tampons.

Sultana 09-16-2005 04:49 PM

My guy would totally do this for me (and has). He will ask if there are other things I need picked up so that's not the only thing he's getting (that, and my unfortunate tendancy to remember some other vital item once home).

I don't ask him to do it very often, but I don't think it bothers him. He'll often return with a bit of chocolate as well, lol!

onodrim 09-16-2005 04:50 PM

I've been with Secret at a store when I've bought them and he's gone to get them for me when I can't, so in my experience it's not a big deal at all. I can imagine there are men who are uncomfortable with it, but the have no reason to be! :)

*Nikki* 09-16-2005 04:55 PM

It's not like someone is going to think the guy is using them or something. It is quite odvious he is picking them up for someone, so I don't see why it would be an issue.

ShaniFaye 09-16-2005 05:02 PM

Dave has no problem with it

shesus 09-16-2005 05:26 PM

I have been with guys who wouldn't even go in the store with me when I was buying anything feminine, but that was when I was a teenager. JJ would do it although I rarely ask him to. I don't think it's a big deal, I can think of more embarrassing things to buy such as certain types of medicine.

eMOTIONal20 09-16-2005 11:34 PM

I don't think my SO would have a problem with doing it, but I don't think I'd want him to...

Such things are pretty important to me, and if he didn't get exactly what I use, then... I'd be a little irritated. I like my tampons unscented and my pads with wings. If I didn't get them that way... then there's going to be a problem for at least ten minutes. :hmm:

I have bought condoms a couple of times, but I usually go through the self-checkouts when I do.

ophelia783 09-17-2005 12:21 AM

I have no idea if majik would buy tampons/pads for me, but I'd think he would, especially since he doesn't embarass easily....you'd have to ask him!

greeneyes 09-17-2005 06:22 AM

I don't think L would have problems with it... but I would only send him in dire emergency. Like eMOTIONal20 I am very persnickety about what I use and abide by the adage of "if you want something done, do it yourself."

ngdawg 09-17-2005 07:04 AM

He always gets them for me because I tend to need them on an 'emergency basis'.
Years ago, a friend's wife sent him to the store for pads. He went up to the counter with the box and announced: 'We're having a party and the wife said get napkins.' :D
So, now that's the running joke here.

SiN 09-17-2005 07:16 AM

/me agrees with greeneyes :)

bad jane 09-18-2005 08:10 AM

i'm pretty sure my bf would do it. my ex did it many times.

snowy 09-18-2005 09:41 PM

I know E. would do it for me if I asked him to, and probably have little to no problem doing so! He's pretty comfortable with himself like that. Thank goodness!

   That one had me laughing pretty hard. :)

As for ktspktsp, yeah, I have no doubt he'd do that for me. :icare: I've bought condoms, absolutely no big deal. He's totally fine buying lube and whatnot, and we go shopping at sex shops together all the time, so I think we're really just comfy with that kind of thing.

Not to mention the clerk is there to ring things up, not to look askance at customers. Anytime I start to feel even a little nervous about this kind of thing I remind myself that the clerk rings up hundreds of people a day and probably doesn't give a rat's ass about who buys what. They probably don't even notice what gender the customer is...

Sorry about the threadjack, but is there such a thing as scented tampons?

raeanna74 09-19-2005 01:31 PM

Yup scented tampons are out there. Last time I had some was only when I bought the scented by accident. Not wanting to waste time going back and returning THOSE I used them. Got the yeasties within a week. The chemicals are just not nice to sensitive parts.

As for will hubby go get them?? I think I recall him doing it once soon after we were married. Unfortunately he finds it difficult to find the exact item if it's medication or feminine products because he just doesn't know what to look for - so consequently I don't ask often if ever. I keep some on hand at all times anyway. He is sweet enough he would be my hero and fetch them if necessary but he'd be dying the whole while. He did/would do the same as other's mentioned and get a few other items as well just for camophlage.

My brother on the other hand has asked ME to fetch condoms for him because he was too embarrassed to get them even if he was getting other things too.

Yes, there is such a thing.

They can also be labeled "deoderant" by some brands like Playtex.

Tampax has "unscented" and "fresh scent."

I've read how the scented ones are simply unneeded, can cause infection, and are often made of synthetic or petroleum based chemicals... so it's just easier to steer clear of them.

They have scented pads as well, and I stay away from those. It's not like anyone goes down there sniffing while I'm on my period anyway.... :hmm:

superredhead 09-19-2005 02:59 PM

its funny, my boyfriend knows the exact type and kind. he's a pretty secure guy and really doesn't have a problem with the "feminine" side of things.

genuinegirly 09-19-2005 07:45 PM

That guy sounds like a cute example of a clueless guy. I don't think Turbotom would have any problems picking them up for me, but I have never asked.

diddagirl 09-19-2005 09:42 PM

I would hope something like that wouldnt be a big deal. I used to work at a drug store and quite often guys were buying tampons for their ladies.
Every so often a guy would come in looking for yeast infection meds and THAT was understandably painful for a guy to do. One guy was literally almost in tears as he requested my assistance finding what his girl needed. I think I would personally draw the line at tampons....

sillygirl 09-20-2005 09:02 AM

I know my hunny would, but I'm also very picky about what I get, and I'd probably be upset if he got the wrong thing (not that it's a huge deal, but ya know :) ). When I get infections he's always offering to go get me whatever it is that I need, but while I appreciate the offer, I usually would rather get it myself.

sexymama 09-20-2005 06:23 PM

Absolutely Lebell would get them for me. Not only that, my teenage sons had no problem running to the store for me when I needed them. I think it is all in how we approach it. I'm not embarassed, so why should they be?

hunnychile 09-21-2005 07:07 PM

My guy absolutely would, and has - but only once in a long long time. He came back with 4 different kind because he wasn't really sure which ones I wanted/needed and so he kindly gave me a 4 way sampling! He aims to please!

I usually try to be prepared in advance, cuz even I hate buying those...I'm sorta shy, I guess.

little_tippler 09-22-2005 05:08 AM

yup no problem here, he's done it for me before.

Blonddie 10-01-2005 05:05 AM

My hubby has done it many times. so its no problem for him.
